Additional Note:
Lots of questions asked and I will try and summarise here instead of responding to every comment. This game is average on any other console, but thanks to the Switch getting exclusive access to Fox Mcloud and his Arwing, this game becomes a trip down memory lane for any Star Fox fan and for that reason only I recommend picking it up, especially for this price. I don't care for 'toys' or having a mounting bracket on a controller as I play mainly in portable mode so this is the cheapest way to do just that.

The only DLC pack I recommend purchasing is the Star Fox Team Pilot Pack which increases the roster of playable characters with Slippy, Falco and "DO A BARREL ROLL!" Peppy, but this DLC pack is not included in any bundle and has never been on sale.

Star Fox Team Pilot Pack $17.95

This is actually the one with all of the DLC afaik

    https://ec.nintendo.com/AU/en/bundles/70070000003541

With the Deluxe edition, get all the pilots, starships and weapons available at launch! Combining these modular toys in combat will help you adapt to challenges as you save Atlas.

The Deluxe edition includes the digital version of:
    * Starlink Game
    * 6 Starships: Arwing, Zenith, Neptune, Apex, Lance, Nadir
    * 10 Pilots: Fox McCloud, Mason, Judge, Chase, Hunter, Shaid, Levi, Razor, Eli, Kharl
    * 15 Weapons: Flamethrower, Frost Barrage, Shredder, Levitator, Volcano, Imploder, Nullifier, Iron Fist, Alt. Freeze Ray, Crusher, Super Gatling, Shockwave, Alt. Gauss, Hailstorm, Alt. Meteor

The one you linked to is standard edition but has some extra ships added to it now apparently.

    • +1

No, the original link is correct; Deluxe Edition Bundle you have linked includes 12 DLC packs whereas the Standard Edition Bundle comes with 8 DLC packs.

      • Yep, just noticed that. They've changed the standard pack since launch I think. I'm sure it originally had a lot less.

        • +2

I think they are getting desperate.

I would recommend getting the Standard Edition Bundle at this new all-time low price than paying the extra $15 for four additional DLC packs.

Remember, as it is the Switch version of the game you get Fox Mcloud and the Arwing included with the base game, and most people who play the Switch version never change their ship or character from Fox.

          • @hey aj: I've already finished the game, I got it for $25 for retail edition.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Same here, but I got the digital version from a previous sale as the toys/clutter didn't interest me at all.

              • @hey aj: Did you guys get the 8 DLC's when you bought it for $25?

                • +1

@enwar: No, I bought the digital Standard Edition Bundle as posted here but back when it was on sale for $37.18.

I did not want to have to deal with the Ships and pilots and the mount that goes on the controller as I play more portable than docked and did not need all the "toys" sitting around.

As I said in the previous post, you get Fox Mcloud and the Arwing as part of the Switch version of the game, when I played through Starlink I never ended up switching from this combination as it was the most fun and engaging in my opinion.

That is why I recommend just grabbing the cheapest version of the digital game which is the bundle I have posted as all the DLC is not really used from what a lot of reviewers and myself have found. If you want the toys and the mounting bracket and having to swap toys out in order to swap in-game and you play mainly docked than you can get the physical version cheaper minus the DLC.

                  • @hey aj: But the DLC are digital items?

                    • @enwar: Correct, this bundle is entirely digital so you will be able to swap ships, weapons, and characters through the in-game menu.

                      • @hey aj: Alright you convinced me. Locking in the standard edition. Thanks mate :)

    • You're right - Deluxe has all content - and that's on sale too. Great price, just ordered it.

      • I would save your money and grab the Standard Edition Bundle as the cheapest digital copy of the game to date and then grab the Star Fox Team Pilot Pack for $17.95.

That way you get the cheapest full Star Fox experience without having to lug around the 'toys' and the mounting bracket.

I'm a bit of a sucker… wanted this since it came out but didn't get it.

I bought the deluxe version (~$45), the content pack 2 (~$30 also on sale), and the Starfox pack ($18) - means I've got the whole game, with all extras for ~$85 once you take out some Nintendo points I had sitting there from buying other games.

Cheapest I've ever come out of a toys-to-life game!

    • I should have got the deluxe version. I really want to play around with some of the other weapons now but can't get them on the discount now.

  • I bought the physical Bundle for $30 that came with the Arwing ship and Fox Pilot.
Crazy that physical items are the same price as a physical copy

This one comes with multiple dlc

      • Ah yes fair, different bundles

  • Tossing up between Standard and Deluxe. Will I miss out on much if I get standard?

Edit: Decided on Standard edition. See hey aj's comment for good explanation why.

  • Are the Star Fox team i.e. pilots and ships (if its such a thing?) on sale?

    • The latest DLC exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version of the game, which was launched in parallel with the free update Crimson moon, has the whole Star Fox team.

      Star Fox Team Pilot Pack:

Add the rest of the Star Fox crew to your team with Falco, Peppy, and Slippy.

Falco is a hotshot flyboy who launches explosive Smart Bombs to blast away the enemy
Peppy is the grizzled veteran who glances off attacks with his defensive maneuvers
Slippy is the plucky inventor whose viral attack creates mayhem on the battlefield

This is not on sale and has never been discounted on the Nintendo eStore to my knowledge. But you can fly as the entire team if you purchase the DLC which I recommend as the only DLC pack worth purchasing.

      • So the Starfox team pack isn't included in Standard or Deluxe?

        • That is correct, the DLC pack that includes the rest of the Star Fox team (Peppy, Falco, and Slippy) is not included in any Bundles and has never been on sale.

Basically what I have been trying to say in all the comments is that I don't care at all about the bundle's or the DLC included in them, you do not end up using any of it. All that matters is that you get Fox Mcloud and his Arwing in the switch version and by going digital you don't have to carry his Arwing toy mounted on your controller. This is the cheapest price ever to be able to do just that.

And to further increase the Star Fox nostalgia, the only DLC pack I would recommend buying is the Star Fox Team Pilot Pack which adds the other Star Fox characters to your roster. That DLC pack and the base game in digital form is all I need. Unfortunately, they only sell the digital game as a bundle but it's still the cheapest way to obtain it.

          • @hey aj: Thanks a lot mate. Just one more question, do you know how much they are selling the Starfox Team Pilot Pack for?

          • +1

@hey aj: Just a correction, you do not need to always carry around with you the toy attached to the controller to play as him. I put it on the first time I played it to load the data, and then it's been kept on my shelf ever since.

I agree with your other points though

  • Is it worth buying? Might have to dust off my switch.

  • Tempting, last space combat game I played was Wing Commander 3 which had a lot of playtime.

Game enjoyable without all the gimmicks?

    • That is a tough one as the Wing Commander series was incredible at the time and helped shape the genre and all the spinoffs that came after it.

As best as I can say, this is not like Wing Commander, this is more like Starfox 64 with nicer looking graphics. You can fly in the first-person view to get the feel of a Wing Commander or X-Wing vs TIE Fighter game but Starlink is not strictly space combat and instead focuses on flying around planets with space elements.

As far as the game is concerned, Fox Mcloud makes the game in my opinion and I would not have bought this game on any other platform. So I guess that means I reckon the game is average at best, but on the Switch, it becomes a great nostalgia trip from the Starfox games.

  • It’s a good game, especially for the price it is now. They kind of missed the boat on this one, a Switch Exclusive Starfox marketed none toys to life version from the start would have been a far easier sell.

  • You don't need to mount squat to your console really. Mounting registers the item for a week. Once registered there's no need to connect it until the week is up. A week is enough to finish the game if playing quite a bit.

  • Great price.
    Bought.
    Thanks OP.
