  • Which bat does Steve Smith use?

    • Anything bar Kassina………

Actual answer? He most likely has his bats made by FC Sondhi's (company that New Balance outsources the manufacturing of their cricket gear to) professional bat makers using their best (lowest density) willow. Closest the average punter could get is one of the New Balance Players Edition bats. But he could also have them made by a range of bat makers and sticker them up as New Balance bats like many pros do.

My guess for the makers of these bats based on their pictures is RNS Larsons or SF, who are decent bat makers in their own right. Although the gloves featured in this deal are definitely FC Sondhi made and would be very similar, if not identical, to those that Steve Smith uses.

I think Steve Smith gets bats made by B3 (Ex Gunn and Moore head bat maker). He was at their factory last week.

        • (Ex Gunn and Moore head bat maker)

Oooo… That's what I used to use… Can definitely see the similarity in our batting styles… (not)

        • Possibly. B3 used to make both the retail and professional New Balance bats when they first entered into cricket but haven't for a few years now. In fact you can still get Aaron Finch and Joe Root replicas from them.

I'd probably be more inclined chalk that up to him needing some new bats whilst in the UK, New Balance still having some sort of business partnership with B3 for their UK pros, and the inconvenience of waiting for bats to be made and then shipped over from India.

Might be a little disingenuous portraying B3 as "Ex Gunn and Moore head bat maker" seeing as David and Russell have both left B3 now.

          • @hankbiggums: Geez, "disingenuous" is a tough choice of words, even though my statement was 100% factual. You probably want to check your wording on Russell leaving….he died.

            • @dmorg78: Just making sure no one less informed would be under the impression that their B3 bat would be made by "ex Gunn and Moore head bat maker".

I didn't really think it was my place to go around broadcasting that information to everyone and tried to come up with a tactful way of getting the point across. But accusing each other of being pedantic is pointless.

    • More importantly, which brand of helmet did he use?

      • which brand of helmet did he use?

Is there a brand that protects your neck ?

  • Hard to buy a bat of unknown brand with out feel and seeing it.
