Fantastic way to get across to Auckland, New Zealand - through Emirates airlines. (Note: Flights are on Qantas as a codeshare)

  • Emirates don't fly from Sydney to Auckland anymore. Those flights will be on Qantas planes.

    • yeah had put that as a comment, but updated to clarify

Thi is a terrible deal, last week i bought Air NZ return to AKL for $299

    • Do AirNZ still charge extra for food, luggage and entertainment though?

      • True, but last few times to NZ qantas had no IFE system on 737 and sometimes food is a packet of rice crackers. So for a 2.5-3 hour flight you can eat before you board. Luggage is $20 extra.

Could have gotten cheaper than $299 also, it was $299 for australia day dates.

        • All Qantas 737s either have seatback IFE (group 2) or QStreaming/Wifi Entertainment (group 1).

          • @beatthatflight: True but you need to bring your own device. Have flown to NZ with Qstreaming and no iPads supplied.

            • @UberIsCool: Yikes, that's not meant to happen! (I used to work with the Entertainment team). Flight crew wouldn't have been happy either…

  • Wow.. it’s cheaper than flying from Brisbane to melbourne on Qantas!!

  • Flying on Qantas? Never….horrible crew.

  • We recently flew to Wellington (could have gone to Auckland) with AirNZ for $599 return for two to Sydney, with carry-on luggage only (and they allowed a cabin wheelie case plus a day back, which I suspect may have been slightly over the 7kg allowance but no-one cared). It would have been extra $80 for checked luggage (23kg) for both of us - total = $679. So QF is still higher at $704, where checked luggage is not optional but auto included.

As UberIsCool said - for such a short flight do you really need the extras that QF include in the ticket price?

Oh and the real stinger - it cost us $450 for two one-way to go from Sydney to Canberra (I know - who wants to go to Canberra anyway?!?) with Emirates/QF after getting back from Wellington … and that was a Red e-Deal price! International deals such as what QF and AirNZ, etc offer only highlight how expensive it it so fly internally in Aust.
