    • I found Tcp faster then UDP on Nord openVPN.

    • UDP is better for downloading TCP is more stable but a bit slower

    • Yes your router will only been seen as one device. I couldn't get usable speeds setting up openvpn in my Asus router (both stock and Merlin firmware) . Hope you have better luck

      • seems like openVPN is reducing my speeds quite significantly,

maybe 10-15% reduction via the client app on a 100/40 connection.
via openVPN router, my speed drops to 15/10mbps

  • They keep practically giving it away. Why do you think that is?

What are the coupon codes for? I get $107.55 as the price and the coupons don't seem to change it. Do you have to apply a coupon for shopback to work?

  • Looks like a decent deal so long as the Shopback system works. Was somewhat of a total pain in the bum to get my bank to fix my Verified by Visa but it got sorted eventually. I would have preferred to use PayPal but oh well. Visa has a OTP (One time password) facility with this purchase which is neat.

Just received an email from ShopBack saying my payment credit is being processed. That’s pretty impressive seeing as though I just placed the payment 6 hours ago! Total charge on my credit card was $165.67 and the ShopBack is $132.33, so total cost is $33.34. I selected United States for location so it’s a little more than I was expecting but for around $10 AUD a year I’m happy.

I bought a subscription because Nordvpn actively promoted it working for Netflix. Despite multiple attempts and methods it's not possible to use on smart TV's. On a pc it was fine but that doesn't suit my needs and how it was promoted. It's a neg from me so others considering it for Netflix can be aware of potential problems.

    • That's because your TV is not connecting to Netflix via nordvpn, I don't think is reasonable to blame Nord for that.

      • That's because your TV is not connecting to Netflix via nordvpn, I don't think is reasonable to blame Nord for that

How did you jump to that conclusion?

        To quote myself

        Despite multiple attempts and methods

Tried smart DNS in TV, in router, via docker delugevpn. Also tried openvpn in my router but speed was unusable. This is just a few things I've tried.

So I've tried Nords suggested set up and no good. I've used my technical experience to try other methods without luck.

Instead of telling me I'm wrong, tell me how I'm wrong. Your presumptions are incorrect

        • -3

You didn't tell us what have you tried in the first place right? I can only make assumption that you might use Chromecast.

          • +3

            @BrianGriffin:

I can only make assumption that you might use Chromecast.

it's not possible to use on smart TV's

I said smart tv, you assumed chromecast. Sure I didn't say everything I tried in the 1st post but you didn't even read the information available. You just assumed I have no idea and I'm wrong. This is not the case at all.

I have tried all the connection methods listed with Nord. They should work. They don't, no matter the player Eg. Smart tv, Android TV box, chromecast

  • Does not work with 10play. Has anyone else managed to get it working?

    • Having issues with 9Now as well,

Setup OpenVPN earlier and tried a few other Australian servers but same geoblock. Ended up turning it off for now so the mrs could watch her show.

    • I'm connected to 10Play from Tassie to Melbourne and I am watching Judge Judy. I'm not sure if that helps you, but it certainly doesn't help me, I hate that show ! :D

  • So what serious business do we do that requires a vpn?

Your ISP keeps your metadata for 2 years and I'm not that interested on being spied on by my own government. I don't have anything to hide but that doesn't mean I don't shut the curtains at night

      • You use any smart assistants?

What you say has been personally listened to by real people. For training purposes of course…

Even by Apple who unlike MS and Google, claim to have your back on privacy.

Pretty certain you're being spied on irrespective of your efforts.

        • Maybe I'm just apathetic but I enjoy the functionality of my smart assistants. I accept that Google is taking my data and using it to sell me ads, train their voice models, etc.
It's a bit different to 80+ government agencies who have requested access to ISP metadata. It probably won't be too long before it's warrantless…

          • @unelectric: They're not just using your data to sell you ads. That would be an automated process. A real person will listen in to what you say, in order to improve their voice recognition and accent training. They don't take a personal interest in you, but it's still going through real people.

It's a bit different to 80+ government agencies who have requested access to ISP metadata.

Just remember, the US can and does demand Google to hand over data to them, or build in backdoors for the government. The very thing they accuse China of doing with Huawei. In times of war, you bet the US govt will take data from the Chinese. An executive order from the President during a state of emergency gives him almost limitless power.

Google is actually worried about Trump's order for US companies to stop supplying to Huawei. When you decouple Google from Chinese phones and deny them Android and they use their own OS, the US govt will no longer be able to use Google to spy on Chinese phones.

I found that the Aus ISPs throttle a lot of the downloading, I'm not talking P2P but just downloading from cloud drives like Box/G Drive/Dropbox etc.

Downloading was 5x faster, and upload around 3x via VPN.

  • Still waiting for my confirmation email :(

Just bought it, moving over from purevpn (software too janky and their p2p servers are not the quickest).

Without nordvpn a speedtest gives me 104mbps.

With nordvpn to an australiaserver it gives me 101mbps.

    Pretty happy with that.

However once i started downloading torrents, each seem to max out around 2 MB/s which is not 'slow' but a lot slower than without a vpn.

That being said i can have multiple torrents running each at 2 MB/s.. but still, very odd behaviour, its like theyre limiting P2P speeds…

Edit: I take that all back. I was connected to a server in the Gold coast, disconnected and reconnected (this time clicking P2P) and got a server in my city (Perth) and now speeds are much better 3-5MB/s

Edit2: Got 110 on a speedtest.net….. never seen a number that high before. Might be a fluke, but nord seems pretty good so far. As long as the cashback tracks….

    1. Anyone tried NordVPN for chrome? I tried that and just click quick connect, it connect to an Australia server; And when I run speedtest, it basically hit the maximum speed of my NBN connection. I wonder should I just leave it on all the time then?

    2. Also wonder how safe it is for the chrome VPN extension vs VPN client, is it really VPN on chrome only or it's just a proxy?

    3. Is it even useful to have VPN but point to Australia server? The speed is good, site such as google that rely on your location is still working fine, but wondering does it give me any protection from say… torrent?

  • I got this when it was 60% cashback. dam

  • Cashback aside, I’m after a VPN that will let me access the US streaming content from Netflix etc.. Can I have some recommendations?

    • I’ve just purchased 3 years from these guys and will test this vpn service. Before these guys I used Trust Zone. Not that many servers (about 200). I used them for 3 years and found them reliable and they have a dedicated US Netflix server that works. They also are having a special atm 2 years for around $105aud. If I don’t like this vpn service I’ll get my money back and go back to them. They are based in Seychelles (not a 5 eye country) and none of their servers keep logs.

Is shop back a scam waiting to happen? Can they really sustain a business model offering 86% cash back deal? Its only on a small number of comments that say they get the cash back. The deals look to good to be true. Just pretty cautious about it.

  • Good Luck on getting cashback from SHOPBACK.
I found them very unreliable. A $3000 Dell purchase when cashback was 12% is still pending and @help are not really helpful.

  • yeah i also havent gotten cashback from last nordvpn deal. cant really recommend people to go ahead at this stage.

  • stacking ??? didnt have to stack.

  • I got NordVPN from the last deal. Cannot watch Netflix with VPN on my Sony android TV and Netflix is detecting by VPN and don't allow to watch contents.
Would greatly appreciate if any one can guide me the work around. Thank !!

  • Does anyone know what the promo codes SHOPBACK or 3ynordvpn do? Nord's website accepts them but I can't see any change in the price

  • How do I stack coupon codes?

  • Just bought it, tried it at my Uni and the speeds are complete ass, went from like 90mb/s down with 125mb/s up to less than 0.5mb/s for both. Maybe VPNs are blocked on the Wifi, but if it's this bad at home, I'm refunding asap. Tried both on my laptop and my phone.

    • Nevermind, speed is perfectly fine at home, I guess my uni just blocks VPN usage.

  • I find recently I can't purchase from my ipad anymore as shopback and cashrewards doesn't track. While if I purchase through my PC, it tracks. So no idea why this is happening now as before it was fine.

  • Still waiting for my ShopBack refund. Have submitted the necessary details, but still nothing is showing, how long do you have to wait to see any movements?
