My first PC Build. What do you think?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to build my first PC.
Primarily will be used for photo editing (Photoshop/Lightroom), as well as light gaming as secondary.

Is there anyone out there that can tell me anywhere where I should upgrade/downgrade any parts?

CPU: AMD 3700x $510.00
Motherboard: Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus $341.00
GPU: GeForce GTX 1660 Ti WINDFORCE OC 6G $460.00
Memory: G.Skill Sniper X 32GB (2x 16GB) DDR4 3600Mhz $276.00
Storage: ADATA SX8200 Pro 1TB M.2 NVME $225.00
Case: Meshify C $149.00
Power Supply: SeaSonic 650W Focus Gold Semi Modular(SSR-650FM) $129.00
TOTAL: $2,170.00

SSD smaller than OP's, ram a bit slower, but GPU much better

      • This is actually a good deal, but I'd really like a say in what Motherboard and M.2 SSD I get :(

  • GPU: GeForce GTX 1660 Ti WINDFORCE OC 6G $460.00

From everything I've seen lately, it's RTX or nothing for GPUs. Why the 1660?

    • I don't really know much about GPUs. I just did a lot of research for a reasonably cheap one with good value benchmarks.

  • For the intended purpose it seems fine. If you are gaming on a lower refresh rate 1080p monitor a 1660ti is fine.

Seems like your spending way too much money on motherboard and RAM speed, which does almost nothing for performance compared to buying a better CPU.

Until you have the highest CPU spending money on faster RAM/overclocking is a waste if you want performance. Same with higher end motherboards.

I see a lot of people preaching "balancing" things but it's rubbish, you want to concentrate your money on CPU.

    • What motherboard would you suggest?
I need two M.2 slots with WiFi. I chose the x570 to future proof with pcie 4.0.

      • pcie4.0 only good for raid nvme ssd

        • As I’m dealing with a lot of photo editing, fast Nvme ssd is one of my priorities

          • @jeolefmo: You won't see a difference with PCIe 4 when photo editing, it's simply not disk intensive enough.

      Ryzen loves fast ram.

      • would you prefer 1660Ti or RTX2080 ?

        • He said it is for photo editing primarily.

  • go 3600X, money saved go towards a RTX2060

    • ^ This

He's using it for photo editing mate, CPU > GPU

  • I like your build OP
I think it still will have 2 extra RAM slots, if you want to upgrade more down the track?
