I should stop looking at this site now I've bought my parts! Nothing good can come from seeing prices get ever lower..

  • $449 for an 3700x.. wow :) intel needs to lower prices

It appears shallothead has beat the price by $1 again.

    • But computer alliance gives you free game like gears 5?

      • Do you have a link to this promo?

  • Oh wow. I think I should wait a bit more longer then.

    thanks OP! got a 3600.
i should add my credit card hates you OP :(

    • I even have to lock mine up at night in case it wanna kill me in my sleep but I still love it LOL

  • Annoyingly tempting, but then I realise I still need to buy a motherboard, ram, storage, PSU and video card :P gets a bit pricey

I have a Meshify C sitting there waiting for components for my partners "budget" PC but cant decide on a GPU

She doesnt really game much so I thought a 3200G but I cant stop looking at the 3600. It seems the only budget GPU option that is worth it is buying used because the 1650 etc all seem worse than a used RX570 for price

I was in the same boat, so bought a Tomahawk Max, 3200 Mhz ram, this 3600 and looking at a 1660ti. The 15% off sale makes these prices about 12% cheaper than umart for me (some margins bigger).

For the CPU, 3600 is the best value for money. If you're on a tight budget, buy a decent B450 board and a used RX570 (~$150 around Melbourne). That should give you 1080p 60fps at high settings for most popular games and probably medium for AAA titles.

      • What are your thoughts on a second hand GPU that would be similar to a 1660ti? Couldn't find any available second hand anywhere really. I'm currently running a 970. Was looking at the 2060 but that is a bit out of the budget and would require an update on the PSU.

        • the cheapest 1660ti on ebay after discount at the moment is around $380 so to achieve value for money the only option would be a used RX 580. At around $400 mark nothing comes close to the 1660ti, it's pretty much the best bang for your buck at the price. A used 1070 perform around 10% less but not cheap enough to beat the 1660ti. Or if you add around $70 more to your budget then definitely go for the 5700 which is within 10% performance of the 2070 and beat the crap out of the 2060 Super.

@dlngu1709: The 5700 you speak of that the blower version yeah? Don't really want to go that route.

    • 3400g for $210 is a pretty good deal.

I just purchased a full rig from comp alliance with this 15% off they're the cheapest in au depending on the brand for most components right now.

    • Yeah i think the biggest thing is some of the prices at Comp Alliance are quite a lot more than Umart and the likes.

I'm wondering if its worth just buying the products that are on par in price for a discount and then grabbing whatever is cheaper from Umart at a later date. As much as I do worry about buying in pieces over a period of time

Would end up with the following

      CPU - Comp Alliance - Ryzen 3600 - $275
      M/Board - Comp All - B450 Tomahawk Max - $177
      RAM - Umart - 3200hz 16GB G skill - $140 (sold out)
      PSU - Umart - Seasonic 550W - $118
      SSD - Umart - ADATA SX8200 - $115
      GPU - Umart - ROG Strix RX580 - $319

      Total $1144

Is the ADATA overkill for an SSD? Would i be fine saving 20 bucks and throwing in a Crucial P1? And as much as I read 3200 is the min RAM for Ryzen how much is this really the case? Could i slap something cheaper and slower in without really noticing it?

But yes might have to see what I can get in the used market for a RX570 - I've got a GTX680 lying around, but its a bit old I think :P

      • The discount makes GPU's a lot cheaper.

        • This is true. A 1060 6GB goes down to 296 which seems alright.

      • if you're considering the Crucial P1 then go for the Intel 660p, same price, better performance

    • Thanks everyone for your help. I got my order in, convinced my partner to go for a brand new 1660ti along with all the rest. Grabbed some RGB Ram for 150 so 10 bucks more for a little light. It's not on the QVL list but whatever, I'll give it a crack.
Only issue now is…..her PC is 1000 times better than mine now.

      • Great decision! Massive improvement over the original RX580 and 1060 you were looking at. Which 1660TI did you get?

        • I basically went with the cheapest available and got the basic Gigabyte OC model for under 400 after discount.

I looked at the more expensive models with the Rgb and stuff but the price was getting to a point where I'd almost start looking at a 5700 or 2060.

  • hmmmz still looking for the Ryzen 9 3900x… Seems to be a shortage on these CPUs… wonder how much the 3950x will cost when it gets released here in Australia.

  • Looking for a CPU for workstation with light gaming, is the RX570 the best value?

Thanks OP, I bought the 3600 for $275 and used PEACHY15 with another store to snag an MSI B450M MORTAR MAX motherboard for $143 delivered. Combined with the $115 Crucial Ballistix 3200Mhz RAM I got a couple of weeks ago, I get a huge upgrade for under $550.
