Childcare Subsidy Withholdings Refund - Did You Get It Yet?

Just wondering if anyone got the 5% childcare subsidy withholdings refund from Centrelink for the 2018-19 financial year?

I have lodged my tax return 4 wees ago but so far got no update from Centrelink. So I called them yesterday, and finally after 90 minutes of wait time, managed to speak to a consultant who was not able to help much and just repeated info from this page.

You mean the page with this written pretty prominent up top?

We’re now balancing Child Care Subsidy for 2018-19 but you won’t get your outcome straightaway. There’s no need to worry or call us to check its progress. We’ll send you a letter once yours has been balanced.

Balancing your subsidy won’t happen straightaway. It may take some time. You don’t need to call us to check its progress.

yes I waited few weeks due to this message but knowing Centrelink I don't trust them enough to not mess up so I want to know if anyone else got it. If everyone else is in the same boat then all good but if others have already got the refund then I will need to chase them up manually

      • I waited few weeks

        Lol.

        First time dealing with Centrelink?

    I haven't heard anything. I think I should call centrelink and check….

Maybe call them again to check?

We haven't got anything either…I can't be bothered calling and waiting that long to be honest. I am declaring less income this year so they chase me rather than me doing it. Keeping some money aside (in offset account) to get interest benefit and will pay them in installments.

    • that's a smart strategy. Looks like no one has gotten anything yet so we just need to wait and see. The worse part is that they have not committed to any deadline so we can be waiting for months

Their game is to hold on to our money and make it difficult for us to contact them or get an answer. Let's do the same.

All govt depts are a pain to contact, and when you finally do get through, never get an answer. The calculations of child care subsidy also appears to be a sham…e.g. I tried changing our salaries in the range of 80,000 annually to 300,000 (me and partner), the subsidy didn't change at all.

        • I tried changing our salaries in the range of 80,000 annually to 300,000 (me and partner), the subsidy didn't change at all.

You were so close :p $353k (combined income) is when you stop getting any subsidy.

          • @[Deactivated]: But shouldn't the % drop some bit at 300K? I mean, I posted income from 80000 and then 130K and then kept updating by 50K odd. % didnt change a bit.

            • @RM: It does for us. $330k-ish was 20%

  • I read somewhere that they wont start processing this until 28 days after you have received your notice of assessment from the ATO for both partners. Note that this isnt when your claim is lodged.

  • Yes, your tax returns must be finalised so they can work out the actuals, not from estimates

  • Haven't received mine too. Tax return lodged for about 3 weeks now.

  • I did my tax 5 weeks ago and still no refund. If you go on mygov - Centrelink it shows you the status. Mine says we have all the info we need to complete the re-balance. That's great but where is my refund….

    • Out of interest, where do you see the status of it? I understand we don't need to do anything to initiate it - it's done automatically based on your tax and your submission at the start of the financial year. Does that sound correct?

You need to access MyGov then click on centrelink. Once in centrelink they was a rebalance status in one of the many options and i found it there.

  • 4 wees ago isn't all that long, unless you can hold it longer than average!

  • Just checked. Received my NoA on the 30th July (lodged 17th July) and am yet to hear anything. Just an FYI to see if it compares to your timeline.

  • Feedback from the centrelink facebook group ("Family Update" it is called) mentions that someone heard on the phone that they should be in the last week of September. Provided you have received your NoA, plus another month for the info to go to Centrelink, then another few weeks for Centrelink to process the payments.

  • I did my Tax return on 1st July and it got processed 16th July.
FTB got processed on 28th July. But Subsidy is still showing as Balancing in Centrelink App.

    • Well you should be the first one to get it but I dont think they have figured out this whole process yet
