[Pre Order, XB1, PS4, PC] Borderlands 3 for $29 When You Trade 2x Eligible Games @ EB Games

60

Just noticed this on the EB Games web site, applies to standard edition only. The web page has an image which says you need to order online with click & collect, then bring 2 eligible PS 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch games when you pick up your preorder. I can't find the list of eligible games on their site, it only says "T&Cs Apply. See instore For Details". I'll see if I can track down a copy of it somewhere and post it here.

Edit: I confirmed in-store today there isn’t a list, they’ll take any game for the above platforms as long as they trade $10 or more each. You just have to ask for a value when you get there.

  • If it's like NBA 2k it could be games with a trade in value over $10, which later in a console life-cycle is harder to find as much value in.

They do this rip off for virtually every game

What value do you place on your time to sell for more via other channels

Would not mind but was in EB today and Days Gone Preowned was more than new..which was still more than JB

    • Yeah, I wasn't expecting it to be a ripper deal, just thought I'd throw it up on OB in case someone is actually able to take advantage of it.

      • I think I can take advantage of it (depending on which games are eligible). Thanks OP.

I don't think I'd do this for many other games, other than Borderlands.

    • Do you mean they accept trade in of 2 eligible games for most game preorders, lowering the price to $29?

Is it EB Games policy, or is it more informal, with trade in games and preorders being considered on a case by case basis by the store manager?

      I've never heard of it.

Ps. I know the trade in value of games is terribly low at EB Games, so this might be a better way for me to get better value for my used games.

I'd be interested to know what games are "Eligible"

    • +1

Any game that has a trade value of over $10 each. It's been the same for past promos.

  • Generally i find EB Games trade in values are really poor. I find its better to just go to JBHIFI and trade in as they give much higher credits and pay the difference.
Often ive walked in with 2 x 12-18 month old games and paid like $25 for a new title.

    • I had no idea JB HiFi accepted trade ins, thanks for that.

I feel like I've been living under a rock lately, trying to change over from disc based games to digital downloads (just so I can take my console anywhere without taking all my games, or even just to game share).

Just wanted youse guys to know that if you bought Detroit: Become Human physical, it is trading in for $30@EB.

Bought it for $29 on Amazon during Black Friday and since it became a PS Plus item, just had no reason to keep it. Profit $1 and kept as credit. Haven't found another trade-in of $10 value that I would offload yet.

The games eligible for this trade in will constantly change depending on demand and their stock. If a store has 10 copies of Fifa 19 traded in an an hour the trade in value will drop dramatically. Unfortunately the only way to know the exact trade value would be to contact them and even then it could change within an hour or 2. Personally I wouldn't bother with deals because you could probably trade the same games at JB and get the game cheaper anyway.

    • That makes sense, thanks.

I guess this could be the reason the list of 'eligible' games can't be found - it probably varies on a case by case basis.

  • Can you still return a new game within a week for a full refund?

About ten years ago a coworker said he would buy a new release, finish it, and return for a full refund or free swap for another new release.

    • Yes.

      • Thanks.

    • yep, I would do the same during my teen years.

Ha ha, the guy just turned 40 about 10 years ago, when I worked with him.

He's still probably doing it though lol

My bro in law does it, it's pathetic tbh.

@[Deactivated]: I thought it was too much trouble myself, but it's how some people make the most of their money, especially considering the high price of games in Australia.

            • -3

@BooYa: Yeah but he's so friggin wasteful in every way. The guy drinks Grey Goose FFS.

              • @[Deactivated]: Wasteful? If anything he's saving more plastic being used.

I don't know what you mean by wasteful tbh, petrol?

                • -1

@BooYa: Wasteful in other ways in his life but prudent with video games from EB is what I mean. The dude wastes money on extravagent shit and then uses EB as a rental service.

                  • @[Deactivated]: How do you know what he does with his money?

It's legal and within EB Games t&cs afaik.

I think the only person who'd be so negative towards what he does would be an EB Games franchisee.

But that's just my two cents worth, you're certainly entitled to your own opinion (I just wouldn't assume as much as you did).

                    • +2

@BooYa: How do I know what he does? I know the guy well, he's worked for me for a decade. I don't go buying Gucci belts for $700 even though I can afford to comfortably but he does, he updates to the latest iPhone every year for no reason other than vanity, I could go on. I'm nothing to do with EB either. What a silly thing to say.

                      • +1

@[Deactivated]: Oh you're talking about your brother in law?

I thought you meant my friend from 10 years ago lol.

                        Ok nvm then

                          @BooYa: Hilarious thread..

                          • @Magpye: Confusing as you mean :p

Just keep in mind the game is $68 at Amazon right now and I assume will be similarly priced at a few other retailers at release. At $31 less than the EB Price, make sure you aren't selling yourself short by chasing the EB deal. If you have two games to offload you may be better off using Gumtree or whatever and then buying from Amazon. That's of course going to be more effort, but at 30% lower price at Amazon there's a larger price gap here than in some other cases, and the EB deal still puts you $29 out of pocket which is almost half the Amazon price.

Edit: JB has the same price. If you do want to go to EB either way there's probably many titles that are better off just being traded in for straight credit and then doing a price match with JB at $68. For example if both titles you are trading in would net you $30, just do that on its own and then pricematch JB at $68 to be $8 out of pocket rather than put the games into this deal and still need to cover the final $29 in cash. Check the trade in value before going ahead.

      $68 AUS ?

That doesn't bode well for the quality of the game, it's as if the developers or distributors didn't think the game is worth the standard $100 or so for new titles.

      Thanks for the tip though

      • +4

$68 for a brand new release isn't that uncommon. I'm partially inclined to think the RRP/EB are just $10 higher than they should be for the base edition. The game does seem to have a bit of support behind it so I do hope it is successful. EB's even doing a midnight launch for it which they certainly don't do for just any release.

I'm looking forward to it but preordered from Amazon yesterday while Cashrewards had the extra 10% cashback offer running storewide to make the title effectively just over $61.

A lot of disc-based new releases retail for that much nowadays, as well as on Amazon AU. Even RDR2 was $62 on Amazon on its release date. Digital format is where the ripoffs now lie, lingering at $100 for months after release.

        • +1

Damn, I've switched to digital only for the convenience, but you're right, prices there are ridiculously high for ages.

Luckily I'm not so much into new releases (i can play a game for months) and I still have probably 100+ games I bought (or got free with gold) but haven't played yet.

But it's good to hear this game is getting a proper release, and I hope they haven't changed the formula from Borderlands 2 too much, as many AAA titles do lately.

The multiplayer on this should be unreal, I just hope we get Aussie servers.

This is actually good deal if you have games that bought at a low price.

Last time, there was the same promotion in EB for Division 2. Two games + $29 / Division 2 washington edition.

I brought two games which I bought at $9 each in Ammazon. South park and dishonored 2. They accepted them.

This time would be the same. Bring some games that you bought at low price and you already finished.

  • usually they need $10 minimum trade credit, however sometimes you can find clearance deals and buy 2x games for $20 that qualify and get the game for under $50 through trade in deal.

example would be division 2 other day for xb1 was $10 at amazon, that definitely qualifiers for trade in deal.

  • Yep. As long as the games are 10$ minimum trade in, they'll accept them.
Call the store and ask what the trade in value of your games are.

I traded in ashes cricket (came with my ps4, never played it) + the last guardian.
Then traded in god of war (paid 30 for it) to cover the $29 cost (w/ lvl 2 eb card)

Sure I could have sold the three games for just over 70 if I tried on gumtree, but it wouldn't have been easy.

  • Does anyone know if this is still the $29 now the game is released?
