Been in the market for a 2-in-1 and found this.

Pretty good price for a newly released laptop and considering its a 10th gen Intel along with the other specs. Especially considering the "Black" version is currently $2999 with the only difference is a 4k screen and a 4 cell battery presumably because of the screen

10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-10510U Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.9 GHz)
Windows 10 Home (64 bit) English
NVIDIA® GeForce® MX250 with 2GB GDDR5 graphics memory
16GB 2x8GB DDR4 2666MHz
512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive
15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Truelife Touch Narrow Border WVA Display with Active Pen support

  • Sounds cool, but I wish it didn't have the keypad

    • In that case maybe you should be looking at Tablets or iPads instead of 2-in-1s

      • There are plenty of laptops that don't have keypads on their keyboards.

        • The 13" Black doesn't have a keypad, but more expensive at the moment.

Sorry MG, I misread your post - thought you meant keyboard, hence my comment which is therefore not relevant.
        Cheers

I didn't know there were 10th gen Intel CPUs let alone laptop variants released.. I thought the 9th Gens had only recently started appearing in laptops.

    • I think they were just announced last month. Only available for laptops at this time.

    • +2

9th gen is only for H series.

But Intel have been very liberal in one that call a 'gen'.

10th gen Comet lake is just a tweaked 8th gen whisky lake.

The specs on this look so good - is there a reason why it seems pretty unpopular on ozb? There's been really popular deals on the XPS for example with worse specs and higher price than this, just a bit lighter as far as I can tell

We use inspiron 7000's at work, they are good but feel cheap compared to an XPS.

I think traditionally there was a large gap in quality between the Inspiron and the XPS and felt cheap as martyn mentioned. I'm a big fan of the XPS which I am currently using. I was tempted to get the XPS 2-in-1, but in my budget I would've had to take a downgrade in specs.

There is a review of the 13" Black version here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlpGIKMQ4mg. They talk about the gap closing between the build quality of the Insipiron and the XPS so that swayed me. Hope they are right as I still love my XPS but will be selling it when I get the Inspiron!

        Thank you both

Darn it, I thought I just check what's on OzB before I go with my day, now looking at buying a new laptop.

if you collect QF points, get 3x points from Qantas for this as well : )

Bit the bullet, my eta is October 10.
Used cash rewards at 4.2%, couldn't be combined with qff points and thought cash provided a better overall return.

Going overseas in November so will also claim the tax refund.

Nothing comparative for under 2k with these specs, black version is 2700+, equiv xps is 3000.

13 inch model is about 2000 for same Intel, ram and sdd but basic graphic card, less usb ports and smaller battery :(

    Great deal!

I've just bit the bullet as well, my eta is 16 October so looks like a fairly long wait.

Used Cashback @ 12%, but first time user so hope it works (approx. $220 worth).

Have checked out Hardly Normal, GG and JBHiFi in stores to get a handle on what the various brands look and feel like.

Also checked online deals for similar specs across popular brands and this seems the best for me.

    Thanks OP and cheers.

    • No worries! I did the same in terms of checking out different laptops in-store. Happy you got the 12% cash back! I only got 5.2% (about $110). I called Dell to cancel the order with the intention of re-ordering but they said the refund would take 2-3 days. As I have used debit (I don't use credit cards) I didn't want to risk it and miss the deal completely.

FYI - worth double checking as mine is pending at only 8%, so had to send in a customer support request. If you leave it too long you won't be able to get it changed.

By the way the 12% is applied the price excl GST, so it should be ~$191 + new user amount

Great deal, no current 2-in-1 laptop comes close to the specs at this price. Closest rival would be the Huawei Matebook X but that's a good $300-500 more expensive running on older hardware

Glad you saw the value in this. It seems the XPS deals get more attention even if they are not as good value (but admittedly superior build).

  • Thank you OP! This is just what I was looking for. Great find.

    • No worries!

  • I received my laptop today so well ahead of the 10/10 ETA!

    • Ten days is certainly way better than your original eta of approx. 5 weeks!!
Did you order any extras? I opted for Windows 10 Pro at an extra cost of $100.
Hopefully mine will be delivered as quickly, which would mean early next week :-)

Yeah I added Windows 10 Pro as well and also 4 years support. If you have a tracking number on the order status page, put it into the Aust Post website. Even through its Star Track, the tracking didn't work on their site, even though they are Aust post as well!
