Got this for my wife recently after much research on Android phones, it is excellent, cannot get better for the price. Very nice capacitative touch screen and nDrive navigation (with full voice guidance) is a real bonus at this price. No flash support on web browser (can overcome by installing Skyfire browser) and no flash for the camera are the only minor negatives. Best outright phone under $300 I reckon.

      What he said.

    • i bought this for my wife as well a couple of months ago with prepaid virgin….great phone so far but i agree no flash slightly annoying

  • +2

Dolphin Browser adds flash capability too.

  • Can you tether Wifi withthis one?

    • +5

You can do it with any Froyo 2.2 phone, yes.

Can anyone who already has this phone advise experience with battery life? I currently have an HTC diamond touch 2 - battery life 2 days at most, even with very low usage.

According to the specs, battery life is pretty good. Would you agree?

    Stand-by Time - 2G:450 hours, 3G:450 hours
    Talk Time - 2G:5 hours, 3G:6 hours

    Thank you :-)

    • 3G:450 hours

18 day standby time? Not likely — most Android phones will need recharging once every 2 days. No matter how high end it is, even a Samsung Galaxy S will run out of juice by the end of the second day. That's assuming that you leave it on 3G and don't use any apps to manage your battery life.

    • can't praise this smartfon's battery life enough - coming from a iphone 3gs, nokia e72 and htc desire (which was terrible), this optimus regularly gives me about 2.5days standby and normal usage.
but i do switch off bluetooth, gps, wifi and 3g when not in use (easy to do using android's menu bar). btw, i live n work within 20km of cdb, don't know if that makes a difference?
      fwiw,

      • Thank you Mtrkr. Good to hear it. I keep forgetting to charge my phone because I don't use it a lot, so something with longer battery life than current phone is great.

  • This looks nice a nice upgrade for my girlfriend.

  • Does anyone know how this phone compares with the HTC Legend?

    • +2

Legend: AMOLED 16m, 5MP, SAME CHIPSET with 384MB RAM, Android 2.1 MAX due to lack of RAM requirement.
Optimus: TFT 256k, 3.2MP, SAME CHIPSET with 512MB RAM, Android 2.2 & 2.3 official upgrade avail.

      Compare here: http://tiny.cc/n8agr

      • +1

        Legend runs 2.2

        • Sry Completely forgot about 2.2, which is basically 2.1 with NOTHING in it ! lol

      • thanks

      • So the 2.3 upgrade for this phone has been confirmed by LG? Or has it already been released? Or just announced and is in queue for the upgrade?

  • Be cautious these have a problem with dust getting into the display. Worth checking to see if LG have rectified this problem.

  • Might be able to get this price matched at allphones: http://www.allphones.com.au/lg/optimus-one.asp#

    • it would still end up costing you more in petrol and time. Its free delivery to your doorstep.

  • thanks. just grabbed my dad one.

  • Can anyone shed light on the paypal checkout? Ive selected paypal, but it seems like I cant checkout without checking which credit card im using…and theres no money in my paypal account, so I dont want to press pay now… help please??!!?

    • seemed like any other paypal transaction to me. didn't have to submit any CC details to them.

      • But then did the money come out of your pp account, or your credit card?

        • well, like any paypal transaction, it eventually is withdrawn from my CC.

unless you have funds in your paypal (from selling on ebay or something), won't this always be the case?

  • How is txting and emailing on this phone?
Screen big enough to see txt?

Coming from E63 looking at first touch screen typing…..no issues?
    Runs well on Vodafone?
Anyone got any links for accessories…covers, car charger converter, screen protector

found this on cnet…can anyone confirm?:

Call quality was a little under par for what is, let's face it, still a telephone first. The earpiece is quite noisy, with appreciable static even when not on a call. It seems the company has attempted to combat this by employing noise reduction however this does more harm than good. If the voice on the other end is low enough, the noise reduction will cause the sound to strobe as if someone is turning the volume knob up and down quickly.

Does Ndrive require ONGOING DATA useage or once maps downloaded JUSt USES GPS and loaded maps?

    • +1
      1. Texting is pretty good, better in landscape orientation as keys are slightly bigger. Also can use swype or download various keyboards form Android market. Screen is sensitive and nice to use.
      2. Not sure about Vodaphone, but works well on Optus so far.
      3. Phone comes with screen cover pre-installed (no bubbles !) I got this cheap gel cover on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320696…
      4. Call quality very good on ours, no issues.
      5. nDrive does require data connection even with maps loaded, but it only uses like 10-20kb each time when you first connect.
I would say this phone is on par with a HTC Wildfire S, but at about half the price.
  • Thanks johnforeplay for your replies. Ive never checked outwith pp without it confirming my cc details, thats why I was so confused. I have 2 debit cards linked to pp…one with money and one without. Hence why I was worried that I couldnt choose. Im going to order over the phone instead!

  • Played with this phone at the stores and it's very good for the price. Bit slow on content heavy sites but otherwise works beautifully.

    Recommended!

  • My friend has this phone, I used it to take a photo for him and it was quite heavy. And the photos weren't as good (more blurry) as my old Samsung f480. And he also said it was 's#$%'. =)

  • "This Item is Temporarily Out Of Stock."

    Doh!

uniquemobiles, do you think you will be getting any more stock in?

  • I ordered yesterday lunch time and got it this morning! That's sensational shipping times!

    Awesome experience!

  • Thank you, phone arrived safe and sound, great little gadget for the price.

Unique mobiles please can you post this deal again as their are more people wanting to buy at this price

  • Mine also arrived this morning. A few observations.

The seal on the box had been broken. I'm guessing that that Unique Mobiles had to do this to unlock the phones. It shows a Virgin splash on startup, and there is a Vibe icon and Vibe bookmark I haven't figured out how to delete. From the URL and time zone, it looks like the phones were intended for the UK market.

Not that I'm complaining, it's a great price.

    • Mine was not broken.

  • Is anyone using this phone with 3? I cannot connect to Internet using the 3G network when I go out. But I can make call just fine. I can also surf the net using my home wifi network. The setting "Data enabled" option is ticked.

    • Internet works now after I entered the Node details.

  • Billy_Bob got one coming!
Can you check out Whirlpool link: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1596699&p…

and continue to answer my questions?

Edit: Can I WIFI all updates and then install the sim card and turn off data…I have 120mb to play with that is purely for EMAIL checking on and off(during the different times of the day)

Edit: Just watched youtube videos…does not have screen protector? Required?

Edit: Can I just put in my 16Gb card from other phone or will that lose some of the phone features ie Ndrive?

    • Yes, you can wifi updates and then turn all data off (settings> Wireless and network > Airplane mode) or you can access the Airplane Mode by holding down the power/lock button. Airplane mode shuts down all wireless connectivity (helps save battery too), so to check your emails you will need to turn Airplane mode off again. Hint: for web browsing with minimal data, download Opera Mini, uses stuff all data and works well.

My wife's phone definitely has screen protector fitted but it is so well fitted that it is hard to see. Have a closer look and try the "fingernail test" at the edge of the screen

If adding 16Gb card, you will need to copy contents of current 2Gb card to the new card to ensure you don't lose any functionality eg: nDrive maps.
