  • Great deal compared to previous deals. Can this jump start a car or would it need to cycle overnight?

    • +2

      Charger only, can't jump start.

    • +2

You can charge a good battery from flat to "can start the car" in like 15 mins generally, just make sure to put it on the car charge mode (or flat battery mode if its totally dead).

Most start in a low power charge mode for stuff like motorbike batteries

      • +1

Good it's got a flat battery mode. A lot of cheapies won't charge if the battery voltage is too low

        • +2

I have a cheap one that I got from Autobarn ages ago and it has a flat battery mode

          • @Hellman109: Not sure why you deserve a neg. Removed

After 7 years, mines still going strong.

    • Is this a good price?

      • got mine in 2013, 67 bux, my cycle button is worn out, and its a pain to charge it, but otherwise its ok.

      • Usually ~$100 at Repco after 30% discount. So yes it's a very good buy.

  • Been thinking about one of these for ages, thanks!

  • Would these do Lithium batteries? Couldn't see any mention in specifications?

  • +1

best charger I have few on the farm to keep batteries topped up in equipment when not used

  • Old model. The new model has now introduced powerbank

    • +1

Do you have the link to the new model?

  • Does this do stop start batteries?

  • This the best car charger and a great price. I would buy one if I did not already have one

  • would thisnbe good for the battery of a ek civic 97 model? or is it just one charger does everything kind of deal?

    • +2

Is it a lead acid battery between 1.2-110Ah? Then yes it will charge.

  • This charger is excellent.
    Great price too

  • Been using this to keep my motorcycle battery topped up when not ridden for weeks and it's so easy to use and works well. Highly recommend it.

  • Good chargers. I have an MXS 0.8 and an MXS 7.0 and both have never let me down.

  • thanks for the deal :)

  • good charger. I'm waiting for repco as I've always had issues with sparebox not delivering (maybe it's eBay related as it was always through the ebay store)

Good charger, but the mode button stopped working on mine a few years in. Made a warranty claim in year 4 and got a new one. No hassle.

    • How many years of manufacturer warranty for this?

      • mine came with 5 years

    • damnit so did mine, didnt realise it was that long!

  • Not sure if I need one, but I have 3 cars at home, 2 get driven on very short trips most of the time (<30 min drives per day). Will it prolong the battery in my car?

    • +4

Depending on the car electronics, temperature, alternator current and battery size/type. If you have a small battery then it will probably get a good top up during the short distance drive. Unfortunately for very big batteries they will be depleted slowly over time if there isn't enough charging time.

When the engine is off the electronics draw a small amount of current this slowly discharge the battery. Some cars draw larger amount than others.

If your battery is failing within one or two years then it's wise to get a charger and hook it up once a month. I get about 8-9 years of battery life from brands such as yuasa, bosch, varta and Panasonic.

      • Thanks for that. I got one anyway since I figured this will probably be good to have when I'm on holidays. I also remembered my dad telling me that the battery on his CRV died after 3 years, which was a stupidly short time, and the dealer said it was because he only drove for short trips and battery didn't charge enough. I figured this would save his battery as well.

Also looking at the prices of AGM for my car and let's just say that it's costly, so I'd figure that a battery charger will keep it running a little longer.

You can use a multimeter to check your battery state of charge it's very simple not super accurate but close enough. Scroll to the middle of the page there's a details of voltage vs charge level.

        https://www.energymatters.com.au/components/battery-voltage-…

With this info, you can decide if you need a charger.
Regular lead acid batteries are never meant to be fully discharged so I would be happy if the car can maintain a 75% charge level to remain healthy. Even AGM deep cycle batteries are not supposed to be fully discharged.

  • OP: Will CTEK MXS 5.0 work with calcium car batteries ?

    • +1

Yes it is a lead acid battery so it should work

  • Now… Is there any good deal on rubber bumper?

  • Mine has arrived today

    • Mine arrived yesterday as well. Bloody fast delivery, considering a while ago I ordered something from Sparesbox and it wasn't even shipped for a few weeks to the point that I even cancelled my order because of they couldn't even give me a firm ETA.

The charger is great! Tried on my car last night and all went well. Car seems to idle better now, could be placebo. Was at 12.3V before, so around 50-75% charge.

      • Is your alternator not charging your battery? Should be around 14.5 - 14.8v while running (could be less if you have a smart charger but it shouldn't drop as low as 12.3 before the alternator kicks in back to 14.5v)

        • I measured the battery when the car was turned off, before plugging in the charger, and it was measuring 12.32V or so. After if was charged the next morning it was around 12.5V. It's an EFB battery btw.

I'm not sure how car batteries work or when at alternator kicks in, but my car never had any issues starting issues and it's has start-stop function. Was just hoping the charger will prolong my battery since it's been in the car since new for 5 years.

  • still waiting for mine to be shippied….

    • got mine yesterday told me that my batter was dodgy and raa replaced for free… thanks i bey this will be handy for when im on holiday as it keeps the battery charged using pulsing apparently

car idles alot better now too

  • Bought this and found out the power socket is too far. Sigh! Third world problem.
