    How much is it normally?

  • +1

Hmmmm my go to gold standard wiper additive is Trico Vision (https://www.repco.com.au/en/brands/trico/trico-vision-washer…)

Anyone tried both and have an opinion?

    • +5

      I use dishwashing liquid

      • Enjoy your peeling bonnet paint!

          In over 20 years…. Never seen that…

        • What type of dish washing liquid do you use?

      • Dishwashing liquid for windows, and bowls in the dishwasher.

Where are the actual dishes? In the cupboard waiting to be used for the special occasion that never came.

      • i used to do the same, and then wondered what happened to the clear coat :/

        • I only use Palmolive

    • +1

I fill up weekly (with distilled water + additive) and tried everything available. Currently using the trico it works well and would defiantly buy it again. My favorite is autosol or Turtle Wax Bug Off and i think Bar's Bugs is crap no idea why people use it.

      • Did you try Supercheap Auto's homebrand blue concentrate?

        • Yeah its ok nothing i dislike about it ive also tried the premixed but its way too expensive.

          • @muchape: Do you usually follow the dilution instructions, or mix a bit stronger?

            • @Fobsessive: Follow the instructions or use less.
Instructions generally tell you to use more than needed.

You can use about half as much washing powder for the same result as the instructions.

      • Distilled water is a waste

  • Thanks! Love this stuff. Bought 3. :)

    • tastes great in a martini, shaken not stirred

Olive on a little toothpick – the whole nine yards really.

  • +2

Haha I used to make this stuff. The smell still haunts me.

    • +3

      Any regrets?

    • How do you make it, what’s its composition?

      • +1

I'd probably get sued if I told you. The smell comes from ammonia though.
Made in big water tanks. There was only two of us but we would carry up the buckets of chemicals and mix it in up the top with water. Test it and then the machines would bottle it up.

    • any regrets?

Guys stop it. Her name is Nora Gretz.

  • What is a good go to product to clean windscreen from inside. Windex is not really doing it. Glare can be too bad night time.

    • +2

Go to the chemist and get the Alcohol Swabs dirt cheap and clean really well.

    • meguiars window cleaner

    • +1

Bit of warm water and dish soap then go over it with Windex.

Put down a towel on the dash if your doing the windscreen.

      • This is my solution too. Just plain window cleaner doesn’t do anything for the haziness. Water and soap is the best.

        • Doesn’t soap leave marks on the glass?

        • Yep. The oils build up and Windex (now it doesn't even have ammonia - don't know if that matters) isn't enough by itself.

Apparently ammonia "cuts grease" I was thinking of adding some to my bottle of Windex but wasn't sure the implications not would have for tinted glass.

    • I found Windex didn't work until I used a microfibre car cloth. Use a little bit of Windex and a lot of pressure.

    • +1

I mix metho and water in a spray bottle and that's usually good for a few months.

    • I think a choice survey a while back had windex score last when camparing window cleaners.
Bit of metho isn't to bad really cleaning windows. Never used it on the car windows though.

  • thank you! gonna pickup 1 this avo

  • I still have some of my 5L $5 (or was it $2?) left from a SuperCheap back in 2014? One of OzBargain's best.

  • Does it work as well as the old Bar's Radiator Stop Leak?

    • +2

I found that tended to clog the washer nozzles.

      • That's surprising, considering the Radiator Stop Leak never managed to actually stop a radiator leak… it sure did leave a sludge throughout the engine's water jacket however :)

    • Best not to use Radiator Stop Leak in the cars window washer

    • I tried this to stop a radiator leak. It didn't work and I had bubbly water everywhere

My engine was clean after but that's not not what I wanted.

      • Bummer. But did it at least remove the bugs from the engine?

        • No. The check engine light is still on and it still sounds like a mosquito.

          • @spaceflight: Thanks, I always figured it was snake oil at best. I think I'll stick to plain old ethylene glycol in the washer.

            • @dcash: I use ethylene glycol for the windows. To make it easier and have one less thing to refill I have connected the wipers to my radiator, the hot glycol removes the bugs better than cold water.

              • -1

@spaceflight: I thought I was only person who did that! I've always had major overheating issues with the Kingswood (probably one too many applications of Bars Leak), so purchased a new radiator cap that had an "overflow return" valve, so when the radiator got hot the expanding water would be released into a bottle, and then sucked back into the radiator when it cooled down. It came with a bottle to install, but because I already had one for the windscreen washer I just plugged it right into that. Like you say, the hot water works a treat!
