LEGO Star Wars Tantive IV 75244 - $263 @ Target

230

This deal is part of Target's regular-as-clockwork 20% off Lego sales, which happen every other month these days.

The full catalogue is available here if you want to check out the other Lego deals.

The most notable deal in the 20% off sale by far and away is the Lego Star Wars Tantive IV for $263. Apart from Target, it's still a Lego S@H exclusive and still going for its launch price of $329 there.

A 1,768 piece set that's 62cm long and a great re-release of the previous Tantive IV sets from 2001/2009. The most detailed of the three by far with the most accurate proportions.

Everything else in the catalogue is an average deal at best in terms of price, or worse than recent deals for the same set or current eBay pricing.

  • Just what I wanted to go along with my rare Prune Face figure

  • Hey buddy, probably a silly question but will this deal be available online AND instore or only instore?
    Cheers

    • I imagine it will be in-store and online as every single 20% off Lego sale at Target has been in the past.

  • been watching this for a long time
    great price

    • In a galaxy far, far away?

  • +1

I have the previous version and actually did buy this for an upgrade, but that sticker on the front just kills me. I can accept stickers adding the odd detail here and there but this is the entire front of the ship! Plus the white stickers never match the brick colour. Such a shame.

    • +1

      Couldn’t agree more about stickers.

It’s very lazy on Lego’s behalf.

    • I don't think anyone will argue with that point.

It is the biggest flaw with this model, especially compared to the 2009 Tantive IV's transparent cockpit windows, which look excellent.

Other than that, it has way better detailing and proportions and honestly, the most interesting angle of the Tantive IV has always been the rear with that massive bank of ion thrusters. The cockpit of the in-universe ship was barely noticeable anyway.

      • That’s a good point. I sold mine before building it because of the sticker issue but to be honest i’ve been sitting here contemplating purchasing it again at this new price with that exact angle in mind for display - cockpit facing away. Just not entirely sure if it’s really a superior upgrade from 2009.

        • Well, have a look here if you haven't already.

If you're buying either of those sets (2009 or 2019) for display then I assume you care about faithfulness to the in-universe spacecraft, in which case the problem with the 2009 Tantive IV is it's basically like the pug dog version of the three. It's too snub-nosed, squashed and wide for its length.

The neck leading to the bridge/cockpit is way too short and the the engine bay at the back flares out far too much to make the thing look caricaturishly disproportionate. Compare this fairly good render of the Tantive IV to the 2009 model in the video I linked; you can see it's intended to be a far slender, sleeker craft and the only Lego version that comes remotely close to looking that way is the 2019 model (the 2001 model looks ridiculous compared to the in-universe craft; the cockpit/bridge on that one is gigantic and nearly the width of the engine bay at the back).

There's also a good isometric perspective of all three models next to each other here.

In my opinion, it's the most accurate and sensible-looking version despite the cockpit window stickers and the lack of a cockpit clamshell hinge so you can lift the cockpit canopy up and down.

  • so expensive, and it's not even a UCS… oh well, that's good as I don't need another big Lego item taking up space I don't have.

    • Yea, it’s not always about the piece count, for example the new Star destroyer has huge pieces, so in that case the piece weight is where the cost is - or potentially the cost of designing the model to begin with - but in this case I’m surprised it was so expensive - seems like they could have gone for a slightly bigger and more detailed model and made it a UCS.

I still like it though and for this price it seems good.. but still.

    • and it's not even a UCS…

It is a UCS in all but name.

It's got the piece count, size and detail of the more recent, smaller-scale UCS sets like the Slave I, Y-Wing or Snowspeeder; in fact it's the biggest out of those sets by far and it's also in minifig scale like the UCS Slave I.

The only thing it's missing is a stand and a UCS plaque but other than that, I think it's an excellent modernisation of the older Tantive IV sets.

      • +1

Although I don’t disagree with you on most points… this is definitely not minifig scale… the Slave 1 is minifig scale (UCS) but this isn’t…. It’s big enough to ‘fit’ minifigs, but it’s not ‘minifig scale’. For those who are unaware, minifig scale would be where the model (ship) is sized relative to the minifigs as though the figures were the size of the characters in the show. In this case, the ship is far smaller than minifig scale. In cases like the Star Destroyer for example, it would be virtually impossible as a consumer set, as minifig scale would be incredibly massive.

EDIT : I did a quick calculation for the ‘fun’ of it.. and minifig scale would be around 5 times this size for the Tantive IV.

        • I stand corrected. Not sure what I was thinking, as the in-universe Tantive IV is supposed to be able to transport more than 100 personnel aboard, so yes, there's no way it could be minifig scale.

  • +1

I had one of these but it was missing the ambassador piece.

    • You can get replacements for missing parts free from lego. It's easy as. You do it online, no chat required.

I've used it a few times.

    • +2

Can be a tricky one to find. Have you considered tearing the ship apart?

      • Oh. Some in-joke I didn't get?

        • Sort of.

You need to have seen Star Wars to get it.

          • @Manny Calavera: Yeah i figured but i haven't seen them in about 15 years so darned if i can remember. And i don't get to watch tv due to parenting these days

  • I reckon this at $39.20 is hot and well be lowest price but not necessary value :)

    https://www.target.com.au/p/lego-reg-harry-potter-trade-adve…

1 item of interest in there but I don't want to Ozbargain it .

    • … "LEGO Star Wars Tantive IV 75244" … is this a deal at 15cents a piece??? …. and ….
"LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar 75964 Building Kit" … is this a deal at 13cents a piece???

      • +1

HOT but not necessary value :)

Anyway besides that its dumb to value by how much a piece if you know which sets went through the roof % wise !

      • The cost of the idea or license is one of the reasons knockoff / fake sets are cheap.. they don’t have to pay for all that ‘useless’ stuff like …designing it. But also obviously, how good it looks / popular it is will put the price up, as it does with anything in this world.. it’s not a strange thing. The piece count argument is good as a reference but it’s not the only metric.

Just got one on hold for me for Thursday pickup!

  • Just tried ordering this twice and both were canceled. Chewed up the promo code they emailed me for their newsletter too.

    • +1

it's available for home delivery, looking good so far

    • For delivery or click & collect? Did you get payment confirmation first and then a cancellation or just a cancellation?

I just placed a click & collect order and got the order confirmation and PayPal receipt instantly.

      • See below for my experience. It was a click n collect order with debit card for the record. They took my money and could be up to a week before they give it back….

  • My order has been 'awaiting review' since 6:30am. I guess we just have to wait.

    • Hey mate that happened to me too!
I ordered just after midnight and did not receive any 'confirmation' email so ended up calling Target asking what was going on and they told me my order could not be processed and that there was a technical 'anomolie' (glitch).
They then said they would clear it up, counldnt say how long it was gonna take, so I went down the safe route and called the parramatta target to put one set on hold for me…And I advise you to do the same if its not too late already.
Thankfully I did that as I received an email tonight saying my order was cancelled. They did not give me a reason why in the email. And they said its gonna take up to a week to get a refund.
      (profanity) Target online ordering.
      Wont be doing it again.
Hope this helps you and/or others
      Ciou

      • I called customer service too. Apparently the purchase didn't go through because it was a 'high value purchase' and required additional confirmation. I gave my details again and I received an order confirmation email late last night.

Weird but it seems things are in track now, my card has been changed. Now we wait.

  • Mine just got confirmed (delivery).. not actually sure if I want it (or go the alternative route and BL Mortevs studio accurate version)

  • Stock dried up extremely fast since yesterday.

All metro area stores in my state went from limited stock to no stock in about 24 hours.
