They really need to try a decent codec. Must be suing MPEG2.

218 Episodes, HD, say 1GB each, plus bonuses, should fit on six discs, not sixty. It is all super-grainy anyway.

Maybe it is their idea of copy protection? Makes no sense, as they are just making a legit copy more inconvenient than a downloaded one, or Netflix.

        1GB each

        no way

        • -2

That's 3Mbps h265. Remember this is from the 1990s, and was shot for SD broadcast.

Only the last two seasons deserve a higher bitrate, the earlier ones are upscaled.

          • +1

@bargaino: H265 is not a Blu-ray compatible codec and these are remastered episodes - you can see it's much better than upscaled SD just by watching the SBS broadcasts.

@ssquid: I'm not going to defend the quality of free to air broadcasts!

      • +3

They arent using mpeg2, 1gb for 1080p with HD audio yeah maybe on netflix

Keep the bitstarving for streaming sites and the awesome quality for peeps who buy blu rays

        Around 25mbps H264 woot

"Complete" until they drag it out again for another run?

    • I gave up on the new season.

IIRC second episode made it look like there would be some explanation or closure.

Next two episodes were totally standalone and ignored any long term plot.

It was so awful that I gave up on the new season. And it's the same reason I gave up on the original x-files in the first place.

I couldn't believe they'd dare bring it back with the actors so much older then have standalone stagnating episodes. They should have explained everything to make it interesting and hard hitting - before the actors die.

      • I once would have called it my favorite show, but I only made it halfway through season 10 before losing interest, and haven't seen any more since

      • +2

The long term plot had long jumped the shark. Season 11 had surprisingly good stand alone episodes. Skip anything Chris Carter wrote, because sheesh.

  • Who believes in aliens?

We will know for sure on sept 20th…

      • What happens then?

        • +1

          We storm Area 51

          • @Whiltshire: I thought that got cancelled, ostensibly cos the U.S. government hasn't been allowed to unload on a bunch on civilians since WACO and they would have relished the opportunity of a million hipsters storming Area 51…or something like that.

            • @EightImmortals: There was a music event planned to coincide that was cancelled, because the people in charge of organising it did nothing and it would have been FyreFest all over again. A new show was set up at Vegas instead.

The actual "Storm Area51" idea was just a Facebook post, if people are dumb enough to try it that's their problem.

              • @ssquid: Fair enough, I often just glance at these things because they pop up on the radar but aren't really of interest to me so I keep a close on them. Still, a million hipsters descending on a military base wouldn't work out too well methinks. :)

    • Ancient Alien theorists say "We do!"

Best alien show I've seen recently is 'People of earth' and the idiots cancelled it after 2 seasons…TV execs are probably reptilians anyway..

      • Craaaab people

    The truth is out there

The truth is you don't need this complete collection.

    • …says the non-fan. ;-)

  • The plot is 100% filler and zero killer. Great price, but there's no need to buy this strung-out show.

    • Watch it for the stand-alones. Like a whole stack of paranormal Twilight Zones. And the Mulder-Scully chemistry.

  • Seeing Seth in the x-files was funny.

  • I just find it strange that I wasn't into this growing up, seems right up my alley. Oh well I guess i'm lucky I get a whole new show to watch.

    • This is case for the X-files team.

  • ahhh Dana Scully, my crush back then

    • Fox executives wanted Pamela Anderson to play the role. Fortunately, Chris Carter got his way and Gillian Anderson got the part. The rest is history.

  • If memory serves channel 7(?) started airing the show 5 nights per week around 10:30pm, maybe 15 or so years ago.
I was looking forward to rewatching the whole series but they stopped in season 1…

    • +2

SBS on Demand is showing X-Files on weekdays now. They have upto episode 20 in season 3 as of today. I believe they will add all seasons over time.

      • +1

The episodes are broadcast on Viceland, On Demand only has them for about 2/3 weeks afterwards.

  • The dung eating metal cockroaches and the one where the two airforce guys who are pretending to be Aliens are captured by a real Alien are very funny. The series is a decent enough time waster. This is a good price for the number of episodes.

  • To me, the most macabre and chilling episode of X-files is the one called Hell Money. This episode stuck in my mind since first viewing due to how nightmarish and repugnant it is. It was shown a few days ago on Viceland and available on SBS on Demand to watch in the next 17 days.

It is about San Francisco Chinatown triads and the deadly secret lottery they run.
Also stars BD Wong and Lucy Liu when they were young.

    • +1

Young BD Wong showed up in Jurassic Park the other night too.

      • he still looks the same in lost kingdom? makeup /cgi?

        • He is just one of those who ages gracefully. See his recent images.

    • +1

Just wait until 'Home' in season 4.

      • +1

Home is great. One of my absolute favorites

      • Goodness, pretty revolting just skimming the episode description … but don't want to know too much to spoil the enjoyment. I will be watching it. I have watched everything before, but somehow did not retain much of this episode.

  • Price has gone up to $182, with only 2 left in stock.

    • Same price at JB.
