Electric Toothbrush from USA?

Wife is in USA now. I am thinking of buying of from amazon and get her to bring it here. Will there any issue with the voltage? Thanks.

  • They use AA and AAA over there. The same as what we use here.

  • why not check and see if its support 240v? if not, there will be a issue.

I got a Philips Sonicare toothbrush from Amazon USA, and the charger is 110-240, just needed a plug adaptor.

It's quite a simple matter to use pliers to twist the USA flat pins to a 45 degree angle and the plug will then fit the Aussie socket

        That’s incredibly stupid to do

If it's not illegal it should be.

As well as being very stupid it's downright dangerous.

Considering that proper adaptors are available for as little as $1 or so online that's the safer way to go.

It is incredibly stupid to make a negative comment on something you have obviously not done!!
If done properly the adapted USA plug will fit into the Australia socket 100% with no part of the pins exposed.

          • @Ocker: It is even stupider to advocate something that could be fatal to someone following your advice.

I have not done it because electricity must be treated with respect at all times.

If a fire occurred due to the breakdown of the insulation in the lead or the plug this would void any insurance.

Unless you can point me to where it says that doing this meets all Australian electrical standards I will spend a dollar or so and purchase an adaptor and continue not to follow your suggestion.

      • And then you have the plug sticking out a bit where the metal twists. So now you have exposed live metal in a bathroom, traditionally a wet environment, and where kids are around.

Or I can just use one of my spare Xiaomi smart plugs that are just lying around.

      • Make sure to call 911 first :)

If the voltage reads 110-250 it will be fine. If it's only 110volts forget it.

  • Just get one of the soocas ones

  • How much are you saving??

I’m not sure toothbrushes are multi voltage.

    • Depends, most battery operated toothbrushes are going to run on 1.5-3.8v depending on the batteries inside. Pretty much any charger for the toothbrush will easily be able to convert 110-240v AC to low voltage DC. That's why pretty much every phone charger or similar will work worldwide.

Oral B electric toothbrushes are half price every other day at Woolies. Save yourself the trouble and just pick one up with your weekly groceries.
