FYI - according to news reports, this generation of Huawei phones may be the last of Android OS as the company released its Hongmeng OS today for its upcoming Note series.

Hong Meng is supposedly to represent China’s red flag and dream of becoming the number 1 super power. Literally translated, Hongmeng = Red dream.

    • From Wikipedia,
Hong Meng, Hung Meng, or Hung Mung (simplified Chinese: 鸿蒙; traditional Chinese: 鴻蒙; pinyin: Hóngméng; Wade–Giles: Hung-meng), literally the Vast Mist, is a character in the Daoist text Zhuangzi and a metaphor for the "primordial world, primeval chaos" in Chinese creation myths. Like many Zhuangist names, Hong Meng is a word play, translated as "Mists-of-Chaos", "Vast Obscurity", "Big Concealment", "Vital Principle", "Natural Energy" and "Big Goose Dummy".

    • Mate 30 comes with Android. And it’s specs are so Damon good!

        But no google services.

        • I think the user can install those things. I once used a phone with AOSP ROM, and could install GApps on it.

        • Could sideload it, not sure about google pay though as it requires extra security check.

      • What's Matt Damon got to do with the Mate 30?

    • I wonder who negged me?

Hongmeng = Red Dream (hidden agenda that plays on the Red Chinese Flag and the China Dream).

No, hong men according to wiki is big goose dummy.

  • Isn't no Google Play pre-installed?

P30 Pro would still have Google services as it was released pre the US ban. The new Mate 30 Pro won't have Google services, and security updates only after they are released to open-source.

      • +2

Google Services will easily load onto the Mate 30. I've been following this closely. To further add salt in the US wound, Huawei are close to making an unlocked Bootloader announcement which will encourage a huge dev community.

Anyone slightly techy shouldn't be put off by the Google Services issue.

Also, expect the P30 Pro to be $999 within weeks.

  • Would you get this or the Mate 30?
