  • Morley-WA store is already closed

    • The 7th was yesterday, wasn't it? Hence yes, yes it is closed.

      • Sorry tired eyes, missed that line

take a nap, then resume bargain hunting :P

Good deal, should've posted this myself, got some good stuff the other day heavily reduced.

"Good deal" yet no +ve love :(

There's at least one book they're still trying to sell which they (A&R / REDGroup) should have read themselves: http://twitpic.com/5jt2ek

  • Tea Tree Plaza, Elizabeth & Marion stores in SA also have 75%-80% off, but virtually nothing left — one or two shelves (not the whole case, but shelves) of crap books left … and that was Thursday night I looked, so doubt there is even that there now.

Still a bargain though, for those lucky enough to get there just as they upped the discount from 50%.

You mean you didn't want Jason Akermanis' memoirs?

      • Toilet paper isn't that expensive ;-)

  • "Get in quick before all the good books are gone!"

EDIT - DELETE: "Get in quick before".

Why? Because YOU didn't personally didn't get in quick enough???

Sorry the other inconsiderate shoppers didn't leave you enough options… Snooze you lose, buddy

  • almost all the books are gone at the shop in Frankston, only crappy books are left that i wouldnt even bother purchasing for a $1.

  • DVD's 75% off. Mostly ABC/BBC series in Wollongong.

  • It gets a plus, but I'm sceptical as to how many bargains you'll actually find at these discounts

  • Pagewood store in NSW closing on Wed 13th. Got told that all books will be $1

am i the only one who thinks its sad that book stores are closing down :(
i don't buy books from them, since they are overpriced, but just the thought of all of them closing down is sad to me

    • It's really not that bad (apart from the impacted staff of course). There's plenty of them running still Dymocks, Collins, QBD, Readings, etc (esp for a country our size). There will still be a place for them. It's just the poorly managed businesses (like any business category) which will go under. It's only been been two (Borders and RED) and both had and could still operate as online stores locally if they want. Look at how many clothing chains have gone under over the years. It's doesn't translate that people don't want to buy clothes from stores or that pricing is too high for all customers.

  • Warwick Grove WA A&R store has put up signs this morning:

    All stock $1 - $2.

There were a couple of people that were let in before main doors opened. One lady had a trolley load of books. A guy outside said they were letting in another book store owner prior to opening for their pick of the crop.

Not an awful lot left at 9am, but I did get Dan Brown - Angels & Demons for $1. Their reading glasses were also $1 from $20, in various strengths.

I know it is awful to see people losing their jobs, but I really do not understand that only a week ago they were still selling books at %50 more that BigW, then suddenly they drop them to give away prices. Surely putting up a %50 off storewide weeks ago would have brought in more money for them.

Thanks for pointing this out though

  • Forest Hill closed now … was $1/$2 everything this morning. Victoria Gardens was 85% yesterday … some stock left but should be all gone by now.

  • when are the borders store closing down, they have had the sale for weeks but no more than 40% WHICH was for the books I was buying still more expensive than online. I would go on the last few days and snag myself a few dozen books at $1 each. Yes very unfortunate for the staff specially those who were working in the store from the starting.
Hopefully they have all found jobs elsewhere or at least a secondary source of money
