Went to DSE today and spotted these 2TB externals for $99 and after missing out on the 2TB WD My Book Essential at JB Hi-Fi for $114 I thought I'd grab one of these then post the deal on ozbargain.

I know there are some online stores that list this HDD for $99 but obviously you'll end up paying a bit extra for shipping so that's why I decided to post this as a deal. DSE Online also has free delivery on the item.

  • Might be advisable to put USB 2 in the Title

    • +10

you might as well ask him/her to put the entire specs in the title

        • +3

i've made 2 post, you've made 0. your point is?

it takes 1 click to find out its usb 2.0, not every little detail needs to be in the title

        • +1

hmmm, which would benefit the community more I wonder….

a member of only 6 months who has posted two deals…..
or a member who has been leeching for over two years…..

          difficult one….

        • -5

He he wellin my defence .. i did try to make a positive contribution and I did find it cheaper and with an OW price match

      • +3

        Todger got owned

  • wow nice post!
    Grrrr Same price @ OW

    • +3

Tell OW iiBuy have them for $95 (pickup) in Rockdale NSW
      http://www.iibuy.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPa…

    • Ahh… OW was the one place I forgot to look before posting the deal though I can see two differences between the items already.

DSE has 3 year manufacturers warranty, OW has 2.

The item at DSE is an 'Expansion' External Drive. OW doesn't mention 'expansion' on the item you linked to so the models may be different? (as they've referred to this one as an expansion.)

      • (as they've referred to this one as an expansion.)

        yes very true

  • +1

oh wow, how do you make the tables?

    • +2

I know aye, very nice formatting OP.

      • +6

        Thanks. :)

        Heading1 | Heading 2
        -------- | ---------
        Line 1,1 | Line 1,2
        Line 2,1 | Line 2,2
        Line 3,1 | Line 3,2

        Produces

        Heading 1 Heading 2
        Line 1,1 Line 1,2
        Line 2,1 Line 2,2
        Line 3,1 Line 3,2

Of course you can add as many vertical columns as you wish by using the same pattern and the same goes for horizontal rows.

This is USB 2.0 The WD one at JB is USB 3.0 for $114. I would rather pay an extra $15 and get the latter.

  • +2

This HD has been at this pricce for about a month at DSE

  • +3

Been at this price for some time.

    • -5

      agree! $99 for a 2tb usb2 is no news.

Tell me when its usb3 at this price.

    • Normal price.

      • +17

True, price has been around $99 for ages…But, for those living in the country and remote places… free delivery is a blessing… Imagine driving 2hr to the nearest HN… and back…

        • -3

Agree. Not a bargain for me, hence I voted accordingly. Others can vote for themselves based on individual circumstances.

If a deal doesn't suit you….. just ignore it….. your neg will help remove the deal from view of those who it does suit.

Comment by all means, but just vote neutral if you're basing your vote on your own personal circumstances

  • It's not USB powered though eh?

    • +3

It uses USB, but also needs an external power source. You're looking for a portable hard drive if you want it to be USB powererd

  • +6

Might not be the best price around, but it's $99 DELIVERED. Not everyone lives 5 min away from dearest OW or HN. +1 from me.

  • -4

Not a Bargain - has been at this price for ages plus if you bought something else to take it over $100 you get the Free shipping anyways

    • You should definitely read the comments before commenting:

this is, of course, a dupe ….
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/47525

    reported…

    • Quote from that deal:

Just purchased this drive Seagate 2TB 3.5" HD for $99.00. Was in store at $109 and I referred them to the website and got this for $99 as advertised.

Meaning it's only just recently dropped down in price in-store…

And just for the record I did search to see if the deal had been posted previously and I must've overlooked that one because I didn't see it when I first searched before posting the deal.

Nonetheless, you previously had to pay shipping on the item but now you don't as it's listed as a 'hot deal' on the site.

      • -3

        I guess you're right…. I reported a while ago :)

    • Wouldn't bother .. the Mods have been thru the thread already - and revoked my -ve - even though there was the same HDD with same code # cheaper elsewhere

Seems that formatting and items that are not bargains but have shipping is worth voting for instead of lower prices

      • mods don't revoke negs…..
if your comment gets enough negs, it is automagically revoked

        • Ok thanks gulp :/

        • But are you sure Mods don't remove Negs if they don't meet the guideline for negative voting!?

        • But are you sure Mods don't remove Negs if they don't meet the guideline for negative voting!?

Pretty sure not, it's the user's power now

    • -2

prolly wud not of entered the thread if Ace had dun wot i said USB2.0 3.5"

move along nuttin to see here … HN are selling the Samsung Story 2T USB2 external for $89

        • +2

Wow, I can't believe the amount of rudeness here on OzBargain. Todger was just saying it'll be good to put 'USB 2.0' in the title and that is enough for some childish, verbal bashing? Unbelievable.

  • +4

I hate external powered HDDs…after using powered USB I'll never go back.

  • +5

The majority of user reviews of this HDD are negative, citing that the drive is quite unreliable (eg 1.5/5 out of 11 reviews on Cnet).

I urgently had to purchase an external HDD today (two of my internal drives are dying) and was originally looking at this 2TB 'Expansion' drive. Instead, I opted for a Seagate Goflex Desk instead (2TB $129 at DSE). Certainly not a bargain, but I wasn't going to put a price on 1TB+ of data…

    • True. I have this same model purchased from Australia Post .. seemed liked good value for a cross-the-counter purchase .. i get home and unwrap and discover it has the amazing throughput of 15Mb/sec.
      Haha.
After reading the mountain of complaints on the Manufacturer site about this product, i just wish i had done a little bit of research beforehand. Avoid.

      • Do you know if that 15Mb/sec is a limit of the enclosure or the drive?

  • +1

@pushniacki i was merely trying to say usb 2.0 is standard. if its usb 3.0, yes put that in the title but if the title doesnt state the interface, you would expect it to be 2.0 unless its usb 1.0 but that wouldnt even be considered a bargain

Thats not what you wrote .. nor the tone of your post
