Notebook/Thin Laptop That Can Play CS:Go

Hi all,

I'm after a notebook/thin laptop for under $1,000.
I'll use it for general browsing/streaming, music production & light gaming - cs:go.
Needs to be comfortably portable (rules out the TUF series).
Backlit keyboard.
14inch - 15'6inch
I'll be upgrading it to dual channel ram.

I've seen videos of the Vega 10 being able to produce 60+fps on low with dual channel, i'm not sure about intel's 620.

So far, i've found this but i don't really want a touch screen. https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/hp-envy-x360-156-full-hd…

I'm probably asking a lot. Any recommendation is appreciated.

Cheers

  • The thing with csgo is I don't think there's a single laptop at that price point that can't run it

The question becomes more do you value more portability and edge towards ultrabook form factors or performance/graphics and edge towards notebook size

    • Good points.
My current laptop is a Yoga 14, i'm happy with staying around that size. It wasn't the thinnest or the lightest but it never bothered me.

  • +1

wait for e490s deal to come back

Heard about the Hasee brand on the TechTablets Youtube channel. He hasn't reviewed one yet, but apparently the Ruskies love 'em.

  • What do you think of the TUF series? I've had my eye on them, but not been in store to check out in person yet.
2.2kg seemed to be about as good as gaming laptops get, no?
Not ultrabook of course, but 500g over that e490s seems kinda doable?

cs:go will run on basically anything if you dont mind dropping settings. I played pretty comfortably on a ~2014 macbook pro 13inch for a while

I checked out the TUF in JBHIFI the other day it had a 1060 in it, it looks good but it's a chunky boy for sure and quite wide. Surprisingly 'light' for the size. But i wouldn't classify it as portable friendly laptop.

      • hmm i better check it out. been looking online and come close to just ordering one without making the effort to look in person lol.

btw ill also add that i did some ableton work on that macbook pro a few years ago. a mate was doing the same on an 11-inch air. now i sometimes use a 12-inch macbook, but been pretty lazy about it lately.
never had too much issue with things feeling too slow or anything, but my stuff is fairly basic, and i occasionally run into a limit with too many overlaid tracks where playback would sound okay, but the UI would lag a bit. these are all old/weak laptops

basically i dont think youre asking too much. your cs:go requirements are fairly light, but the rest sounds even lighter (unless your music is pretty pro). as you arent expecting blazing performance and ultra portability or something you should be quite good with something like that thinkpad
