LEGO 42100 Technics Liebherr 9800 Excavator Kit $649.99 Delivered @ My Hobbies

120

Had my eye on this kit since I saw it shown on some Lego nerd site I was visiting at the time (ps: I love lego Technics kits and the bigger the better.). Seems Like a good price for pre-order, considering Lego has it on their site for a RRP of $749.99…
NB: Also listed on the eBays for $725 if you wanted to bookmark it and wait for one of their price jacking coupons to come around…

This is supposed to be the largest and most advanced kit Lego has built. With over 48 gazillion pieces and a combined weight of not much less than the real thing.

Kits official release isn't until "1 Oct, 2019", So I dare say that this will not be shipped until then. (A week away??) But it's also "free shipping!"

I am actually excited and on the hype train for this kit because I have actually had time working on the real things. So, get on it, NERDS! :D

    the bigger the better

    Giggidy

  • Nice set but should be able to get around 60% of RRP somewhere as a worst case scenario in the future .

Not likely that their flagship sets get discounted by that much. If we are lucky you might be able to stack a couple of ebay myer discounts to get 35-40% off

    • This is why you aren't making money on lego :p

Oh.. I think you meant "off" not "of"

Still, if you meant 40% off.. nah. Only if Myer gets them then clears them out or you get UK ebay 18% giftcards, both ways double dipped with 10-20% off coupons

    • Nowhere near 60% off.

The maximum amount that any huge Technic or Star Wars flagship sets get discounted by in their lifespan is 30-35% and even 35% is pretty damn rare.

  • This reminds me I wanted the 42055 excavator set before it goes.

    • I have that kit and built that as well. It was a massive kit.

Have a look at the assembly of the original monster digger for this LEGO replica. wow.

These diggers are awesome in real life. I am almost sure I have seen the one in that video in person. I'm trying to find some photos of these at work we have taken while we are working on them.

Best I can come up with is a photo of me with a Hitachi EX-8000. The Liebherr 9800 is bigger again than this.

Thanks, needed something to tidy up the backyard.

      • Also good for solving neighbor disputes.

  • That is a cool set. Would go well with my other technique tractors/tractor.

  • Kind of cool. But not loving it for $650. And I'm the kind of AFOL they make these things for.

    • It's expensive but does have a heap of motors and the bluetooth modules.
I'll get it eventually but like you, not for $650.

  • Damn, I thought the biggest one they had was the terrain crane! And this one dwarfs over it!

    • 42082 Rough Terrain Crane = 4047 pieces. 27x76x20cm
      42100 Liebherr 9800 excavator = 4108 pieces. 39x65x27cm

It’s a much bigger kit. Remove the boom of the crane and it’s quite small. At the look of the videos I have seen, the excavator is closer in size to the 42055 Bucketwheel kit.

    • The Rough Terrain Crane is still the tallest and longest Technic set. With the boom fully extended it's a metre tall.

The Liebherr R9800 has more pieces but the physical footprint is a bit smaller than the Rough Terrain Crane. It's still pretty impressiveness nonetheless as there are few other Technic or Lego sets that come close to the size of the Rough Terrain Crane and Liebherr R 9800.
