    • It doesn't have NFC functionality - but noone in Australia is pushing that barrow at the present
So it'll probably be about 18 months before it becomes an issue but YMMV

      • Well as soon as Google Wallet works you can use the NFC at any MasterCard pay-pass station.

  • +1

any idea if this is the tegra2 or exynos version? Either way good deal, just curious.

    • +1

No Tegra2 version released yet afaik.

    • i9103 is Tegra 2 version, this is Exynos.

  • -2

this can't be the correct price for a brand new phone thats top of the line atm.
however, like everyone else, i bought one. let's see if they honor it.
    somehow i doubt it tho..

My Mate loves curry and the sg2 !!!

    dont you just hate ozbargain?

  • -1

Samsung are about to drop new revisions of this phone containing the NFC chip, making current stock close to worthless. Hence the sell-out

    • +1

Not sure about worthless, but it does seem true: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobil…

    • It is true, there are lots of articles in May saying that the NFC enabled Samsung Galaxy 2 will be out soon.

So now we know there's a catch and why this is so cheap.

      • No, this phone just got released in AU. Telstra has not even released theirs yet. Why would anyone drop the price when there's unconfirmed release date for NFC version? That's like selling iPhone 4 for $200 cheaper because iPhone 5 is coming out supposedly in the near future.

        • Unconfirmed? It's coming out this month in the UK…

        • -4

Your entitled to your opinion, no matter how incorrect it is.
The phone has been out for 4+ mths, and will be old stock very shortly - effectively worthless. That an NFC revision of this phone is due imminently has been confirmed by Samsung 2 mths ago, that is why they are dumping it.

        • @dkslim Do you have a source for the NFC-enabled version being released this month in the UK? I've been waiting for the NFC version, and haven't heard anything yet, so I hope you're right :)

        • -2

@gilbarc yes my source is google :) he can be your source too!

        • @dkslim Like I said, I've looked and haven't found anything confirming when the NFC-enabled version is being released.

      • -4

        So why neg my comment?

        • +2

Show me a confirmed release date before you run your "mouth", otherwise it's all speculation.

The phone's been released for 4 months? What? It was released end of April in Korea, yes. In UK in May, but only released in June for Aus and not even released in the US yet.

    • when can we start using this feature?

    • +10

How does adding an NFC chip make the current top model Android phone "useless"?

  • Does this work on Telstra Next G for 3G data? (spec does say UMTS 850Mhz), but I wanted to confirm before I pull the trigger.

    • +2

It's quad band. Will work on NextG and all Australian networks. I have it running with Telstra as well. Got mine from UK for 700 though haha. Speed Tests (in Melbourne) result in 6Mbps down on average. That's great if you ask me. 3 only gave me 2Mbps.

      • I have downloaded a speed test app for my SGS andriod. Do you have any app like this on the S2? Curious to see which connection point you're using in Melbourne, as i will look to lock onto that permanently for data connection…bit disappointed though, expected a minimum of 7-8mbps based on what this phone offers as a maximum AND what telstra offer on nextG…

  • I bought one too hope they honour it. Else they better give me my money back promptly

  • best deal from shoppingsquare so far?

  • I was looking for a phone, and bought the phone instantly within seconds I saw the deal! Thanks!!!

    • +4

Did you just neg the deal accidentally? LOL

Or are you trying to get enough people to neg it so it'll get hidden? ;)

      • -3

I apologise for negging. that was not in the spirit of ozbargain.. i just hope this bargain doesn't go out of control and we all lose :(

  • +1

Good deal, but too late to save me from selling my soul to Vodafail for the next 2 years. sigh

  • is this unlocked? Please someone tell me - thanks

    • +2

      Yup

  • +2

    yes babe

    • Thank you:)

  • awesome price !! i got an awesome deal for voda $45/m with $10/m handset replayment with 12 Month contract !!! :)

    • :o
I just signed up last week Tuesday on Voda for $45/m with $10/m but a contract for 24 months :(

How did you get that for 12months?
and more importantly is there anyway I can get that too :P
Also is that the $45 infinite plan that you signed up to?

    • +2

      Pics or it never happened.

  • For those who are buying this outright, are there any plans out there you would recommend?

    • +1

      the telstra $49 freedom BYO

      • +1

2nd that.. Whatever the others are offering, don't bother. Unless of course you're satisfied with a second rate network.

    • +1

TPG Mobile uses the Optus network (used by virgin as well) and they have plans for BYO that cost around $10 for light usage to $36 for heavy usage.

      http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/plans.html

They are incredible value in comparison to anything Telstra or other telco's can offer.

  • +1

    Did someone buy 10?

    • Why do you think that? But they're stupid if they did :S

  • I just bought from Handtec UK.

    • How much for? Did they deduct the VAT?

      • +1

Handtec don't charge VAT and costs about 419GBP (about AUD$640) delivered through FEDEX (don't use DHL, there's been a lot of thefts reported lately).

  • i bought it i hope its really unlocked

  • +1

I just bought this, have already received confirmation. Here's hoping!

  • Just bought this! I have a feeling were all gona get screwed LOL

    • VERY expensive mistake if so…

but i doubt it will be :)

  • i noticed it doesn't mention 'brand new on the page' might be refurbished units?

  • +1

lol they may send 9/10 to cover the lost…

  • Fingers crossed

  • i swear shoppingsquare is seems to be run my ESL students

    • +38

    • +4

      Awww, how kind!

    • +5

so hes the 1 that bought 10

    • +9

Yeah right. A-tick sounds like a way to con aussies into paying inflated prices to me.

    • +4

IT IS 150% LEGAL FOR AN AUSSIE (OR A HUMAN BEING) TO BUY/USE/IMPORT AN OVERSEAS PHONE IN AUSSIELAND.

who you talking to?! there's no re-sellers here.

    • +1

good way to get yourself negged lol

      • +5

I think matching the number of negatives to his username would be epic! xD

        • He's on 50one (51) negs now, had the satisfaction of casting the 51st neg

    • +3

What a great friend. Are you the person who calls the cops at a party because you're worried the neighbours can't sleep?

    • +10

mr 50one is actually Gerry Harvey.

      • +3

How do we know you're not a competitor who is looking to put the boot into APUS, or perhaps someone with other sinister ideas? I mean seriously, you only joined OzBargain today and you offer a Gmail address as a point of contact.

If you really are legitimate about this then at least start by directing people to an official website or point of contact. To be frank, although what you describe may be true, the approach you have taken in addressing this lends you little credibility and is hardly going to garner the community support you're after.

      • -1

here's a tip…. your gmail address is EXPIRED, create a new one for 2011 !

      • +3

You're a buzzkill. This is Ozbargain.

        • +5

          Agreed, this isn't OzEthics.

        • Gotta love selective capitalism…

Importing by an individual to save themself money = Wrong
Done by an Australian business to make profit off as the middle man = Right

    • +2

      Lol at this
Apart from the fact that this phone is identical to the ones sold world wide, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't have the A-tick on the phone, in the box or manual somewhere (just like the iPhone).

Also if it's shipped from overseas, does it constitute being sold in Australia?

      • +4

        I think this means he's a competitor :)

        • +2

Definitely, I remember the time Officeworks refused to pricematch MSY because they were "illegal imports"… what a crock of SH**.

      • +2

The phone model codes are identical, only difference is the $300 sticker.

I'm sure you can buy A tick stickers on eBay or something way cheaper than that lol. Heck you could even buy a cheap assed a tick phone and pinch the sticker off it, job done.

        • +4

I can just tell them the a tick sticker burned off in the fire then, since the phone is otherwise identical, how would they know.

        • @50one

You also have a lot more problems if you need to claim warranty as Samsung service centres will refuse to deal with non A-tick Samsung phones.

This is grey-market stock. You're not going to get local warranty support with this anyway.

      • +2

it's not that they don't want to sell imported phone, it is all about profit. Imported phone and they have to pay tax beside they get good commission from supplier here so why bother.

In addition when buying from a shop, buyer expect an Australian warranty and retail price in the shop for imported phone will not be much cheaper than Australian one so who should bother for little profit with so much responsibility.

You are just hypocrite with sinister motive to foul play ShoppingSquare. Who knows you may be one of competitor which also sell mobiles online.

    • -1

why are you so busy body? just neg you for being nonsense…

    • +6

The A-Tick sticker clearly contains a secret Cybertronian technology that prevents your phone from transforming into a Decepticon.

    • +1

      Props for breaking -30 barrier.

    • Ozbargainers ignore people like you and end up happier with substantial discounts

  • +1

Great deal! Still have 14 months on my iPhone 4 contract, tempted to get one and sell the iPhone and use this phone! does anyone know if I can pay out my iPhone handset repayment? (10 a month for 13 months= $130) am I legally able to sell the phone? I am on the 49/a month plan

    • +1

no u will have to pay $49 +10. that sadly the way it is. $10 is not the cost of the phone.

    • Technically you can't sell the phone until you finish the contract, but they won't know anyway, so long as you pay out their plan they won't care.

      • +2

        +1

Illegal how? Why would i complain about a bargain?

Who would really care if Aus retail is selling almost 1/3 more with a "A-tick"?

    • +1

can some one please ban this guy for spam!

    • Sounds like this guy is a competitor, if you look at his stats he only has 2 posts and those are in this thread. Probably saw this and felt threatened.

So let me get this straight you don't agree with the laws but you feel strongly against Australian companies selling illegal products… so which one is it mate?

    • +1

      Total spammer/botter

cmon Mods, ask Thor for the banhammer once more!!!

  • hopefully this isn't one of those "if it is too good to be true …." maybe tomorrow, those who ordered will get the "sorry, pricing error" email :D

    • +2

aww man, dont tell me SS is also owned by the Hut group LOL :P

      • The Hut Clan owns a large number of Outer Rim retailers, so it's possible.

  • Ordered, let's see what happens.

Don't care if it doesn't have NFC.

The 'Tegra 2' version is called i9103, so it's probably Exynos.

  • +1. Great find. Ordered one and if it comes through I'll sell off my Galaxy S :)
