      • Vodafone offer free unlock and it's a confirmed Australian warranty and phone. Are we going to be any better off if they decide to open our boxes before delivery?

        • Yeah well it was a subjectively lucky purchase. (Unless others are also going for that price range?)

I don't intend on selling the SGS2 so it makes sense the maintain the order.

    • Probably the phone is fine, but the seller was a bit doggy. First, the title said brand new, unopened. Later he admitted that he opened it to check. Why did he have to open it to check? That isn't a normal practice.

  • Just asked about stock etc.

    Hi Customer,

    Thank you for your reply.

It will be an UK stock. However we do source it from Asia as well and are told that Asia and UK model are nearly the same. So you'll be receiving either one.

With regards to the box, we are advised by supplier that some phone boxes are sealed while some arent. So we have no control over it.

    • What reason would lead to the phone boxes being unsealed other than the fact that the handsets refurbished? Or is it because they want to put the adapter in?

      • +1

Apparently because they want to insert travel adapters, which doesn't make sense to me as it's already very tightly packed.

    • That sounds kinda dodgy…

    • +1

WHAT? If it's a new phone, it should be sealed, damn it!!

    • +2

I'm pretty sure hey take out the AC adapter, hence the open box.

That's what happened to me when I ordered my DSi form ShoppingSquare.

      • Yeah but this isn't ShoppingSquare's doings, they said their supplier is providing some sealed and some unsealed and they have no control over it.

        • They need to make sure the supplier sells sealed boxes, or source from somewhere else. If I get an opened box I will be claiming a refund and make ShoppingSquare pay for return shipping.

  • Just started my own support ticket yesterday (17/07/11) and got a prompt response.

Thing is though, they're still quoting me to wait 2-3 weeks and they are still unclear of an ETA of stock…

    From Shaun 1
    "Hi Shaun,
Thank you for your kind reply.

    Please understand that we do not keep your money because once you open the dispute Paypal will hold the order and money until their investigation. There are 2 options;

    1) If you would like to speed up the refund process, please kindly close the dispute so we can straight away and offer you FULL refund"

A PayPal seller advising to close your dispute is at least dodgy in the extreme if not a SERIOUS breach of PP's T&C.

BTW, the PayPal dispute and subsequent refund will be expedited if the seller admits they are in the wrong.

There is no need for a buyer to withdraw a claim to speed up the refund process.

It is almost Murdoch-esque how these people are allowed to continue to offer PayPal after so many reports of being sent the wrong items, refusing or delaying refunds and being sent second hand goods.

It seems as if the fees are high enough, you can skate through these things unscathed.

    • +1

Yeah PayPal are dodgy enough, but this "kindly close the dispute" BS from SS takes the cake.

The seller always has full access to a button they press in their PayPal account to refund your order, it couldn't be any simpler for the seller to do.

Once the dispute is closed, you can't re-open it in PP, so doing this can delay you refund for a very very long time indeed and you may have to use other channels to recover your money.

If I were you I'd escalate it to a PP claim, since they are surely breaching some PP rules by saying you should close it. Also IIRC its only when it escalates to a claim that PP hold the funds in the sellers account. So thats 2 counts of BS from SS right there.

    • The worst case scenario is being built in my head:
      - The phone arrives 4 weeks later
      - Box is open
      - I have a doubt about it being new
      - I try to get a refund
      - SS says it's new and they had no control over it as it was their supplier
      - I open a PP dispute
      - SS says I have to close it for them to process the refund
      - I don't get the refund for a few months and am stuck with a phone I can't use as I want to return it. During which I'm using an old beat up nokia on my Next G plan paying $50 per month.

      What to do…

      • +1

        this worries me as well

      • It's probably not worth the stress and just buy from clove as it's pretty much guaranteed…

      • Open a paypal dispute and ask for a partial refund.

Never close the paypal dispute, escalate and show paypal proof that SS asked you to close the dispute for refunding you the money. That's a winner !!

  • Decided to pull the pin and cancel my order. It's all sounding too dodgy. ETA keeps changing, source of stock keeps changing, and the possibility of an open box makes me think it my not be a brand new, unused phone.

Who is another reputable overseas seller?

    • +1

A lot of Aussies buy from http://www.clove.co.uk/ but you only get a return to UK warranty.

      • Works out the same price as buying from Ebay AU around the current SS offer, which other online retailers seem to be matching now, so its a better deal, but not great by any stretch. Perhpas the best bet for most of us, or at least what i'll be doing whilst hassling SS is waiting for a better deal (540-560 mark) and buy at that price, or if notihng drops that low with BIN or auction price on ebay, will force SS to give me a sealed phone, as since they are buying from multiple suppliers, they can control which one they give me.
I also told them if they give me a phone which has been opened for no logical reaosn when they advertise the phone as BRAND NEW, i will buy their ebay stock, pay for it, file a claim and leave negative feedback…

  • Hi everyone,
I made an order with this deal, I have made a thread on whirlpool at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1739999&p…
If you have ordered this phone please look at the thread and post, as a group we can put pressure on shopping square to honour this deal.

    • +1

      Didn't last long.

    • Your thread was deleted.

      • Perhaps SS run whirlpool as well…

  • The consistent msg from here with regards to delivery seems to be early to mid August.

Depending on where you are in Australia.
Once the shipment reaches Australia, sometime early august, 'it will be delivered between 3-10 days' going by the quote from the ticket I sent them earlier today.
So the maximum wait time is around mid august for the phone. Seems a little long… although if shipment gets to oz early, I mean like on the 1st of august. the earlist you can get the phone would be the 5th of august; given on weekend no delivery.

  • I had a look at their ebay feedback and none of them are for the Galaxy S2 as of yet. I wonder where their inventory of 150 went to?

  • why has it been deleted?

    • Not sure…the moderator did not leave a comment…Probably the best place for it would be "on The Internet"

  • Received an unexpected message from SS. It seems they like to offer a full refund instead of shipping it to us.

They also mention [The ETA of the new batch is 2-3 weeks time. The dispatch will take place within 1-2 working days upon arrival of the batch.]

    Another 2-3 weeks time……………..

By the way, does anyone have the original web page of this offer?

    • +1

yep, I saved the page… $473 but out of stock

  • mee tooo……[email protected]

    • +1

emailed the page to you both (vella & ebrij)

      • can i hv one too? :)
        [email protected]

        • email sent

        • any reason why you guys want the url?

        • wow, your student number is pretty old, you a post grad?

  • +1

Has anyone who requested a refund get their money back yet? If so, how did you request it (paypal, email, ph)?

Shopping Square seem so dodgy. There are some guys on whirlpool who only got their refund after 1 month!
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=765749&p=…

Not sure what to do right now…are we able to lodge a complaint with someone after 2 weeks if we don't get the phone (e.g. ACCC)?

p.s. this is not the first time SS has offered dodgy deals on ozbargain, I vote a ban for future ozbargain posts for them!

    • +1

I requested a refund yesterday afternoon by email. Today, I received an email to advise that my refund request should be approved soon, and once again they apologised for not having stock of the phone.

So, it's all in writing now and I believe this is how the refund request should be made. If there is a need to follow up the progress of the refund put that request too in writing, but it wont hurt to give them a call in person.

      • +1

They didn't respond to my request for a refund (in response to their offer of one) on Friday, and nor did they issue one. I called them on Monday (just before 12pm), and the CS rep stated she was putting in a refund request and that i could expect to receive it in approximately 24h; that has still not happened. I will call them again tomorrow.

        • I think I will go for the refund now, can you guys let us know how you go? Thanks

        • I called again today and the two individuals i spoke with were both very polite and pleasant to deal with. A refund was issued through paypal this afternoon.

I would encourage anyone who has requested a refund and not yet received it to call them (0296663055). i was very impressed by the genuine eagerness to help demonstrated by the CS rep (Christine) and another staff member (I didn't quite catch his name, i think it began with a W).

      • Agreed, Christine is very helpful.

  • +1

    got the same email.
1 month for full refund?! wtf! 2-3 weeks..
this is the 2nd week already!

  • What specific plans and with which providers are you guys going to go on if these actually come through?

    • -1

not exactly the best time to ask these type of questions when everyone's mood is so down btw

      • I don't see why not - it's a fair question. I think if you are getting caught up on this deal (which hasn't hit boiling point yet - two weeks from last Thursday as per their estimated restock date), then you need to take a step back and remember this was an erroneous deal to begin with, coupled with SS's somewhat dodgy history - you and I accepted this when we pressed the checkout button. Easy come, easy go - that's what im maintaining. (Assumption that you bought one)

    • The LiveConnected Pioneer Medium for $14.99 = $400 calls + 1.5 GB data

      • Wow how did I miss that!

        Currently on TPG paying $10 for $125 + $130 + 250MB.

Is it directly on the Optus network too?

        • Sorry for the late reply. It uses Optus network and should have same performance as TPG. It seems that LiveConnected is the way to go if you like to use data.

It should be noted that LiveConnected uses per minute billing, as opposed to per 30 sec from most other plans.

  • Price went up to $624.95+$49 on their website now.

  • +1

Got sick of all this. Have asked for a refund now. They say it will be refunded soon. Did not lodge a paypal dispute as yet. And Never gonna go to ShoppingSquare site again… huh

  • +5

I've scoured the net, several countries and bargain websites; no price beats what i've paid by a LOT. As much as it sucks, I am going to wait, as i'm in no rush for the phone and like most people here, as horrible as the service is, as long as i get the box sealed/unopened and as specified, i should be content…

    • 3weeks!! you can probably get it for less after that

      • and that is why you used the word "probably", what is your probability rate btw?

why did you get so confident about the massive price drops ever since this deal came on?
did SS become the trendsetters for every other retailer?
was the price drop intentional and meant to be sold at this price in the next 3 weeks?

give us your inside info :)

  • +8

Just called up SS - they've said they are still on track to ship 1st week of August (+3 days for Fedex to get it to its customers).

  • I sure hope so. Can't wait to play with my.. i mean my girlfriend's new phone… hahaha

  • +2

Spoke to them this afternoon and at least they are looking at an eta of early August still, as I was worried the 2-3 weeks was never getting any less!
I do think they will deliver but they have got to learn to communicate better!

    • but have you received the tax invoice in your email? strange, my account on shopping square and paypal shows me as having paid for the S2, but i still have not received the email invoice and confirmation.

      • I don't think you need to worry about this. There was probably a mixup in the autogenerated email process. SS is dodgy, but not that dodgy! If you wrote to them or called them, you will promptly get your tax invoice emailed to you.

        • thanks man! just a bit more and hopefully the long wait will be over!

      • I would ring and request they sent it again.

  • Got the refund this afternoon. All up took about 2.5 days. Their CSR (Christine) was very polite and very helpful.

    • Yeah, she is an absolute champ.

    • Got the refund, Organised by Christine as well. Took about 2 days.

  • So they've managed to sale another 75 Galaxy S2s fixed price on the bay:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-i9100-Galaxy-S-II-3G-S2-N…

Plus probably another 100+ or so by Ebay auctions… + 500 here = around 700 Galaxy S2s sold… Wow… Hopefully they've made their money back and get on with it! Some sort of guestimate (see how crazy people get sitting here waiting for their spanking new phone to arrive lol):

    ShoppingSquare Cost price: $550
    Sold 500 at $520 = -$30 x 500 = $15,000 Loss
    Sold 200 at $650 = +$100 x 200 = $20,000 Profit
Overall = $5,000 in the black

At least the Ebay fixed price listing says:

Delivery: Estimated between 29 July - 05 August

Which is some sort of date we can look forward to lol… not too far away now

    • Not to mention interest that could be made off of $520 x 500 = $260,000 over a month. Well I suppose that's another $1k or so interest at 5% p.a :P

      • -1

I don't doubt that their cost price for HK stock is less than $500.

    • not very accurate with the ebay calculation, you need to always add these 2 (most horrendous costs) by eBay,

      http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/fees.html

      https://www.paypal.com/au/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-receiv…

and packaging and shipping cost of maybe $10-$15 on bulk.

looking at minimum of at least $45-$50 before it goes out the door,

      650-45 = 605 - 550 = 55 * 200 = $11,000 profit (maybe less)

      • They deserve to lose that, the overselling continues to cover their own A$$es

  • +2

Just thought I'd post what I have been told about the sealed/unsealed box. I asked one of the reps (Christine) about this and her reply was:

"No, these items are not opened, they do come in sealed boxes."

And in regards to the source of the stock:

"This product will be sent from Hong Kong."

    Hope this helps.

    • Asked the same question about unsealed box, and got the reply on 19th.

The only reason we might open the box is to put the adapter in the box but that's about it.

We will be the ones who will be covering the warranty for this unit if there was anything to happen to it.

      Kind Regards,

      Christine

      • people can be uptight sometimes due to warranty issues… but lets put it this way, you go to ebay, you go to gumtree, you go to forums and you buy a used sgs 2 from some random aussie that got it on a plan, a slim chance but the phone goes awkward and you want to get some warranty service, guess what?
you're out of luck since Samsung will ask for proof of purchase and all aussie carriers tie their warranties directly with the customer's account. It's another can of worms that you might not want to land on just to get the phone quicker at the same (or slightly higher) price

  • +1

Well said annoynimous, people just need to relax. There is always a catch to every sweet deal.
I bet that those people who claim that they will never buy from Shoppingsquare again will no doubt jump onto the next bargain that pops up.

    • Possibly, but that will depend on your feedback when your SGS2s arrive. If there are reports of open boxes, etc then probably wont use them again.

  • I Got my Galaxy the Other day from Vodafail On 69 + 5/mth on 12 Month Plan. In love with the phone with only 60 to pay. as i am using the 69 plan for the last four years so effectively got the phone for just 60 bucks.

  • What's Shopping Square's refund/exchange policy? If the boxes were open, can we send back for a replacement or to get money back?

    • same question here but I think it is possible, just beware it's gonna be (even more) frustrating to deal with shoppingsquare again. correct me if I'm wrong ?

    • The question is would you bother?

I want my box to be sealed on principal.

  • Just a question, I'm still with optus contract (with a shit phone) till end of this year, but they said "you can upgrade your contract with new phone around september". So, am I better off get a refund for this phone and wait to sign a contract or get this and go on with no contract, say, with Live Connected or TPG ? ( Think they're cheap and on Optus network). Cheers.

    • +1

Phone plans are a lot like cars, everyone has different requirements and preferences and what suits one person won't suit others, so it's impossible to give a yes or no answer without a lot more information that you have given.
Would need to know call usages and patterns, money you wish to spend, importance of coverage quality Vs cost to you and a whole lot of information before we can offer any useful advice.

Personally I am with TPG on their $1 PAYG plan and it suits me great as I am a light phone user. I always buy my Phones outright, don't currently have a use for a contract plan as I would never use the included (inflated) call credit that most provide.

      • My usage at most from recent bills I would say ~$200 - $300. I haven't used much of the data included for the 49 cap (1.5Gb) as it is not a "smart" phone. I think with a newer phone I wouldn't use more than that.

Money is the reason why I have to seek for an alternative to the big telcos plans. After doing a research about value and coverage I think Live Connected would be the best choice ($15/ month no contract, $400 call, 1.5 Gb data - Optus coverage )

==> So, still a few months to end of contract in Dec. I'm still considering these:

        1. Wait for the Galaxy S2 to arrive ( hope with sealed box and no dodgy tampering…) and use Optus for a few months, then port to Live Connected (CHEAPER then new contract- phone 520 + 15*24 with LC + fear with annoying SS style and problem with LC)

        2. Cancel, get refund and wait till the end of contract to sign another contract with another better phone (EXPENSIVE- this same phone on the cheapest contract will likely be around 1200-1300/2years BUT warranty from big telcos)

        • +1

I'm assuming you're using $200-$300 a month that's covered under your $49 plan, as opposed to paying that amount.

If you wait until Dec, the Galaxy S2 would almost certainly be cheaper than today's prices.

        • +1

I think you have the right idea with that plan, it looks pretty good based on the information you have provided.
As for waiting for a better phone, well supposedly the quad core phones will be shipping by Christmas but I suspect that they won't be available locally at that time or local prices will be prohibitive as you suggest and until new handsets are actually available (or at least imminent) there will be no reason for anyone to drop the prices of the current handsets so I'd suspect that you will be lucky to see the SGS2 drop to the the Price we have paid any time soon.
They will gradually get cheaper on Plans, but again, not substantially until there is something better on it's way.

        • Thanks for reply guys. Since I'm not a big user of phone calls, I think another contract is just playing into the hands of the big telco. Just recently took a more careful look at the signal bar of my phone (dumb phone) in different places (uni, Melb CBD, northern suburbs, home…) and it nearly NEVER got full signal. This is what I got when paying $49/month for Optus so expecting the same thing for TPG and Live Connnected… Now only thing worries me is data speed and cap.

Anyway, buying outright this phone or for another are my choice, as on the plans it will never get that cheap. Eventually why we all came to OZbargain to get things cheaper

  • Anyone actually got the phone or a shipped notice yet? So they had 150 in stock was all just bull?

    • So they had 150 in stock was all just bull?

      That's typical @SS!

  • I've cancelled my order - decided to go with telstra and their phone.

will post on success of refund (paypal) - requested on 22/07/2011 friday afternoon. Was given an ETA of Tuesday 25/07/2011.

    • Tuesday should be 26/July?
      else you mean Monday 25/July?

      • yup you're right, Tuesday 26th July

        • just checked email - refund is back into my paypal account!

  • -2

I just cancelled my order today, Christine said it will take 2 days to refund,
so I should expect a refund on Wednesday 27/July/2011.

1 month wait is really a joke,
I rather save the money and buy something else/new iPhone instead,
to receive this phone @ August, price will surely drop when new iPhone come out!

  • I did the same on the friday and she said the same that should receive by 25/07/2011. What a waste of time!

  • +8

Arent we expecting it within next 1-2 weeks

you guys are impatient - getting this far and all…

    • its typical human psychology, that is why local retailers are still doing so well preying on the weak minded :D

      • A better deal popped up through work with Telstra, so it made no sense to wait.

net effect? $30 more (over 24 months), get 2 year Australian warranty and supposed "tweaked" version.

        • Is this the Telstra deal? Or was it something else? I'm asking as my SO is interested in an Android handset on the Telstra network.

        • +1

haven't been on a plan for 4 years now, don't intend to break tradition :p
