Kingston HyperX Cloud Stinger Wireless Headset for PS4 for $89 + Delivery (Free Pick up) @ PC Case Gear

240

Hi everyone,

I was browsing through PC Case Gear's spring clearance deals and stumbled upon this gem of a deal. $89 (RRP is usually ~$179) for a Kingston HyperX Cloud Stinger Wireless gaming headset for PS4/PS4 Pro. Standard shipping shows up on my screen as $15 via eParcel so it ends up being cheaper than some of the other sellers listed on StaticIce.

I haven't used this headset personally but I have used their HyperX Cloud Flight Wireless headset and I have found the audio quality to be brilliant and lag free. It uses 2.4ghz wifi connection instead of bluetooth so it has a much better response time than the bluetooth headsets. This headset is rated for 17 hours on a single charge, which is quite believable at reasonable volumes as I have gotten pretty close to the claimed 30 hours of battery life on the cloud flight.

The headset uses a 50mm driver in a closed back system so the bass will be great, and it only weighs 270g which funnily enough is lighter than the wired version. The wireless range is 12 metres and it should be quite comfortable as you would expect from a Kingston headset. Volume jog dials are available on the headset and it works as a 2.0 headset without any 'simulated surround sound' tweaks.

Please note: This model is listed as PS4/PS4 Pro only. I am aware that there is also another model that is listed as compatible with the nintendo switch and PC but I can't guarantee this headset will work for them as it only lists compatibility with the PS4 ecosystem. Logically it should work with PC, but it definitely wont work with the XBox ecosystems.

    Great write-up OP.
    What's the RRP?

Hard to find the RRP, it's listed as $179 on PC Case Gear but the price on mwave is $185. I will assume the pccasegear RRP is correct as PC Case Gear is listed as one of the official suppliers on the kingston website along with JB HiFi (currently on sale there for $120)

  • Can you use the ps4 version on pc as well?

  • Just for info on anyone wanting the upgrade, JB have the Flights on special for $175.

    • Amazon regularly put them on sale for under $140, though the exchange rate isn't helping.

It's also possible they're going to be discounted, as both Corsair and SteelSeries have refreshed their lineups in recent times.

Not necessarily. I wear glasses and find these the most comfy ones, compared to the other ones that I have tried: Razer Kraken Pro V2, Corsair HS60 and Superlux HD681. YMMV, though.

I also wear glasses and they are extremely comfortable.

    • it depends on your glasses frames. I wear frames that are flat metal against my head, compatible with pretty much all headphones. If you wear thicker frames, you may run into problems with most headphones. The cloud flights are quite comfortable with my glasses, i would imagine these would be too.

      • I don't think anyone read the review. It's not about comfort with glasses, it's about quality of sound.

Bass delivery is prone to inconsistencies, especially on individuals who wear glasses

The HS70s which go on special for roughly the same price don't appear to have this issue. I'm still not quite sure which model is best.

  • Anyone know if there are any models that are compatible with both PC and Xbox?

    • There are models compatible with the PC, this one should be compatible but I have not tested it on the PC since I'm still using the cloud flights.

However, Kingston don't have any wireless headsets that are compatible with the xbox due to incompatibilities with the microphone setup.

  • I would imagine the audio quality on these are not great, and would instead suggest hanging out for another Corsair HS70 sale at around $100.

You'll also get double the battery life if you step up again to the Cloud Flight or Arctis 7 at $130-$150.

  • "For PS4" is a bit misleading IMO.

Unless it's changed, the only headsets to receive virtual surround processing from the PS4 itself are Sony's own two headsets, one of which is around this price but not wireless from memory although I may be wrong on that point. Everything else is two channel stereo mix.

PC can use any 3D processing you like via Equalizer APO and HeSuVi if you don't like whatever is on the headset natively.

This is important because virtual surround relies on the shape of the users ear and head and not all algorithms work for all people which leads many people to conclude that it doesn't work full stop when an algorithm change would cause it to work.

    • Personally I think virtual surround is overrated anyway. I've tried the true 5.1 wired headsets, and whilst they aren't bad, they are usually too close to your ear to be able to isolate channels well. I prefer 2.0 headsets like this.

  • Looks like they're on sale all over the place

Got a free pair when i signed up to My Republic gamer plan

First set of wireless gaming headphones I've had so i really cant compare. Max volume isn't that great (can probably boost with my MB audio software). Sound is decent - but I'm sure there are better headsets for the same price.

As for the Mic - can't comment as i have no friends to talk too.
