[VIC] Python Programming Workshop $20 (5/10 9am-4pm) @ Alamein Neighbourhood & Learning Centre (Ashburton)

220

Hey OzBargain! I'm back again!

Anyone interested in an introduction to Python programming or missed the last workshop? (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/482885)

I'm running another 1 day course this Saturday 9-4PM at Alamein Neighbourhood Learning, teaching the basics of Python programming.

This workshop is for people who have 0 knowledge of programming, but want to get their hands dirty with coding! It's a beginner friendly environment & a great way to kickstart your interest in programming!

We'll go through the fundamental Python concepts and if time permits, we'll solve a finance case study that extracts price data from online exchanges and compares price differences of the same asset.

If you like the sound of the program, I'd love to see you there on Saturday!

Tickets are only $20 (just enough to cover room hire and Eventbrite fees) for the whole day which is as affordable as an online course, and you'll have the added benefit of being able to ask me questions instead of waiting for help in an online forum.
(Yes, it was $15 last time - I wasn't able to get the same room hire rate this time around)

If you have any questions, please post a comment or visit my website at https://www.edgecate.com

Wish I was in Vic. Would be good to go!

  • Would it suit a secondary school kid?

    • Yep!
In the last workshop there was someone of high school age and understood the concepts really well!

Is there any software development tool that need to be installed on laptop before going?

    • +1

Yep, I'll get participants to install Python 3.7 from python.org which is only a few steps, and should only take 5-10 minutes.

You can follow the installation instructions here: https://youtu.be/q_ONOVrrx9M

      • So, would you rather participants having a Linux or Win machine?

        • Windows, but Linux is totally fine! Won't be any difference when we do the course.

        See you there. =)

          Fantastic! :)
          See you on Saturday!

  • is there any discount for 2 ppl?

    • Sorry! No bulk discounts unfortunately.

Is this class suitable for 11 year old?

    • I haven't held a class with participants that young, but I always say, if you can use a keyboard and mouse, you can learn to code!

I do touch on some basic finance terms like revenue, expenses, and profit.
The case study at the end is about arbitrage, but I explain what that is at the start of the course, and I do pride myself on being able to explain complex things in simple terms.

So if those concepts sound alright, then I think it'll be suitable for an 11 year old.

Just a heads up you may need to make sure they are accompanied by a guardian and / or arrange for the instructors to get working with children licenses. Not too sure about the exact rules.

        • Thank-you!!!
          I hadn't thought about that.

          Time to get it renewed.
