Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm viewing on mobile via flaky internet connection but it looks like the $49 minimum purchase for free shipping with Prime is currently gone.

Eg 2 gallons of Elmer's glue (probably worthy of a seperate bargain https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B002FTOBZE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i… )

Edit: terms and conditions thanks to Selenium. "Limited time only" so get in quick

When I first signed up for Prime I thought the same as you - that it will be easy to find $50 worth of stuff anytime I want to place an order and so free shipping for orders over $49 will be almost as good as free shipping for orders of any value.

In practice I found that I rapidly bought everything I was in any hurry for and now have tons of things on watch lists waiting for a particularly good deal to turn up. I'll often find something has dropped to a really great price only to realise that there's just nothing else worth purchasing with it to make up the $49 required for free shipping.

The minimum spend is especially annoying given that there doesn't seem to be much of a reason for it - almost everything seems to end up shipping separately anyway so it's not like Amazon is saving money by combining items into a single shipment.

      • it sounds a bit like club catch — pay $69 a year but your order minimum is still $45 to qualify for free shipping, and only on eligible "club catch" logo items

  • Where does gst fit in all this nowadays?

    • GST is included in all the prices listed on Amazon's AU site.

Thank you! I just ordered a book which wasn’t sent yet. Cancelled and reordered. Saved $14!
    It all helps.

This is good, I can't be bothered with Amazon Australia. Everything I want is WAY overpriced by their Australian sellers, heck fishpond is seeming cheaper now. I've let $20 and $30 vouchers go because they were Australia Amazon only because it was still cheaper internationally in Amazon global or eBay.

    Tha is for the post!

  • What do people normally get from the US amazon?

  • this is great, saved a whole bunch of money that i would've spent on random crap just to make up the $49 spend. I had a $29 indoor hdtv antennae sitting in my cart for the longest time and now i've ordered it. Any idea when this will end?

  • do you guys all have Prime, is it worth it? $59 per year, including video and music streaming seems even cheaper than Spotify Premium which is $9.9 per month but you only get music…

i suspect a lot of prime members on this site are taking advantage of the approx 50% discount on membership with the amex deal thats comes around just in time for most of us! That makes it about $30 pa which is great value- esp with prime video as well as all the free shipping and some of the black friday deals..

      • hopefully that amex promo shows up again shortly…

      • Its come back? I only saw it once last year and my membership's already renewed…

      It's definitely worth it.

Note the song service is cut down from the full Amazon Music service - it "only" has 2 million songs so it's still pretty good and I use it often.

Video service is excellent and free shipping is great.

    • It's worth it for Prime video alone imo. Their original shows are a much better quality than netflix.

  • It tells me buy more $7 to get items for free (both items eligible for free delivery)! Expired?

    • Showing as free delivery for me still on an item below $49? Are your items definitely eligible for free Amazon Prime shipping?

  • How can I get Fire Stick 4K to ship to Australia from Amazon US?

    • You can't directly through Amazon. You'd need to go through a 3rd party, which means $$$. Some sell them on ebay/gumtree for a marked up price. The 4K firestick isn't out in Australia yet. Also note there are some "issues" with it (I have one) that require some tech skills to overcome. The Amazon Prime app it comes with will not work here (it may in the future, but not now). There is something called "sideloading" of apps that you can do instead. Google "sideload firestick apps" for more info. Netflix works OK though. Youtube and Spotify and others as well. There isn't much 4K content at the moment, but it's good for the future to get this and not the regular firestick I think.

      • If this is a phone app you can only install if you're in the USA - but still works in Australia AFTER it's been installed… then I wouldn't risk sideloading it. It could have anything nasty added into it. Apps that will install over a VPN are exactly the ones I would add rogue code to - in the hope of catching people who don't know it's easy to circumvent…

Just install a VPN on your phone. 'Tunnelbear' on Android is dead easy to use. Open it, click on a USA node, the bear growls. Open playstore, search for the app and download/install. Then go back to Tunnelbear and turn it off.

Note: Sometimes I have to restart my phone before activating Tunnelbear. I think it has something to do with already have Google Playstore open that day, so it's still in memory as me not being in the USA - and refuses to find USA-only apps. So if you can't find the app, or it refuses to install saying you're in Australia, just restart the phone, open Tunnelbear and set it to USA, THEN open playstore and search again.

  • Woohoo cheap insulated water bottles!

        • Thanks. Now I am indecisive as to whether I have to get the Congito or the Go Active Flex. I have two Thermus flasks for hot drinks, so I might go for the Go Active. Thanks for the links.

They are horrible. I had a package that needed to be signed on delivery dumped on the top of our workplace letterbox. Luckily we have honest work-neighbours who picked it up and brought it to our office.

  • how long i wonder

  • Absolutely worst delivery service ever encountered. No option to leave unattended, no option to deliver to a nearby post office or pharmacy, they tell you to go into their portal and arrange for delivery, only for the platform to ask not just for the tracking ID provided, but forcing you to sign up (twice), only to ask for an 'InfoNotice number'. UPS is run by complete and utter idiots.

  • The items I want don’t get free shipping shown even though they are Prime search results. Anyone know if its all Prime items or selected?

  • I just spoke to their live chat due to another issue and I was relayed that this offer ends December 10th. This would be valid during Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales :D

  • So I was looking for baby jogger city tour 2 stroller which is available in amazin US store (by changing location in amazon app). Will it be free delivery as well? I cant find the item through amazon AU site. THanks.

    • No - it's only items available in the AU store.

If I've found the correct item, it looks like shipping is $88.48
