If you missed out on the sphero, then this may be a good alternative for your kids to code and build a robot.

Specs:

Enjoy learning about programming, electronics and robotics in a fun interactive way. Inspired by Scratch coding, mBot is an easy-to-assemble gadget with Bluetooth connectivity.

Piece together the 38 pieces and use the colour-coded RJ25 ports to begin programming straight away. The mechanical body of the mBot is compatible with most Lego parts, while the electronic sections are based on the Arduino open-source ecosystem.

The drag-and-drop software provides an intuitive way for kids to learn programming. Soon you'll be able to control the robot and see it carry out small tasks. Transform your mBot into an obstacle-avoidance car, line-following vehicle or remote control car. You can also use mBot to play multiple games like balloon bursting game, soccer playing, sumo and more.

  • Thanks OP
    Xmas gift is sorted

  • Their website is hopeless. Tried several times to pay for this and it kept bombing out, both by CC and paypal

    • Same here

    • Just did my order a minute ago and it went through. Only waited around 10-15 seconds for the confirmation page to appear.

      • It fails when paypal tries to send the token back to the website

        • I did my order by CC. Aust Geo do have a big 'sorry our website is very busy' banner up at the moment. Maybe try a little later. I hope you can get what you are after. I managed to get 2 of the mBots for both my kids for xmas. Been keeping an eye out for them for ages so very happy.

    • Ordered, website worked fine using PayPal

Edit: I did get 3 order confirmation emails, and the an email of “latest reviews” that simply said “No RSS items found”

So maybe the store’s owners need to show it a bit of love.

  • 5% cashback instore using CashRewards too, not sure if they are on ShopBack, certainly looks like a nice kit for my kids to learn some new logic skills.

  • +1

Few other good deals on there as well.

Just picked up these for the kids, $50 from $250

FYI some public libraries (e.g. yarra plenty, whitehorse, kingston etc.) are offering free courses on mBot coding and makerspace.

  • Wow, I have just received it. Very pleased with their handling.
