Flying SYD to MEL for Australian Open. In-Laws Refuse to Fly Jetstar or Tiger. Any Alternative Cheap Flights?

So, I have in-laws that refuse to go with Tiger and Jetstar, because of them charging for luggage or something like that. So is there any way to get cheaper tickets from Sydney? Besides looking at Skyscanner?

Tell them to drive and then you can take Jetstar at will.

Book them on Tiger or Jetstar and tell them you booked with Qantas.

Ahahaha I love this, turning up at the Jetstar terminal…… "oops did i say Qantas? sorry"

Do the in-laws have any frequent flyer points?

  • +5

    Bus. That will learn 'em.

    Can they sail and swim?

accomodation will kill your wallet during the Aus Open in the CBD

    • Russian Accent

Can stay with me. Have very large bed, many plenty room.

  • Book early. aka book asap

  • Use Qantas points if you have them

Don't see a problem here. Tiger/Jetstar + 20KG would be slightly cheaper than Qantas/Virgin especially during the Australian Open.
    SYD-MEL 14 JAN ~ $115 incl bags on Jetstar/Tiger vs ~ $120-140 on Qantas/Virgin.

    Why is this your problem?

They want to go with qantas then they can pay. Not your issue

  • Flyer points, credit cards that include flights or flight credits, suck it up and pay full price lol

Can't think of other alternatives, unless you want to drive…

Sorry, but your in-laws sound like unreasonable pricks.

Their reasoning for not wanting to fly Jetstar and Tiger doesn't make sense when the total amount payable including luggage is still likely to be less than the total of Qantas or Virgin.

It would be a different (and possibly more understandable) story if they preferred to fly the premium airlines because they're elderly and can't walk the extra distance by themselves to the budget terminals etc.

    • Elderly people can still walk.

If only it was that simple.

Just recently, prior to Terminal 4 opening, it was quite a walk to the Jetstar terminal in Melbourne.

Idk op sounds like all he focuses on is $

Perhaps it’s because of all the canceled flights with tiger or delayed flights with Jetstar?

      • Yes, delays and cancellations are things I keep in mind. I'd go with Qantas or Virgin if I need to be somewhere on time. It's still no guarantee, but I try maximise my chances.

If I have plenty of time, then it's whatever is cheapest.

Would h8 to be the concierge service for my in-laws .

    OP grow some balls !

  • jeez they can't handle a little extra baggage charge with tiger or jetstar? it seriously isn't that much, and still cheaper than quantas.

    • It's also a few days for the Aus Open. How much luggage will they really need?

      • Exactly! Just bring a few of changes of clothes as carry on.

  • +1

Did you know about this baggage when you got married?

    • He paid extra for that baggage!

    Greyhound or xpt train

  • Why?
Tell them to pay for your ticket too if that’s the case!!

  • tell em my way or drive the highway

  • If you refuse to fly budget airlines then you pay the normal price.
Full service airlines dont compete with budget airlines in price - FULL STOP

  • Why are you paying?

If you're not paying, then find them the most expensive seats possible, with free luggage of course.

  • Don't know if you've flown through the cheaper airlines before but they are trash! I guess you offered to pay for the in-laws but now looking for the cheapest option. Sounds like you probably shouldn't have done that if you're so worried about the cost… It's not like it's a huge expense anyway, only around $100 or so each.

    Train.

  • Put them on Countrylink

  • It's quite hot during Australia Open. They won't be needing to bring thick clothes

  • Haha, I look forward to the next thread 'inlaws want to go to Aus open mens final, but tickets are more than $35. What should I do?'

  • train, but its a short flight, about 1.5 hours. I also hate jetstar and tiger, but i pay extra and earn points for qantas. if you want to save, just take jetstar or tiger, its like a bus ride in the air, lol.
