Literally did a Shoey out of one of these bad boys after the grand final last Sat.. Bought for a single gym sesh, repurposed as a celebratory goblet.

    The proof: http://tinyimg.io/i/ap4dWIv.jpeg

Next time try a used shoe belonging to someone else for increased reprehensibility and significantly greater social media impact.

did you do a full course meal for the Grand Final or do you just not do your dishes?
        (replied to wrong comment)

He did a Shoey, that should give you your answer.

"With it's fabric tab for easy slip-on, lace up style, mesh-like panels and padded backing and tongue, you'll be wearing this more than just for exercise."

Did you wear it around your neck after the shoey?

        Nope. Bin.

Anyone who undeadstocks these bad boys are in for a bad time, resale is gonna be through the roof.

Save $5 on shoes, spend $1000 on podiatry fees, orthotics, and orhopaedic shoes later on. LOL

    • +2

      Spotted the podiatrist!

      • No, thank god no. Rather the lawyer who deals with the outcome of bad choices made and people who do not want to take responsibility for their choices but instead expect a big cheque from a company.

    • -1

Yes because 'everyone' who buys cheap shoes is going to have foot problems when they're older.

Jeez some people spout some shit on here.

      • +10

Of course not everybody - there are always exceptions. But you would be surprised how many people do develop one or more foot problems.
And there is no question that bad quality shoes significantly increase the risk of injury, both long term and short term.
At $5 Big W still makes a lot of profit. Can you imagine how much it costs to make them? Do you think they use high quality materials?
Buy a pair and take the sole apart - then take one of your old sneakers (Nike, Asics, NB, Mizuno etc.) and cut their sole - observe the difference.
Ask the people on here who actually run if they ever would want to run in something like this - there is your answer!

By the way: are we playing the negging game due to not wanting to hear the inconcvenient truth? LOL!

    • +3

I spent a small fortune on orthotics and podiatrist visits for a foot/knee problem. It just kept getting worse. The fix? Get rid of the orthotics, stop going to the podiatrist and buy bog standard, flat shoes (Dunlop Green Flash type basic).

Everyone's feet are different, expensive shoes and cheap shoes can be good or bad and even podiatrists can get it wrong, so why should people follow the opinion of a lawyer that knows nothing about the feet of anyone reading it?

      • Because as you said, there are good and bad podiatrists and yes, they can get it wrong. It does not mean there is nothing wrong with your feet. If flat shoes solve the issue, that is typical of a problem.
Yes, lawyer know but (a) in the past used to work in this field and (b) still have plenty of clients in this field.
I do not expect you to believe but do not let common sense fly out of the window just to save a few dollars.
I mean, do you expect working quality and the chemicals the materials are treated with to be as rigorously monitored as those of other, branded shoes who have a lot more to lose.
It is a bad like saying the quality of VW Touareg is the same as that of a Great Wall. Better quality and materials do have their price.
Why would argue it is different for shoes?
        They are your feet.

P.S.: By the way: in your story, ever though why you had the foot problem in the first place? You do not mention having been recommended and tried better shoes, maybe rocker sole ones offloading some pain. Have you got limited movement range? Can you follow through? Arthritis in the toes? Limited ball padding? So many things that should have been looked at and then tried which from your limited info they have not.
You know, people buy orthotics at rural fairs and then wonder why they get pain. Myabe you went to a very bad or incompetent podiatrist or maybe it was just a nurse cutting nails? Who knows?!

        • Typical lawyer, you do know that you're on OzBargain and aren't being paid by the hour for writing replies don't you? :)

It is a bad like saying the quality of VW Touareg is the same as that of a Great Wall

Absolutely, but they are both vehicles that have their place. You certainly can't expect a Great Wall to handle the stuff a Touareg can, but what you said in your original comment was essentially a blanket statement that the shoe equivalent of the Great Wall would result in problems if you wear them. That's a bold claim.

          They are your feet.

Yes, so people should know what is appropriate for them.

I know the likely cause of my foot problems (they were actually more postural and included knee, hip and back), though one of WA's leading orthopedic surgeons and an associated podiatrist still managed not to sort it. They addressed a few symptoms, but not the fundamentals. I eventually fixed it myself when I noticed that during the warmer months when I'd walk around at the weekend with no shoes on I'd be pain free by Sunday evening. Switched to very flat shoes with very thin soles (including the daft looking toe shoe thingies) and after a year or so everything was good. I'm now able to wear pretty much anything again after strengthening the right muscles by wearing cheap shoes for that time.

          • @banana365: Well, if you have a serious accident with a great wall as opposed to a Touareg, you will suffer injuries, or in worst scenario death while in a VW Touareg you are relatively safe. A friend of mine hit a tree at 200kmh in one, only injury was little finger on the left hand. If that happened in a Great Wall, he would be dad. Chinese cars look great but are made of inferior materials which is reflected in cheaper price.
Of course Great Wall improves quality but slowly and then the cars also increase in price to reflect the better materials and technology in their cars.

            https://www.ancap.com.au/safety-ratings/great-wall-motors/st…

            Same with shoes.

Re your problem: if it took a year, it was not the shoes that fixed it. If you believe it is falt shoes, try altra shoe who are zero drop and have a high stack and good cushioning as well as space for foot splay to simulate barefoot walking.
Re knee, hip, and back - shoes with extra cushioning should help.

Has anybody ever measured your leg length and maybe built up your shoes? A few mm differences can cause the problems you describe.

            • @Lysander: You're not great with analogies nor medical advice.

              • @banana365: That's your opinion and you are entitled to it but the success of the analogy making in court says you are wrong.
In fact, the analogy is very good as in both cases differences originate from materials, and quality of work.

Plus, maybe check out what I said instead of dismissing it outright - you will find that what I saying is valid and true.
Easy enough for you to google Altra shoes and zero drop shoes, benefits, and applications.

What have you got to lose other than 1 minute of your time?

Do what you like - they are your feet, and you have to live with all the consequences of your actions.

                Have a nice weekend.

            • @Lysander: "Chinese cars" really? Going back to shoes… Where are the nike, adidas, etc made. In Broadmeadows, Penrith? No mate, in f… china!!! Staying with the "made in china" theme for a moment, A friend on the "inside" of the mobile phone industry told me the $1500-$2000 iphone costs $170-$200 to make by foxconn IN CHINA. Yet we are happy to denegrade chinese goods while looking at our chinese iphone and gettng food from the samsung chinese fridge. Hopocrisy mate.

              • @gomelbcityfc: First, my Samsung is made in South Korea - it is a Korean company after all.
And of course not all Chinese stuff is bad - if proper materials are used it is fine.
None of my shoes is made in China: Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia, UK, US, and Germany.
For example, NB still produce in the US and the UK and the shoes are marked accordingly. Happy to buy $10 extra for that.
So, maybe calm down and be a bit more selective when shouting hypocrisy.

By the way, the FOXCONN working conditions are one of the reasons I would never buy Apple.
And you know that Foxconn produces for Apple is not a secret but generally known - no mate im industry needed. Maybe watch some of the documentaries about them on Youtube.

    • I don't think you'll get much mileage out of these at all to get feet problems unless you bulk buy. The soles look paper thin. Though people who actually exercise probably wouldn't consider them anyway.

      • So, I just bought some and took them apart. You are right, very thin soles, no cushioning whatsoever. They look OK but that is really the only thing. Maybe suitable as inside house shoes/chew toy for the dog but I would not give them to any of my family members (assuming you care about them or like them that is - otherwise it would be a great gift! ;-))
I am going to give those to one of my clients now as demonstration object.

        Have a nice weekend everyone.

        • No, problem. Just buy these $2 soles from kmart:

          https://www.kmart.com.au/product/footcare-masuer-foam-latex-…

          Problem solved.

          • @mrvaluepack: Soles, not insoles. There is a difference. When I speak about cushioning I do not mean inside but in the midsole construction.
Plus, these insoles have the same quality as the shoes. I wonder how bad+bad = good but again, up to everyone what they want to do to their feet.
Look at Sorbothane insoles - you will see and feel (if you try them) the difference.
Much better quality, longer lasting and hence produce less rubbish for the environment.

    • +1

We still talking about shoes right?

    • Yep, I'm waiting on bargains for size 17 shoes (seriously). Amazon AU sometimes have decent prices on them, but as few companies even make up to that size, bargains are rare.

  • B Athletic

    Not fit for A(ne)one

  • i feel guilty from buying my 60 bucks ASICS now…

  • Bought 2 pairs. Thank OP. Im very happy with $10 I paid. I have some good insoles lying around so will chuck them in and should be all good.

BTW, paid $170 for my new balance 360v8 and after 4 months, a hole developed in the "superior quality" mesh outer. Took a bit of convincing at Rebel but they changed the over for me. They are sitting in the garage waiting for my OS holiday next year.
