      So its core functions are likely disabled here. Why on earth are they selling this?

        Not 'likely disabled' - you shouldn't assume that. It is just a warning, as some people may take it to China or other countries and find out all the functionality is restricted there. It may work well in Australia - the only way to know is asking Google directly, or testing it.
        That's why on earth they sell it.

          @superveggies: It clearly says may not support smart home control - why would I be wrong it assuming it wouldn't work?

  Just spoke to Google Help about American Nests in Australia:

  'About the query you have with Google Nest Hub, all features of your device that works in USA should also work when you're in Australia except for one feature. And that feature that won't work in Australia is the "celebrity voice" feature. It's a feature wherein users in USA can change their Google Assistant's voice to either John Legend's voice or Issa Rae's voice. You can still enjoy the Google Nest device you have since there's not much difference when using it in USA and when using it in AU.'

  tl;dr It will work the same.
