  • Bright enough to illuminate a roof space where I have storage?

    • +1

enough to see where you are going? only just. I have 2x 50lumen lights in a shed thats say 3mx3m, thats enough for me to look for tools etc and only just enough to work in there.

      • Yeah just to be able to stick my head up to see what is there and move bits around. The area is about 1.7m by 2.4m. Just thought having a solar panel outside feeding this light and using the motion sensor would make a decent roof space light.

  • As a solar/sensor light I would assume you'd mount it outside the shed. So why does the catalogue picture show it mounted inside, above a pegboard…?

    • 😂

    • I don't find anything wrong with this setup. The sensor light lights up once you step inside the shed for better visibility in the dark room.
I assume the solar panel is mounted on the roof of the shed.

      • And as soon as you stop moving, the room goes dark…?

        • depend on how long you stop moving

    • +3

      2.3m connection cable

You mount the solar panel outdoors.

    • the solar panel is separate unit

      • Yeah, I assumed that. I just built a shed and the light switch is right at the door when you walk in. Still not sure why you'd need a sensor light…

        • +1

Perhaps if you currently have a shed without a light?

          • @Gaz1: Of if your shed isn't powered

        • +4

So you had mains power installed by an electrician, paid for wiring to shed, wiring in shed, switch, light fitting & labour… at what cost? $15??

That is the preferred option of course, along with power points, if you want to really do things in your shed at night.

But many sheds have no expensive electrical wiring & may be a long way from it, making installation very expensive. Some are used to store things, more than to do things in. Some are tiny, some are rarely used. And some people rent - meaning installation is not an option.

This is a simple cheap alternative to paying an electrician lots of $$$. This is a reliable light (I've used these for 2 years). The other alternative is often to use a torch.

          Why a sensor light?
You can manually switch this light on/off. But I wouldn't recommend it as the switch probably won't last too long.
The sensor operates from a few metres away.
It automatically turns on when you enter carrying things at night.
Light remains on while you are in range of sensor. Remains on after last movement detected.
          That's pretty handy.

I have these outside & inside my front door. They turn on when I arrive at night. Work great!

Wiring in light fittings was far more expensive than $15 each!! It requires 2 electricians to feed the cables. That's an expensive job, requiring access to roof.

The current position of the light switch is behind the front door (can't be relocated due to windows) - pretty inconvenient as had to open door, then close door before could turn on light. And that light was only outside door… There was no light available inside until you reached the kitchen (poor design!).

Also have had one in kitchen for 2 years - motion sensor is so handy. Now usually only turn on light to cook a meal. So can go from outside to kitchen in light, without having to touch a switch.

So I'm pleased the lights come on automatically as I walk / carry things at night.
The huge savings in installation cost is a bonus😉

          • @INFIDEL: I also love them as a cheap lighting option in the yacht. Hang the panel out the hatch wire it and stick the light to a wall problem solved. Got a few strings of solar fairy lights already doing that job but this will be much stronger.

  • Does anyone know how long the light stays on once motion is detected?

    • +1

Installed 3 from previous 2 Aldi sales. So model may not be exactly the same.

At least 90s after last movement stops.

      • Perfect thanks. With my comment above do you think it would be bright enough to illuminate a roof space aprox 1.7m x 2.4m?

        • +2

These are pretty bright. Lights small kitchen enough to make a drink at night. So that's a bigger area than you require.

Light doesn't go out if you move. Sensor picks up movement in next room.

Have 2 inside house (kitchen & inside entrance) & 1 outside under eave above front door - with cables extended to panels on roof.
So when return home at night, doorway & then inside entrance is lit up.

Handy lights & sensitive to movement.

But found light is not waterproof - had outside & led head filled with water & adjustment bolt rusted.

          • @INFIDEL: Thanks for the info!

My light will be inside the roof so as long as the solar panel holds up that will be fine.

            • +2

@iShibby: I have used these many times a day, almost every day for 2 years - very happy with them.

Panels show no issues & work after 2 years. Battery holds good charge.

I used to review Aldi electronics. This is a rare Aldi product I couldn't fault (as long as light is not outside unprotected from weather).

Removed the panel on 1 & connected to USB power - worked great.

Installed 1 in ensuite - too bright & woke me up if went in at night🌛

            • @iShibby: if your roof temperature too high, maybe not good for the lithium

      • I assume it lights up on movement even on broad day light ?

        • +1

No - unless area is dark. Sensor turns off light if adequate level. Ensures battery is available for night use.

There is a 3 position switch (off / sensor on / manual on). I leave in sensor on position. Switch is weakest link in these.

      • Previous 2 models were 10 led units, these are 12 led with a different head (was oval). So may be some differences in light output & operation.
        Will grab one to test.

  • Cool, I need a new one of these lights for the kids playfort, they broke the solar panel of the previous one.

  • I'm guessing Bunnings will drop the price on their equivalent to $39.99 when this goes on special:
    www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-1250w-12l-stainless-wet-and-dry-va…
    (current price $49.98)

(not sure if they have a solar shed light)

  • Also in current catalog sale -
Solar Twin Head Security Light $29.99.
Weatherproof, adjustable lux, should be good for paths etc.

  • 40 lumens is so dim

    • Last 2 years models (no lumens stated) were quite bright. Good enough to adequately light room to make a hot drink at night.

This model has a different light head (different shape & 12 led against previous 10 led) on same looking base, so specs & performance may have changed.

Can always test & return within 60 days.

    • does lumens adds up ?

      maybe 40 lm per led x 12 ?

      • Going by past models, I doubt these are only 40Lm
Buy, try, return - the Aldi way.

  • -1

Super bright LEDs? 35-40 lumen output?
    Pffff..
