Do you know if there's an irremovable watermark on Xiaomi dash cams? (That always bugs me)

    • +1

Yeah mine has the little orange logo in the corner. I can tolerate it but I'd rather it not be there!

      • +11

        Got this from dashcamtalk.com
Move the file to the root folder of your SD card and the watermark will be removed.
Only works on the 70mai and not the 70mai Pro. https://gofile.io/?c=lLC6Zq

          Thanks I'll check that out!

Better to use cashback and buy from Amazon.

Lithium ion batteries are shit for dashcams (in Australia). Stick with something that uses a capacitor.

    • +1

      what is the difference?

and what other cameras is recommended?

I vouch for the Blueskysea too. Have two for a while now, front and rear, both excellent.

          • @peanut48: Me to got it on the same deal. Also you can get from ali express if you can wait a few weeks for delivery. Only issue i have is wifi connection to my phone is a bit buggy. Need to turn wifi on/off seems to fix it.

        • +1

          Do they support parking mode?

Ignore me, it says it has parking mode

        • How does this compare to the Viofo A129 which seems to be raved a lot on OB?

          • +1

@DevlicK: I have both. Image quality are similar. The WiFi on the 70mai is way better. The app is more responsive. The A129 Duo does come with the rear cam and has built in GPS. I paid $39 for the 70mai (D01) and $185 for the Viofo A129 Duo IR.

            • @theUnderdog: What about the Blueskysea?

              • @DevlicK: I bought that for my dad. I decided not to get the 70mai as he lives in armer QLD. He is happy with it so far

    • One of the reviewers stated that he used this dashcam in Texas during summer and it held up very well during that time. I am not sure if the cumulative effect of extreme temperature and sunlight will degrade the camera over the long term.

    • *because of the heat

Great price, great dash cam - I've got a bunch of these over different cars and love them! No issues with battery either, and cars are both left in full NSW sun all day.

Looks like a BlackVue in shape. Quality the same as BlackVue?

    • +10

Price is the same as BlackVue?

  • Worth paying more for the pro version?

    • +1

      IMO it is.

I had an issue where if I started the ignition at the wrong time, the dashcam wouldn't turn on and I wouldn't know unless I was paying attention. Similar issues with other people online.
I had to rig up a power delay unit to avoid this.

Other dashcams I used didn't have this problem.
The pro uses constant power so doesn't suffer from this.

Thanks OP. Just purchased a new car and was wanting one of these. Grabbed off eBay with POLLEN20.

    • +1

      No worries. Enjoy!

  • I had this in my car for quite some time, quality of video was fairly good - what I did find annoying was date and time would reset and recorded videos did not display the correct date and time stamp. Eventually my mic packed it in, but recorded videos were fine. I ended up getting a Garmin dash cam with ebay 15% sale - be it more expensive it is more reliable too…. so far

  • I am confused… Open shop back search found $56.99 from Xiao mi seller.
    Same 70mai model.

  • Will it work with my own USB Cable and in car USB charger? So that I can use the cam and charge my phone at the same time.

    • yes, if you have a long enough usb cable.

If you're just referring to a double usb cig lighter plug. it will work fine.

      • Thanks found the spec it comes with it own USB charger.

This or Blueskysea? Except battery or super capacitor, I will have the car in garage, which is have better picture?

EDIT: Anyway Thanks bought Xiaomi from eBay.

        • +2

I have the Xiaomi personally and bought the Blueskysea for my parents. Both are very similar and I haven't had any issues parking with the Xiaomi in the sun.

        • Here is a good comparison https://youtu.be/AgeekTLh64Q

  • Recommendations on a memory card for this unit?

    • ive got the old version and any the standard lexar SD card (from officeworks) has worked fine for almost 2 years in the perth sun.

How do you install and fit dashcams? Is it easy as I'm assuming you have to run the wire to behind the glove box?

    • It's honestly up to you how far you go with it IMO. You can plug it into your 12v socket and just hide the cable as best you can. I used a fuse tap and a 12v plug and then hid the cable in the roof lining and down one of the a pillars.

  • If I just plug this into the the 12V socket (Which I assume my car has, car manual says nothing about the socket even though its there) will it record when my car is parked?

    • Only if your car supplies power to the 12V socket while it's parked. Mine doesn't.

      • So the battery essentially starts draining the moment the car is turned off and the dashcam will eventually turn off?? How many minutes does it last? 20min or so?

      • +2

Rewire the fuse of you 12v cigarette to a slot that's constantly on

  • Is there any difference to this one with free shipping for those without prime? https://www.amazon.com.au/Xiaomi-70mai-Degree-Wireless-Camer…

  • how easy is it to install one of these yourself without wires floating around in the car? Do you need to pull apart the roof padding to install these to hide the wires?

  • confused. xiaomi or blueskysea?

    • From what I've been reading for a little extra money the blueskyea is better value for the capacitor, but overall both are great choices.

I think I'm gonna get the blueskyea for the rear of my car, and the VIOFO A119 V3 for the front

      • Why don't you get a dual channel cam ie A129 Duo?

The Blueskysea wins over the 70mai on auto focus but both area great

  • +1

Thanks OP. Bought one from amazon. I been using it for about 2 years now and never had any issue. i tried VIOFO A119 V2 and that was gone faulty in 6 months and had to return to overseas seller which was not easy and lost international postage cost.

  • Can anybody please comment what happens if we leave this in the car parked in the sun for entire day, 5 days a week? Thanks.

    • I too would like to know. I live in Darwin and staff carpark is in direct sunlight.

      • I just went with the VIOFO A119 V2 with the capacitor because I have never come back to a cool parked car in Darwin.

  • +1

Thanks OP. The original Amazon link you posted was out of stock so I picked it up using this link for $56.99
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07GQFZFLM/ref=ppx_od_d…

    • I believe this is the 1s.

      • 1s is cheaper version?

      • From image sensor spec, this listing seems to have 1 S sensor but not CPU version? Not sure which one is incorrect?

  • Hmm showing as $59.99 for me on ebay…?

    • Ebay seller jacked it unfortunately. Was $68.99 then $69.99, $72.99, $74.99 and now $76.99 before 20% discount.

Not sure if its correct but the above link is selling for $48.30.

    • Cheaper price. International version maybe?

    • +1

Yeah that looks like the Chinese version (Chinese text on the front of the camera instead of 70mai) in saying that, I have the Chinese version and you can flash it to English with not too much mucking about.

    • Postage makes you lose the ~$10 saving on this one.
      A$16.99

  • How does this compare to a transcend 200?

  • Received from eBay today.

  • Testing it today, the video quality isn't that clear, even my old G1W is better, the only problem with G1W is sometime it will stop recording when the card was full and it won't auto delete the oldest.

Do I need to clean the len? For some reason those review on youtube for Xiaomi looks better.

  • You did take the plastic off the lens right? All of mine are super clear.

    • You did take the plastic off the lens right? All of mine are super clear.

The plastic that covered my len is a black one not clear one. I bought it from the eBay seller not Amazon. Wondering whether it is genuine.

  • Price on Amazon showing $108 now.
