Had to share with fellow ozbargainers. You need to purchase the specific item in the link as only some of the wireless 1 deals are currently 10% off applied at checkout ($1298 - 10% = $1168.20). Then stack it with the ebay 15% off coupon ‘PLAYNOW’ to get it for $992.97. I think ive covered everything :)

  • If anyone else is thinking of buying this just to add a single camera to your existing ecosystem and then reselling it (as a kit with 2 cameras), keep in mind that the cameras are not backwards compatible with earlier hubs. I assumed they were but the review I watched told me otherwise.

They look much better than the Arlo Pro 2, but hard to justify if you already have a system…

  • The new Arlo subscriptions confuse me nowadays… does it still come with free 7 days of recording with these?

I have an Arlo Pro 2 and doubt I'll upgrade - maybe I'll add Arlo Pro 3 1440p cameras but given the big hitting features like CVR don't seem to ever work for me, I'll just stick with the basics.

I believe the Arlo Ultras don’t cloud back up if you have no subscription, only to the microSD. However I could be wrong.

Once the 1 year included subscription runs out for the ultras, it’s $10 p/m to have the same subscription.

I think this is the same with the Pro 3’s, except you only get 3 months included free.

      • I am considering getting something like this but if it doesn't have a ongoing subscription (not just 1 year for eg), is it worth the $992 outlay?

      • So it's quite different to the old Arlo Pro/Pro 2 which came with 1 week recording to the cloud for all cameras forever?

        • +5

Yes, i bought the utra's for the quality and smarts but wish i got the Pro 2's. They are paper weights without the subscription as they will not record or even notify you of any movement. All you can do is look at them live. Pretty crappy when you cant even get basic functions for $1k without paying more per month!

Also im not the happiest with the Arlo solution in general. Sometimes it will notify/record and other times it wont e.g notified/recording of a delivery but then get home and find a missed delivery that i had no notification/recording for that van rocking up, driver getting out and knocking/leaving a note.

The other day their notifications were down for 3 days, still recorded but noone was getting notifications. Its just a flakey system and for the price i expected better. Yes the video quality is good but pointless if it chooses not to pickup a person breaking into your house.

Notifications arent also real time, had them as long as 30-45mins after the event. The person will be long gone with half your house by then before you can get on the microphone or set off the siren.

The smarts you pay for has recognised my car as an animal, kids as animals (they kid of are :) ). Smart zones dont really work properly. Set up a smart zone only hoping to get notifications/recordings of things in that area and you will still get them for things out, just 'less' apparently. so if the cameras are picking up a road or anything then its annoying.

At least with the Pro 2's i would have had decent recording but not paying per month just to allow them to work….

@worthy1: I hear where you're coming from and it makes me think they just did everything they can to make Arlo sound fantastic for spin off and then it went downhill from there.

Just want to share my experience with arlo and there devices. I have the arlo pro2 with the doorbell and chime.
My home network is decent and I get 80/40 with ABB.
The cameras worked well enough for the first 8 months. They now have a 2-3 sec delay recording video after the sensor has been triggered. Using the voice to talk through is not reliable and it doesn't make a difference how close it is to the base. There is a delay due to the servers being in Sydney while I'm in WA. So if you're in Sydney the camera would probably be fine and be fairly good.
Since they separated from netgear, they dont seem to have reliable servers located here in Aus. If you decide to get the doorbell as well, it uses SIP and makes a voip phone call to your android/ios device but it hits a server in Ireland. No local servers here in Aus. which means there is a pretty noticeable delay. Also their apps in either eco system has been hit and miss. Their latest issue is absolutely no phone calls from the door bell and the chime doesnt work anymore.
Tried to get support but they have been pretty useless.

Hi, I too have the same issue with the 2-3 second delay for the last few months deeming the cameras pretty useless really.
I'm about to contact arlo for a resolution. What has their response to your issue?

      • +1

I got a response but no solution or acceptance that that actually have a problem. They have a status page for their services and have had no incidents but check their forums and complaint after complaint about the same issue. I just keep getting a follow up every few days just to let me know they are investigating and if I could do simple troubleshooting to see if it helps. Due to it being such a closed system, it makes it even harder to diagnose. I have just been monitoring where the device is talking to over the network and found their servers to be only partially based in Sydney. Oh and even more importantly, they are not using proper secure protacals to protect live streams so if someone really wanted to tap in and see, they could. Their ciphers for their certificate are poorly setup.

Yeah, I have only had the Arlo Baby Monitor and it's terrible so won't touch anything else from these guys. Massive delays between camera and devices even when both on the home network. Drops out all the time and won't reconnect. No way I'd lay out this much cash for their stuff.

I've got Eufy home security cameras and they are reliable other than the motion detection being a bit iffy. And much less of a lag than the Arlo baby monitor we have (but there's still a lag). Our Ring doorbell seems to be best from that perspective.

      • re your baby monitor, mine started playing up quite a bit recently until it just stopped connecting altogether and after some investigating, I found for some reason it had connected to the 2.4Ghz network of one of my other Google Wifi pucks rather than the nearest one. Restarting the baby camera in the app (pulling the power cord won't do it since it's got a battery) as well as restarting my Google Wifi network seemed to fix it and it's now connected to the 5Ghz wifi point nearest.

        • We only have one access point, and have tried restarting, unplugging and everything else.

    • Yeah supports pretty bad. I have the Arlo baby monitor which markets Google Home support but in reality that supports completely broken. Times out and had massive delays not to mention the issues with starting a feed. Long support thread at their forum but little indication it’s being addressed. Interestingly HomeKit seems to work fine which is fortunate as a lot of our gear is Apple, but I’d have loved to use the monitor on our Google Home but getting a video feeds too difficult and it lags so far that I could walk to the other end of the house instead.

Arlo stuff may be ok for recording but I wouldn’t rely on it if real time was important, such as checking who is at the front door.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a huge advocate for the Baby Monitor after comparing it with other baby cameras on the market and having bought others - the video quality on the Arlo Baby is unmatched at the price point, and the app is reasonably full featured. That being said, the voice communication is unusable across all Arlo devices (lag lag lag) and the video feed is a few seconds behind (vs a traditional baby monitor which has a direct connection) but I can forgive those because it's been pretty reliable up to now and the quality of the video footage is solid.

However, recently the Arlo split into it's own new app/etc (when it spun off from Netgear) has broken things like the Google Home Hub support so I can't watch it on there anymore.

    • Have the Pro 2 and it is generally reliable, but battery drain problem seems to haev started in the past month. I recharged a month ago, and less than 2 weeks later needed to charge again. Not good enough. Might contact support soon.

the winds in sydney played havoc to one of my cameras. 524 notifications in 2 hours.

        • Yeah, that is another major issue.

          • @nubzy: Well that's not really an issue as such. Any camera with motion sensors will register false positives with the crazy wind we've been having.

    • Since they separated from netgear

Thanks for sharing. It seems many issues have started since this happened.
I was aware of issues for the Arlo Ultra in development and even in the product after release.
And have more recently heard of issues for the Ultra through feedback here on ozbargain.

That is a real shame as we still own the first model Arlo in Sydney (working fine to this day) and we jumped onboard due to good experiences with Netgear products.

The EUFY brand cameras seem to beat the Arlo 1/2/Pro in most comparison reviews.
The 4K Ultra may have many of the same issues but due to the higher res is not an apples to apples comparison.

When the 4 camera EUFY system was available recently for $800 that would be my pick - but I just missed it.

    • I replaced all my Arlos for Eufys and haven't been disappointed. I am relieved I don't have to change the batteries every 2 or so months. Mine have been running on 6 month charge now and still 3 out of 5 power bars with 100+ video recording notifications

    • Thanks, these look much better than the Arlo range!

    • I bought this camera system. Very impressed so far. Human Detection works fairly well. And the company seem to regularly update the software and add new features.

All recordings are saved to the home base. Recordings continue even if the internet is down (but you won't get notifications until internet is back up).

If anyone is interested in the comparison between the arlo ultra and eufycam, here is a youtube comparison (note it is compared with the Eufy Cam "E" which is just the US version of the Eufycam, the specs are pretty much identical): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWEHtTQq6YE

    • Can also vouch for this system

  • thanks - just ordered!

  • Anyone looking for a cheap and reliable camera only solution. Look into WYZE cam sold on amazon US (the ones in Amazon Australia are fake) they are amazing and the app is comparable to ring

    • What's the battery life like?

i got my 3 alro pro2 for $479 so it was a great price and with price considered, i wont be upgrading until another great deal comes along.
