Google Photos Can't Backup at High Quality

Google Photos is suddenly by default giving me free unlimited storage at original quality until 2020. My concern is it is not allowing me to change settings back to high quality which is what I want, because otherwise if all my backups is at original quality, they're going to start charging me for storage when I no longer have the free original backup in 2020.

Help anyone? Is there a way to disable backup at original quality?

  • Pretty sure they'll give you the choice when the free storage offer finishes to pay to maintain the Original Quality, or store for free in High Quality

  • yes you can. just search for google photo setting in google.
You can also convert all the current original quality backup to high quality although it's one way process (irreversible).

Note: I just did it to my wife's phone setting last week.

  • I know where to set it but the settings are no longer there and displayed instead a message saying its free original quality storage until 2020

  • +1

I think existing orginal quality will remain free - you just can't keep adding more beyond 2020 without paying once you run out of space.

  • What device do you have? Free storage stays at free storage and some devices don't have enough MP to reach the high quality storage quality.

It is also possible to downsize the storage quality through "Recovery Storage". See link below.
