  • Positive experience - waited around 20-30mins but staff were friendly and the food was good (a little salty!)

    Thanks OP & Rashays :)

Even though this is a bargain and proceeds go to charity, I will have to blatantly refuse the hype. It's just a waste of time and effort, a gimmick. a) You stand in line wait half an hour, b) get in wait half an hour for the food, c) half an hour to eat the meal. Also what happens when the restaurant runs out of stock and tells everyone who is standing in line, deals finished. I would have to say no thanks. I went to the Punchbowl one and I saw people queuing up right where the entrance on the upper level. This was at 2.30pm, I see parents lining up as well, go and pick up your kids from school. Do you think this is more important than picking up your kids?

    • "Cool story bro" (or sis in your case) ;-)
Please also tell me how you know parents need to pick up the kids?

      Experience varies!

      a) You stand in line wait half an hour

      Waited 15 minutes

      b) get in wait half an hour for the food

      order taken after 2 minutes
food arrived within another 2 minutes

      c) half an hour to eat the meal

      10 minutes to eat meal

what happens when the restaurant runs out of stock and tells everyone who is standing in line, deals finished.

Friendly staff kept the queue updated. Still available 3 hours later.

Given this is a promotion day, 19 minutes to receive $1 dine in meal at peak time (Noon) was reasonable given the demand.

As for your hyperbole that parents should go and pick up your kids from school
      What's made you the enforcer?

How do you know they have kids?
How do you know those kids have to be picked up by those parents?
Almost 50% of couples now don't have children.

Can't people enjoy a meal without someone thinking / telling them they shouldn't?

Most cultures don't pick up their children from school. Dependency on parents or others is not seen as a positive life lesson😉

      • -2

If you had kids would you let them walk home by themselves not knowing there are sexual predators or rapists or a gunman on the loose? Are you going to let kids as young as 5 years old to walk home from school not knowing what time they will be home or how they will get lost, wouldn't you be worried what might happen? Think about that. And you can't assume couples don't have children because children are being born everyday.

        • That's a whole lot of fears & assumptions!
Facts are better for making sound decisions.

Consider discussing your Parental Anxiety with a trained professional, or your GP. It might help you and your children (assuming you have children).

Maybe their kids catch the bus home? Or ride their push bikes? Or they just don't have kids. You are making quite the assumption about their lives from them simply standing in line for food.

    • +2

      You sound like a hoot!

    • That is the line outside the store. The empty tables are not part of the restaurant.

  • Was getting dinner after work with the missus and not sure if I want to risk a long wait or not. Though, it should be worth it. Then again, it will be rush hour by the time I get there.. Hmm.

  • 4:45 at Merrylands, NSW. There are 50ppl queued up outside and a full restaurant. I turned around and went home for reheats. Looked chaotic.

  • Looks like a 50 strong queue at Lidcombe as well right now

  • ~30 in queue at Harbourside, 5:30.

    • At table and ordered after 20 min, but the queue's a fair bit longer than when I arrived.

    Went back home instead

  • Went to punchbowl, about 100 people in line. Turned around and went to hungry Jack's shake and win ($3 tendercrisp with free survey chips and drink). My time is worth actual money 😂 😂

  • The queue was long in Wetherill Park after 5:15pm and the waiting times were like half an hour min.

    • Have been waiting 30min and am now about half way down the queue. Must be a good 50 ppl still in front of me

Edit, oops, replied to wrong comment, I'm at top ryde

  • The queue at Top Ryde, whhhooooaaaaaa!

    • See you soon :))

      • -1

        see you soon, baby

  • Whats it like in Nundah Brisbane?

  • Any update for Mt Druitt’s queue?

    • +1

At least 50+ people at 7pm. Didn't bother

  • +1

25 min wait for a table, 4 min wait for our order to be taken and 3 min for the food to come out.
    Good deal to me!

    • +1

So that's the update from Toombul, Brisbane…

      • Yep

        • 15, 2 & 2min @Noon😉

          • @INFIDEL: Yeah, I read that.
After work is obviously more popular. The line like doubled while we waited.

30 minute wait ~6:40pm at the Darling Harbour location, got food pretty much immediately after we sat down. Really good for $1.

Went to the Belconnen location at 9:30pm (closing time is 10:30).

Figured this time would be less busy and there were only ~ 10 people in the queue.

However was turned away and told they won't serve any other people so no point queuing …

I hope this is a valid reason for a negative vote.

    • Missing out on a deal is disappointing.

But, arriving late in a long day for a limited Deal is not a valid reason for a Neg Vote - see Voting Guidelines if unsure.

      T&C: While stocks last

Offer had been available at that store for up to 12.5 hours by time you arrived.

It's up to the restaurant manager to decide when the $1 Deal ends. Stock may have run out. Staff may have been exhausted by the large number of orders - so also a H&S issue. Restaurants can limit the number of services per day / evening.

      • Interesting that if you look one comment down, 9:30 pm was not late for the Woden store (across town from Belconnen). Zvyx got immediately seated and served within 5 mins.

The inconsistency between their experience and mine is poor form…

Also it's not an ohs issue, I work 12 hour shifts, 11 hours in I don't stop doing my job and quote ohs issues.

Also I doubt any of them worked 11 hours, likely staggered shifts.

        • T&C: While stocks last
If stock limit was reached at a location - end of Deal at that location.

Whether there is stock available at a particular restaurant location varies. Just because another location (say Perth, or Woden) has stock for the offer clearly has nothing to do with the location you went to. You've been around long enough to know stock, or stock allocation in an offer, can vary by location in Deals.

The inconsistency between their experience and mine is poor form
It is up to the manager at that location to make the decision of what stock is available for this offer, & what is in the best interests of their staff at that location.
          it's not an ohs issue
Strangely, it's not up to you to decide that, & has nothing to do with your own work conditions!

So a decision was made & they turned you (& I assume others) away, at that location.

You seem to be only one complaining they missed out on this popular (but limited) Deal…

If you had arrived earlier at that location or as you say, gone to a different location - you could have got this Deal.
You could have contacted that restaurant to confirm this limited offer was still available. (I did that at my location.)

So not a problem with this Deal!
An invalid Neg under Voting Guidelines - as you seemed to suspect!

Usual… I missed out on Deal by arriving late - so I'll neg Deal. A pointless exercise. An approach unfortunately common on OzBargain!

  • Went to Woden ACT at 6pm, ~30 people queued.
Went back at 9:30pm, immediately seated, served within 5 min. I think it could have been worse, they did a pretty good job!

  • Surprised to still see a queue forming at 10.
30pm, Punchbowl. Guess a late night feed is a must.

Massive props for Rashays for running such a successful promo.

I went to Harbourside around 4pm. 5 people in front of me in the queue.

Seated within 5 mins. Food arrived within 15. Out by 30.

The serving size was on the smaller side but for $1, can't complain. The sauce was delicious and the meal overall was great.

    Well done!

I have to admit I was quite impressed as well with the speed/service/etc, and whilst I hadn't eaten at Rashays in over a year, the way they conducted themselves during what would normally be total chaos should be commended. Usually I would've expected disgruntled staff, sloppy presentation, slow service (during a promo day especially one likely to get OzBargained), but instead they were prompt/quick and genuinely seemed to want to honour the deal for everyone (rather than deliberately being slow so they serve less/etc). It's enough to make me think that whilst I won't pay for the membership/loyalty program, I will at least go back for lunch every now and then.
