Asrock AMD Radeon RX 5700 8GB $468 Delivered @ PC Byte eBay

270
PATRON20

This is the cheapest AMD 5700 going around, UMART has the same one for $1 more but you have to pay for shipping and 1.5% surcharge if you aren't able to access one of their locations.

You are able to flash a 5700XT bios on the card to gain similar performance if you feel adventurous, though as this is a blower/reference design this will run pretty hot. I'd suggest to only do this with the card if you have more than a sufficient amount of cooling/ventilation in your case.

AIB models may have better cooling/temperatures but command an extra $100 premium, by this point you may as well look to purchase a reference 5700xt model. This is the best price to performance 5700(xt) on the market if you are willing to tinker with the bios.

There is plenty of information on youtube/google regarding the bios flash.

Happy gaming.

This is the reference design with a blower style cooler.

The AIB models with axial fans tend to run cooler and quieter in general.

    • I don't know why AMD doesn't just stop making these coolers. I mean seriously there have been cases where even the lowest end plastic aftermarket cooler was still miles better than an AMD stock one, so surely they can do something at least?

      • Blower coolers and good for smaller build with restricted airflow.

    • You say that but there's actually been some AIB models of RX 5700 and 5700 Xt's which run worse than the reference cooler.

This is just an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJU8jKIYtS4

No VRAM cooling, is a big OOF.

I have a reference 5700XT I barely hear it most of the time. They aren't that bad, and some of the AIB are really bad with cooling.

    reference design yuck

Friends, for the money saved you could grab an arctic cooling xtreme 4 which will probably beat most coolers on the market. Or perhaps even a g12 (not sure if it works with xt series).

    • Yeah if you have a generic waterblock / cooler or are deaf this is great performance : $

      • yep, had a generic block from taobao last through quite a few gpus, more than made up for with the money saved from not paying for AIB premiums (especially when the reference PCB is actually really great)

    • Try to get the artic cooling 3 since the 4th one doesn't come with the vrm heat sink. But good point. Also question it will void warranty?
      Thx

No, there's no modification, just replace the stock cooler.

  • what is the nvidia equivalent of this?

    • +1

      Probably around a 2060 Super

      • Is raytracing taking off or not?

        • +1

No, most people don't even know how it makes things any better, nor look into what it is. Also I hear NVIDIA are going to put reshade filters into their upcoming drivers, so I think any buzz around raytracing will die off. And with that, AMD are adding raytracing to their drivers in the not too distant future. In other words, get what is best value price/perf and in your budget. Green or Red team doesn't really matter.

          • @Oofy Doofy: Ray tracing will not die off, sorry mate!
Ray tracing is slowly being integrated into every game. This will eventually be considered as a norm soon

So if you u dont join now… eventually you will

@Ozvalue: I didn't say raytracing would go away, I said the buzz for marketing it will go away. I certainly don't believe it is a feature that decides whether someone will purchase an NVIDIA gpu or not.

            • @Ozvalue: its been a year and we have 5 AAA games with raytracing, and the implementation was awful at release for 2 of them.

              nice.

        • video just released today, definitely not. there's no functional value from the 'rtx' cores until you go for a 2080 super, at minimum. just decide based on traditional fps/dollar.

        • Yes but it's early days so it's only used for one or two effects such as reflections or global illumination in most games.

It will only become more prevalent in games given the aim is to have the entire scene rendered using ray tracing at some point which is computationally speaking a long way off still.

        • Take a look at hardware unboxed's video on this. Just done the other day.

TL;DR is it'll take off, but right now there's 2 games with good implementations (control and metro exodus), and the current RTX cards run them terribly. Just wait for the next gen of RT hardware.

      • According to hardware unboxed, yes. 1 - 3% difference in performance iirc.

AMD drivers ain't bad they patch in so many performance improvements and image sharpening without the performance hit. Honestly I'm over Nvidia better giving the competition a go price and performance and not using GeForce experience trash is a bonus

  • Also the MSI mech for $60 more.

Not sure if it's worthwhile though, next to nothing on that cards VRAM cooling (what I'd be concerned about)
