  • Just got the email too. Awesome. Just need to make sure I keep an eye out for the voucher in the email.

As per last deal, you might need to chase them up for your $5 back https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/477755

    • Thanks for the reminder, have emailed them just now
      Didn’t even realise

      • I emailed them and they said the code is expired so I missed out!

Probably deliberate, they could simply just credit your account with the money post the promo period.

        • They replied and said the codes were sent to my email, yet I can't find anything and they aren't willing to provide the codes to me

          • @blonky: Yep I got the same thing and they said they can't extend the voucher date.

They also kindly said this - don't worry you can benefit from future promotions.

            Great… not!

    • Opened the app this week and it did show a popup saying that because I'm not subscribed to their emails, I need to email their support team.
Two emails later and still no promo codes/credit

  • -7

Maximum 2 weeks to use the $5 “bonus” credit.

    • I don't know about you but I find that extremely easy to use up

    • Why the downvote?? It's still a good deal.

      U can't spend 5 bucks??

    • +2

      Worth mentioning. Quite sneaky.

  • +1

    Spend 15, pay 10 essentially

    • -4

      ooooorrr… get this, spend 10, pay 5.

      • Not really, you're paying $10 to get $15 credit.

        • +1

Yep, 33% off. So hard telling people during the last deal… no no no its 50% off they said :)

          • @Coops1: Can you explain for numpties like me?

I read it as spend $10, get a $5 credit for next spend?

            • @tanniesjunk: Your right….but read the posts above. Your spending $10 of your cold hard cash for $15 of goods. That’s 33% off. Fairly simple for most, but not cchhiillyy :)

              • @Coops1: If you got $5 cash back instead of $5 credit, you would agree it's 50% discount? Because then you would effectively only end up paying $5 for $10 worth of spend.

And if so, it means you're not valuing $5 credit at $5 value, but only at $3.33. (50% vs 33% discount). Why would this be worth so much less?

To illustrate further, take a more extreme cash back, say you get $100 in cash if you spend $10. This is of course a 1000% discount (you got $100 of cash after spending $10 of cash). Now make it credit and you would calculate this to be 91% ($10 cash for $110 of goods). In that case you would value the $100 credit at only $9.10.

                • +1

@aert: You need to make another purchase of at least $5 to use up that credit you've been given. That's why you receive $15 worth of goods but you've paid $10

That's assuming your second transaction is exactly $5. If it's more then the saving is less than 33%

                • @aert: You're not really valuing $5 credit as $3.33, it's still $5 worth of credit. The credit is contingent on a minimum spend of $15 total (and in at least 2 transactions) which is the important part. You cannot spend less than $15 on this app to get the credit, unlike a cashback where you can spend it elsewhere, or not at all.

So it is 33% discount (5/15) but still worth $5 credit of value. Saying 33% of $10 equals $3.33 is not taking into account the $15 minimum spend.

                  • @aoiro: Yup this is why I’d rather use the Skip $3 of $10

                  • @aoiro: Cheers for your reply; am I correct in saying that if you would get $5 cash back after $10 spend, you would consider it 50% discount and if you get $5 credit you would say it's 33% discount?
Now what happens if your colleague says I'll give you $5 if you order me that $5 pork roll with your credit. Still 33% discount?

Yes it needs two transactions but the spend (money out of your pocket) is not $15, it is only $10. That is of course in the ideal circumstance where you buy something for $10 and then for $5.

                    • @aert: Took me a while to figure out what you were saying, I was quite confused about why your colleague gets the pork roll.

In this case it is 50% discount, you spent $10 and got $5 back. Your colleague just paid $5 full price for a pork roll, which doesn't really have anything to do with you other than you being a proxy for the sale between the shop and your colleague. You didn't get anything for yourself with that credit, you basically sold it to your colleague. The total spend is still $15, but your colleague covered the $5. But as far as your individual finance is concerned, I'd say you got a 50% discount.

The easiest way to look at it is "total money out vs total money in". If you were a good colleague and just shouted them the pork roll with your credit, then the discount would be 33%. You and your colleague would be considered the single entity that spent a total of $15 between the 2 of you.

So you get to either be the good colleague that got a 33% discount, or a bad colleague that got a 50% discount while your poor friend got a 0% discount.

                    • @aert: Yes if you get $5 cash back it would be a 50% discount. But if you get $5 credit back that you would have to spend for full price item (this is why there’s expiry on the credit) then it would only be a 33% discount. Unless you get to spend that $5 credit on another sale which I doubt there will be before expiry date then it would be more than a 33% discount.
Now you understand why points/credits most of the time don’t equate your cold hard cash or straight discount.

If you are after a right away discount instead of credit
use the Skip app promo ($3 off)

    • or you know, both.

Still waiting for my last $5 credit. I don't trust these guys anymore. What's the point if you have to email them everytime the credit that's promised doesn't get applied. Ritual has served me well so I'll stick with them

    • +1

The problem With ritual I find is the points are useless. I don’t know what they can be used for.

      • +1

They used to be good with a lot of 100 points offers for discounts but they've been stingy now. Even the $1 thing requires referrals now.

They've even replaced the referrals to be points instead of $10 :(

Having said that I like the ritual app slightly more than the hey you app.

        • Totally agree with you

      • You can redeem them for credit that can be spent directly on food, at a rate of 1000 to $1.

Alternatively you can spend them at far better rates discounting the prices of places you haven't been to before.

  • Make it - Spend $5, Get $10 Credit Back and I'm in :D

Honestly can't remember the last time I used Hey You.

    • +3

I used to be a mad advocate of hey you. Really felt they had nailed the straight shooting customer experience route. They had some odd delays here/there, but we're dependable for simple UX and good selection of cafes. The. They changed their app. They they started doing offers and reneging of them (anyone remember the free coffee offer for loyal customers they then then revoked as it went to see customers who they told weren't the loyal ones they were supposed to be targeting?). Then they ran the $5 off $10 promo that they never honoured..

As I said. I loved their app. Was patient as they tried new things, but they lost me when they twice failed to honour offers.. meanwhile, other apps (meal pal, skip and ritual have come to the party..)

    • Personally every day to buy coffee.

  • they seem to be losing support… saw some cafes taken off the map

  • great! lunch sorted!

  • All venues in Tasmania are showing as offline.
