Paid for Weekend Course, Got Sick, Facilitator Not Answering Emails

I paid in advance for a 2 day course, $855, plus a hotel for the night $92. I drove there on time and arrived early then started to feel not well. I was hoping it would pass but it got worse. At 9am the start, I told the guy (he was aware I booked a room) and we agreed I would try anyway. I kept rushing to the bathroom and had vomiting and diarrhea. At lunchtime, when I was able to check in I told him I had to go and lie down, he said get some sleep for tomorrow. I was unwell all night and couldnt eat, use the computer or watch tv. I just stayed in bed and hoped I could drive home on checkout. The next day I managed to drive home and slowly started feeling better, no more vomiting or diarrhea. I sent him an email at 10pm saying I was feeling better now and I think it was food poisoning. I also left my folder behind and does he have it. I also said I needed to reschedule as I wasnt well on the day. No reply as yet

In terms of returning your folder that would be the right thing to do if the course organiser still has it, and you can organise pick up or postage.
In terms of refund I don't think you would be entitled to one unless it's in the T&C's.
Though you we're not able to attend it was last minute and would have provided very little time for the organiser to change their plans.
The venue had been booked, probably catering and other operating costs with you in attendance accounted for, just because you weren't there doesn't mean that it didn't cost them the same amount.
Maybe it was sold out and they could have allocated your seat to someone else?
The best I see, you get a partial refund because the organiser is nice or a discount on the next course.
If you take it to small claims court there will be every chance you lose; time and more money.

    • HelloPam won't pay for postage for the return of her folder unfortunately as the cost of postage is too expensive. I suspect she wants the details of the next course location so she can camp outside, get in, grab the folder and not move until the course is finished as is CLEARLY her entitlement.

So in all seriousness Pam, are you OK?

I know a few of us have been having some fun at your expense here (all in good humour though) but I'd hate to think you were trying to reach out for help from a dark place and thought nobody cared, ok? :)

    • +2

I learnt nobody cares if its not their money. Most people that know me do care about me, but not all

      • +2

Well it's all a matter of perspective and in the long term losing a bit of money is not the end of the world (I guess I'll get my OB 'heretic' badge for that one.) And somebody else losing money even less so. So while the money might not important, you are. So, are you OK?

I will be okay, I have a Udermy back up plan, will just have to knuckle down and hope its as good

Thankyou for this. After going through the whole thread, I have noticed that people havent grasped the depth of this situation. I guess everyone has their own flaws.

"trying to reach out for help from a dark place"

      For bog roll?

You should have said that your "friend" paid for the course and got sick etc.

    Pam.

The world does not owe you anything. You are responsible for what happens to you and what you do, it is not the responsibility of the world to deal with it.

Whilst using Uedemy, I recommend you try looking up some youtube videos on 'stoicism'.

You appear to have the initiative for training, but perhaps you need to look at some other perspectives.

  • Curious to know what you would do with your refund

Troll post confirmed. Nice one OP.

  • I am pretty sure OP user name looks similar in another forum that was equally ehm… controversial as this one….

I read through the whole thread. I'm still not convinced if you are genuinely being serious or just trolling. If you are genuine, then best wishes getting your money back. If you are trolling then you are doing a great job.

    • sadly its real, still no word. I have begun doing my to do list again to not waste the whole day

      • -1

shame, but if I was him, I'd probably do the same.

        • well I know not to do business with you then

What type of toilet paper did they have in the hotel room?

    • I didnt get to enjoy the hotel or breakfast

      • didn't you get diarrhoea from the food poisoning, i always get it heaps.

      • In episode 2, will you be taking the hotel to the small claims court?

        • -2

I am thinking of leaving them a Review to warn others of their long term trusted client who uses and recommends their facilities

  • Was this a segment on ACA?

    • no

      • Are you going to call them?

  • +1

    On a side note….
    You left your folder behind?
You don't know if the hotel or the facilitator or the garbage men have it?
And you want to be compensated for that?

  • this is the greatest post of 2019

  • I reckon you could ask for the folder back and you pay the postage. As for the course and the accommodation, tough luck.

  • You forced your facilitator and course mates to be stuck in a room with a client who was vomiting and had diarrhea for ~3 hours (9 to lunch)?

I doubt the facilitator had contagious disease isolation training. Report both the facilitator in name and the training org to Work Safe Australia. The training org had a duty of care to not expose their facilitator to contagious diseases. The facilitator had a duty of care to all other clients not to expose them to contagious diseases.

The facilitator should have refused service, asked you to leave three times then call the cops on you for trespassing. They didn't. It's time we teach Australian companies how to say no to clients with the mighty Work Safe Australia. All hail our WHS overlords!!!

    • I heard the facilitator didn't provide high vis and there was no eye wash station either.

  • I kept my distance and the door was open to the room, we had no clue what was wrong with me, it wasnt until later the next day I realised what it probably was, when you are sick you just want to feel better, and that was all I could focus on, and try to drink water

I now have to make my next move. I will contact him via another channel ie facebook messenger

  • OP sounds like a total disaster area.
And the course facilitator did what they could to facilitate OP

If I was the course faciliatator Id stay WELL AWAY from OP.

Next time OP please cut with all the drama and details about your illness. Its totally unecessary, a waste of our time and makes us vomit.

Just get straight to the point - whatever that was because you dont really say.

    • love and light to you also

    • PS I think you should get checked for a disease, its called verbal diarrhea

  • Why not do the bold thing of making a phone call? Perhaps the instructor only checks emails once a week

    • Not yet, will try messenger next. He answered me very quickly after hours when it was about payments but once he had the money, now suddenly the emails are being ignored. Speaks volumes

  • A note to the Facilitator, whatever you do, DO NOT TOUCH that folder! Vomiting and diarrhea is guaranteed for 3 hours.

    • I dont think he will get it but if he does it will be karma &&&&&

  • Pam is quickly becoming my favourite troll

    • yesterday I was down because I lost money, today I am not so worried because I have been doing a similar course online and dont really want to see his face anymore, must have made me sick, but I do have to make an attempt to get my folder. Contains documents

    • I am troll proof thanks to my ex sister, she launched a sustained attack on me that I could see will never end so there is no solution. A bit like here. I will ask for this thread to be closed as it is attracting negative energies

  • Is this just a hard-luck story.

I proffer you never really wanted to attend and somehow psychologically you made yourself ill. You obviously have money to splash about and truely wish to better yourself, however, at the back of your mind sits the haunting voice of your father saying, "You no good for nothin' you will never be anythin' in this world"… an issue that will take more then a weekend course and far more than $800 to rectify.

    • sounds like you should know

  • I have absolutely no doubt that OP is unwell.

    Not was. Is.

  • and you are a qualified what? troll?
