Shame it's not the multigrain ones :'(

They should make a no added sugar version.

      Vita brits

I normally read the nutritional value table, but I didn't for Weet-Bix… very surprised to see they've added sugar considering how bland it is

      • +1

Yeah it's a crazy gotcha! Adding sugar to something that is marketed as healthy - surprise! :) But this is Sanitarium - most of their products have added sugar.

  • I thought with the record breaking wheat shortage and increase in market price these would only be heading in one direction…

If this a cupboard staple in your house then I suggest you fill your boots whilst you can!!

  • Won one, not bad for $1.90!

    Thanks op

Great price at $3.30 per kg, however Woolworths Wheat Biscuits are still cheaper at $2.90 per kg.

The Woolworths version has half the sugar and a tiny bit more salt.

    Personal preference I guess.

    • +2

Weetbix also contain iron and some vitamins, which the others don't, but more sugar as you say.

Those Wheat Biscuits appear more similar to Vita Brits. Now and then they go half price for 1kg at $2.50.

    • +1

I've bought the Golden Vale wheat biscuits from Aldi. Can't recall the price, probably similar to Woolies homebrand.

Sugar is 2.9g per 100 grams - has a similar taste to Weet-Bix. This is a good price for Weetbix.

      • Yeh we get these now, $3.19 for 1.12kg as I happen to have a receipt lying next to me. No complaints from the kids vs Weetbix.

    • +1

Best value is Vita Brits when they go half price, at $2.50 per kg.

Do people eat weet-bix as breakfast? I'm thinking of swapping out my frootloops with something more healthy. But not sure if it'll taste as good as frootloops.

    • 2 things,

Firstly that’s like saying do you eat sushi for lunch, weetbix is a brekky cereal so it’d be safe to guess that people do.

Secondly, it’s common sense as your brain is wired to love sugar so it’ll be a big decline in taste, however adding some fruit helps and you’ll get used to it in no time

    • Depends if you're addicted to the sugar in the loops or not…

    • +5

Weetbix still have too much sugar (around 3.3%). Switch to Vita Brits and you’ll be better off.

But you’re currently eating candy for breakfast. Of course real food won’t taste anything like that.

Single guy, living alone does that to you :'(

But I walk 6-8 km everyday to and from work even though I live in the free tram zone so maybe that helps with my unhealthy diet.

        • +1

The heavy hit of sugar of a morning may not cause you to add on weight, but it could still lead to Type 2 diabetes if you are genetically predisposed to it.

Try cutting out all sugar and processed foods for a month and you’ll start to wonder how you ever ate them to begin with. After a month without added sugar, you become super-sensitive to it, and even the natural sugars in vegetables start to taste sweet.

@[Deactivated]: Beautiful advice mate. Thanks. I'm trying to get into a healthy routine so I guess I'll start off by not eating frooties any more.

            • +2

@ar7ist: Cereals are still pretty rubbish nutritionally. Opt for eggs and bacon or even skip breakfast. It's NOT the most important meal of the day. That was a made up thing by the cereal companies. Here is a good resource for more information: https://www.sapien.org/diet. Hope that helps

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Not sure why you're getting negged, it's 100% correct. And the huge amount of sugar in fruitloops is just about the worst way to start the day, you'd be starving by 11am.

      • +2

Can vouch for vita brits over weet bix

      • +2

In 4 Weetbix you’ll get 2g of sugar. That’s negligible.
There’s almost 8x that in the milk alone.

        Also, Vitabrits are foul.

        • +1

Given the average person should only intake 25g of sugars per day, it’s close to 10% there alone.

Given Vita Brits taste better than Weetbix anyway, why not just avoid the extra sugar and choose the healthier option?

          • @[Deactivated]: Breakfast is one of most people’s 3 main meals though, so 10% still isn’t much.

Given Vita Brits taste better than Weetbix anyway, why not just avoid the extra sugar and choose the healthier option?

I guess it’s because that’s a very subjective statement. My household thinks the opposite.

      • Vita Brits are not real food..

    • +1

I eat weetbix any time, but prefer to do it while slouching on the couch watching late night TV, dipping them (like oreos) into a glass of cold bonsoy that's balanced on my gut. (I have not eaten weetbix with a spoon as long as I can remember).

      something more healthy.

Processed grain is not healthy regardless of which breakfast cereal it's in. It's insanely cheap and offers large markups to food processors who educated the brainwashed about it's non-existent health benefits.

Meat, eggs and/or raw, unprocessed fruit is a much healthier option.

      • Which part of processing the grain for Weetbix makes it unhealthy?

        • Trust the state for electricity, but not for grains. OK?

And be glad that today we are brainwashed but not morons.

        • the eating the grain part

      • +1

Wheat flakes aren't processed like flour. The grain is par boiled then crushed, so the entire wheat grain is retained. Commercial flour is substantially more processed. It's milled, sifted to remove all bran and most nutrients. "Wholemeal/wholegrain" flour is then reconstituted with added bran - not the entire grain that is removed but an alternate bran source. White flour is then bleached to give it that white look. However, the biggest nutrient killer is oxidation. Commercial flour loses most of its nutrients 3 days after milling. It's got as much nutrition as clean cardboard. That's why most flour has added vitamins and other elements added. May as well take a vitamin pill.

      • Diji1 speaks the truth. lol @ the downvotes

    • Nah just change it to Frosty Flakes.

    • Try having oats instead.. Adding fruits like blueberries and Strawberries helps.

    • Froot Loops are 40+% sugar. If you want to wean yourself off breakfast sugar to some extent use Vita Brits/WeetBix/Aldi Wheat Biscuits (cheapest) to bulk up your fav Uncle Tobys PLUS cereal. PLUS is regularly on special at Woolworths.

Worth noting that Sanitarium is owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and operates as a charity, and is therefore excempt from company income tax. 100% of their profits go to the church. The company made $300 million in revenue in 2015

  • thanks I need the fibre.

Got myself a free backyard cricket bat from my box of Weet Bix.
