I was just at Rebel, and they did not have any whoppers.

    • Maybe try the yoga pant aisle…

  • I havnt had HJ for years and was surprised when I asked for extra onions and it was 50c. Worse part I couldn't even tell if there was any onions at all

    • +2

They're there all right. I have had issues with onion in the past, and after eating a BigMac (with onion), I had bad heartburn for a week. So now, I have to order them without. :(

      • +1

That doesn't sound right… you shouldn't get heartburn for a week after eating foods unless you're constantly eating onions during that week…

(I'm not calling you a liar, I'm just suspecting there might be something else apart from heartburn)

        • +5

          It's not a tumour…

      • I would recommend doing a blood test..

  • +3

Saying no to meat and eating grass made burgers is so "rebellious" couldn't have given it a worse name if they tried lol.

    • +4

Technically, beef was grass made. This one's plant made.

      • The circle of life

        • +2

So this is what that dude in the hungry jacks car park was trying to sell me?

  • Rebel Whopper has plant based meat

    • has plant based meat

      This will anger botanophiles

    • Can we still call it anything-based meat when there is no actual meat in it though?

      • +5

        What about mincemeat xmas pies?

        • They are fruit mince not mincemeat.

        • +2

They originally had meat in them , the proper ones today still have animal products in them

          • @qwerty: Exactly. They were called mutton pies in the past, containing a mixture of minced meat, suet, fruits, and spices (cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg).

Not sure about leaving those out on the shelf from October though…

  • +1

I had the Rebel and regular whopper side by side comparison using the pdf voucher. The Rebel was not as good as the Impossible Burger at Burger King I had on a recent US trip.

    • +5

I also tried the Rebel with Cheese alongside a Whopper with Cheese.
FYI, I'm not a HJ fan, or a McD fan.
      1. The Rebe was marginally smaller. It is not served on the same buns as the Whopper.
      2. The Rebel had an artificial smokeyness, when compared to a Whopper.

However, if you where to eat the Rebel without comparison, I believe it's a great substitute if you are wanting to reduce you meat intake…. If you eat HJ.

    • +3

Aim: Compare Rebel and regular whopper

Conclusion: Impossible Burger at Burger King (US) was better.

      Ummm…

    • -1

      Shhhh no beef

Never mind all the processed goods that go in to them that all have a profit margin. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but there is a lot of fingers in this (artificial) pie. It's not all sunshine and happiness…

    • +17

      really? Source?
You're worried about that when you're eating at Hungry Jack's?

      • -1

His comment could extend to outside hi

        But yes source please

      • His source or sauce would be FUD

    • +3

There is food from Hungry Jacks that isn't good for you?! Shock-horror.

    • +10

Also curious as to why GM vegetables are bad for you. Sources would be great thanks.

      • +1

GM isn’t bad for you, per se. The problem is that you don’t know what you’re eating anymore. For example, normal corn doesn’t have gluten, however, GM corn may have characteristics that may cause your immune system to react as if it did. You may not care, but for a celiac, that’s really bad news.

    • Imagine thinking that any Hungry Jack's burger is good for you, yikes.

  • +1

If I "win" a $4 whopper on the HJs app will they let me swap it out for a rebel one? Tempted to try this but not for full price nor with a regular whopper on the side.

    • +3

No. Have tried this and was denied. Cannot swap the $4 whopper with Rebel or Vegan cheeseburger.

Next time I am there, i will try to see if I can get 2 Rebel whoppers for $8.45

    • Yes you can. I have done this successfully in 2 different HJs stores. However i feel it depends on how nice/crappy the HJ is so be prepared for them rejecting it.

I have however been unable to get them to swap a rebel whopper for the regular whopper in the normal HJ vouchers on their website :/

      • +1

Ditto, I've used the vouchers to get 2x Rebels without an issue.

    • +1

The few HJs I've been to allow swapping for a $2 (approx) surcharge. It's not that fantastic a deal with the surcharge but still cheaper than RRP.

  • I've been wanting to try one of these "meat-substitute" burgers for a while. I was curious to how they compared to real meat. I purchased a rebel burger a couple of weeks ago and I was thoroughly unimpressed. Not only did it taste absolutely nothing like a regular whopper, it actually gave me a stomach ache afterwards. Won't be buying again. I'll wait a few years and see how this technology improves I think.

    • +4

Go try the Beyond burger at Grill'd.

      • The Grill'd one was a pasty mushy mess

        Rebel was way better

        • Interesting. Mine had the same texture as a animal meat mince pattie.

        • +1

Was it specifically a 'Beyond burger patty' tho?

I ask this because they have their own plant-based patty 2.0 in addition to the beyond burger patties.

p.s Oh god their patty 1.0 attempt almost ruined me with the bread-yness..

p.p.s It's so darn frustrating that it costs around abouts $4-6-ish to just substitute , no matter where you go. note: I'm referring to various franchises/restaurants here ie. Soul Burger, LOTF, Grill'd

Guess that's just the way it's going to be for a while, supply/demand and all that stuff considered :/

    • +3

I think you were just unlucky… I have a sensitive stomach and i have eaten rebel whoppers twice now and both times i had no trouble.

  • +7

Anyone managed to substitute the whopper and just make it two rebel whoppers?

Seems like a fairly pointless promotion for the main target of the rebel whopper when you have to get a normal one as well!

    • They have a 2 x vegan burger voucher for a similar price, I was able to substitute in the rebel patty with that.

      • Good idea can you swap the rebel away for 2 beef burgers ?

If so a lot of fine folk will give it action :)

  • +2

    is phone fine?

    • Phone is ok

  • Will I die faster eating fake meat patties vs real meat patties?
I would like to choose the option that I can savour the better flavour longer.

    • -1

The patties are OK. It is the coke, fries, etc that will kill you.

    • +1

Will I die faster eating fake meat patties vs real meat patties?

don’t worry about dying faster, worry about how sick you get before you die.

  • These aren't horrible but they're a little a disappointing considering beyond patties from coles taste closer to a whopper imo.

  • -1

    Yuck.
The only reasonable meat-substitutes I've ever tasted were fungi-based, not from plants. e.g. Quorn.
Soy protein and its relatives have their uses, but are not the same.

Rebel Patty (Water, Soy Protein, Vegetable Oil, Thickeners (461, 1442) Flavours (Including Glutamic Acid (620)), Dextrose, Caramel Colour (150c), Antioxidants (300, 307), Smoke Flavour),

The majority of the calories are still from fat - sunflower and coconut oil.

  • +1

Sorry guys , how did you do side by side ? Mine came out normal prices thx

    • +1

The discount isn't applied till check out. You'll see the discount applied in the review order screen.

      • Thx for that !!

  • Why would I want to eat an even more processed patty?

  • The swines have been charging extra for the plant based burgers for some reason so it may actually be 9.90$ or whatnot. Don't know if that includes GST but worth making a noise, negotiate a free Small fries to walk away.

Nobody said The plant based burgers are healthy but at least no Cholesterol and a cruelty free alternative. The rebel actually taste pretty good, Smokey taste, usually swap regular whoppers for vegan cheeseburgers, pretty solid in comparison.

  • +1

I'm pretty obsessed with the rebel whopper at the moment! Usually don't eat burgers, but can't resist getting one every weekend the past two weeks…. not great for my waistline but so delicious! Hopefully I can get them to give me two rebels in this deal.

  • Stock price of bynd ( beyond meat ) skyrocketed Because of it

    • +1

Beyond share price has plummeted past few months. (After having a strong rally after listing)

  • I see this voucher in my app. Can you buy multiple 'two' burgers with one voucher in the app?

    • Yes. Just do multiple transactions

  • This is not coming up in my app. Not in the proms section or coupon section. Is it expired?

  • Not in my app, tried the pic just in case - Oxford st HJ apparently have never heard of the deal and wouldn't honour it.
