Home for Used VCE Books

Cleaning out the attic we have boxes of text books for years 10-12 that our kids used about 4-6 years ago. The books are in excellent condition, albeit the edition numbers are likely not books on current school lists.

These books cost several $'000 when purchased new and it would be a shame to send them to landfill.

Any suggestions of a way to get a new home for the books. Don't want any payment.

Library (local or school), Vinnies or other charity places that take donations?

Had thought of that but Vinnies, Salvo's, etc., are so picky these days they will not accept anything on which they cannot make a quick turnover/ sale
They are no longer "charities", rather hard-nose business ventures

      • Ah that sucks…

What about friends/relatives with high school age kids? They don't need to be sitting the VCE just yet but could be handy in a year or two's time. Subject syllabuses and content do change over time but stuff like maths textbooks with questions and solutions will always be useful.

Or if you really just want to get rid of it Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace should do it nice and quick.

That's because people kept using them as a dumping ground for their garbage.

  • Street library.

Pity you're not in Sydney, else I'd grab them; would love the perspective of a different state when we go over it with our kids.

Doesn't your council supply you with a bin for recyclable items?

  • Gumtree or Facebook Market
From my experience if you listed it as free, there are people who are keen to pickup.

  • Waste waste waste. I'm trying to cast my mind back many years to when I was in high school.I seem to recall the school providing most of the textbooks. You handed them back at the end of the school year and they were used again next year, and the next year and so on until they were damaged or some astonishing revolution in a subject required a new textbook - that never happened.
