  • Good deal! Especially for a pre-built. Please provide some more specifications on the PSU, best guess is they've cheaped out on a generic that can probably only hold half it's stated capacity. Hmmm

sorry forgot to mention. The PSU is Thermaltake Litepower 600WTT Power Supply

      • +1

Oh okay I take that back then, seems like a reasonable PSU especially for a pre built. +1 from me.

    From MSY:

    Intel Core i5-2400 1155pin Boxed CPU $183.00
    MSI P67A-C43 P67 DDR3 Intel 1155pin Motherboard $99.00
    G.Skill-NT 4GB Single DDR3 1333 RAM $26.00
    Seagate 3.5" Barracuda 500GB ST3500413AS SATA3 7200RPM 16MB $37
ASUS SATA DVD RW- 1 Year Warranty $24.00
    GIGABYTE 1GB GTX 550 Ti PCI-E VGA Card $151.00
Thermaltake TteSports Challenger Gaming Keyboard $49.00
    Thermaltake LitePower 600Watt PSU $68.00
Thermaltake V4 Case Black Edition with 450W PSU $77.00
    Build Fee $70
    Total $784

Includes a spare 450W PSU (albeit a fairly crummy one).

If you were serious though you wouldn't buy that 600W litepower either for gaming.

I would trust it as much as I would trust that 450W.

Also you can buy a case without PSU like the Coolermaster RC37 for $45, that way you don't have two PSU's.

(The megabuy deal does seem good)

Ditto. The system wouldn't draw much, 200Wish under heavy load without overclocking. But I go for quality of wattage rating. I'd go with something like the Antec NSK-6580B w/ 430W EarthWatts instead. It'd be cheaper too.

      • Saved me the trouble of typing something similar to that :)

      • +1. A friend on CF had a Litepower and it broke down on him too. But hey it's better than your cheap $30 800w PSU that use HUGE 5v rails :D

    • The way I see it, if you beat MSY prices (by even $5), it's deserving of a bargain. I'm uncertain why they'd use the TT V4 if they are going to use a different power supply though. And that aside, there isn't much wrong with the 450W that comes with the V4 for a very basic PSU, it's got nothing on the top end ones… but its leap years ahead of the generics.

I mostly concur. Matching MSY is pretty good… but the second you do something like add Windows 7, it's the same price as MSY. And if you upgrade anything else, MSY is cheaper. It's a good price… but it's not a bargain. If it came with an on-site warranty or a postage paid RTB warranty then yes… but it doesn't.

Yes, MSY is good. Matching MSY is good. But does that make everything MSY has a bargain and anything any other retailer has that beats MSY by a dollar or two a bargain? No. Especially No on a whole system.

I'm not sure about the current level of Thermaltake cheap case PSUs, but I'm willing to agree they'd be better than generics. Generics would fall under "utter shit", but Thermaltake's still fall under "fairly crummy". If it could reliably pull even 300W with stable voltages, noise and ripple I'd be stunned.

  • P67, nice GPU, low RAM, no SSD, not great for ozbargin prices

    • Oh yeah, that's a good point too. Older P67 chipset. Z68 isn't much better, but it's worth the extra $30-50.

    • IMO 4gb ddr3 is plenty of ram even with heavy multitasking, and in this price range a solid state drive would be unnecessary and make it much more expensive.

      • SSD makes a huge difference in everything, OS loads in 4-8 seconds, programs open in milliseconds, when the alternative is a HDD it's the biggest speed improvement you can get
