  • I just bought a Crucial BX500 for the same price. Should I cancel and get this instead? Any difference between them?

    • nope. same thing.

How does this compare to samsung evo 860. Thanks

          samsung is way better…

also, the samsung is easier to clone for a laptop…

the cloning software for the WD wont run if you attach it to USB.

          • @jv: Thank you i guess i will hold back for a good deal on samsung.

    • Whoops! I got suckered by the "From only" price that was for the 120GB though having 240GB selected. Not cheaper.

Where's that "$100 for 1TB or no deal" guy?

  • Been looking for a USB plug and play hard drive, with the sole purpose of copying movies and tv series that I’ve downloaded on my phone, to the hard drive.
Once on there, it will be plugged in to the Vodafone TV box (Android tv) to watch. I then delete things I’ve watched, as sick of keeping all the files. I have been downloading the 4K versions of movies lately, if that matters.

Anyone able to recommend the cheapest solution possible, with at least 120gb space?

Was going to go down the road of one of these in a caddy, but thought someone might know of cheaper?

    Cheers

    • If you're looking for an SSD to get dem speeds, an enclosure will probably be your best bet. Any OEM selling a portable SSD will charge a premium for the convenience of having everything stuffed in a single package. So, you should probably combine a WD Blue with a 2.5" enclosure from eBay if you're on a budget.

Also, you can consider using a USB, if you can live with the (relatively) bad write speeds. I recently bought a Samsung Bar Plus 128GB and while it writes at around 30-40MB/s when copying big singular files, like a movie, it can easily read at 300MB/s, assuming your device has a USB 3 port. And it's cheap. I got mine for $39 by price matching Bing Lee at JB (eBay has it for cheaper but I needed it urgently).

Sorry for the long response, couldn't make it any shorter.

      • Cheers! I had been looking at the Samsung bar, but wasn’t sure if it would be suitable for watching movies of that size. But if that’s not an issue, then it’s def the way to go!
Will hunt for the best deal on one of them. Thanks again

        • Just make sure it's a Bar 'Plus'. I know of 3 variants.

          • The non-Plus that's quite old.

          • The Plus with 200MB/s that I've had in the past and it was great.

          • The newer Plus with 300MB/s and it's also great.

Shouldn't matter unless you're gonna need those read speeds but it does get quite hot even with moderate usage. So, make sure you're aware of that.

I've tried watching a 4K H.265 encode of Blade Runner 2049 that was 17GB in size, with the USB directly plugged into a Samsung 8 series TV. It ran just fine.

          • @[Deactivated]: Don’t mind heat as long as it keeps doing it’s thing thought a ~2hr movie lol.

Found this one on eBay, it says plus and 300mbs speeds, so should be the right one?

Cheers for the help, will purchase now (yet another thank you to ebay UKs almost 20% off gift cards haha)

          • @[Deactivated]: Even the same tv as I have!

            • @Tuttle: Haha, it wasn't my TV, but I'm glad to hear that.

And yeah, seems like the same USB. Just make sure you trust the seller.

  • DRAM-less SSD.. Not my cup of tea. There was a sale on MX500 drives that other day for 140 bucks (After cashback) for the 1 TB SSD on Amazon. Much better drive and not DRAM-less. I would wait for something like that to come around again if your after a reasonably fast SSD.

  • Read some reviews, BX500 doesn't sound ideal.
Anyone seen 1TB MX500 deals? $170 and less ideally?
