Qantas Premier Platinum MasterCard, $199 Annual Fee, 120k Qantas Points (Min Spend $1500/Month for 6 Months)

1271

This deal has been extended, and, IMO, it's an underrated one - provided you can manage your affairs to get the minimum spend.

  • 20k Qantas points each month you reach the $1500 minimum spend, for six months.
  • Reduced annual fee of $199 (normally $299).
  • 2 x digital lounge passes - which can fetch $90 on Gumtree, offsetting some of the annual fee.

Aside from the above, the card earns 1 points per dollar for the first $10k per month, which is a very good earn rate post the RBA changes of a few years ago.

While the question of eligible purchases always pops up with minimum spend (and the answer varies between products), the answer is clear here:
Eligible purchases do not include; Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Refunds, Chargebacks and Special Promotions.

So your council rates, water bill, rego etc. will all count toward the $1500 (even if they aren't eligible for normal points earn).

Also note that next month will begin the Qantas Points Club, which will give benefits to anybody earning over 150k points per year - this deal alone will get you 80% of the way there.

  • Got approved in 1 working day. Only 1 payslip provided. And have citi bank signature card. Only got that 2 months ago.

  • I just got my first statement and wanted to let people know that paying my council rates did not earn any qantas points.
I can't confirm whether it counted towards the $1,500 minimum monthly spend as I ended up spending more than $1,500 on other stuff.
So many varied and confusing messages from Citibank regarding what's eligible spend and what isn't.

    • It will count…the terms are very clear what's excluded, and no such payments are.

      • Can anyone confirm yet if rates etc will/did count towards the $1500 min spend?

        • Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not
limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions,
BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers
cheques, transactions made in operating a business, payments
to other Citi accounts, bank fees and charges such as interest
and ATM charges, transactions made using Qantas Points
and government related transactions. Government related
transactions include transactions with government or semigovernment entities, or relating to services provided by or in
connection with government (for example but not limited to
transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian
Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking
stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court
          related costs).

i dont think so, despite the above OP

  • I'm a bit late to the party, searching for a good deal on a QFF earning card. Is this still the best deal around at the moment?

    • +1

If you want a low limit card (6k) and don't mind the 6 month commitment then this Qantas Premier one is good.
But if you can get a 15k limit card then I think the ANZ FF Black deal is the best one at the moment.

      • Thanks mate!

  • Does anyone know what is the period that counts towards the $1500 monthly spend? Is it a normal billing cycle or the date the application was approved?

    • +1

The period you need to spend the $1500 is during each statement period (a month). Your statement period starts on the day you opened the account, ie. when you get approved. Below is quoted from the terms.

20,000 Qantas Points will be awarded each statement period when $1,500 or more is spent on eligible purchases that month. This offer is only available for the first 6 months from account approval.

  • Just got this card.

Pretty annoyed that it doesn't support Google Pay
The Qantas Money app is very unreliable, takes ages to load, website also has issues
No idea on how activate the additional cardholder card, its not showing any options in my account
Citibank annoyingly called me multiple times for information/verification asking for the same information
    Received the lounge passes already

Got this to replace the NAB Qantas card, but it feels a bit crappy so far. The ANZ/NAB/AMEX cards were all pretty seamless, this feels like the St George experience I had a couple of years back.

I also got refused for this card a few months back, however I reduced my NAB credit card limit from 75k to 25k and that seemed to have worked this time.

    • App works perfectly fine for me… I’m on iOS

  • Does anyone know if Qantas Premier travel insurance covers covid19 related travel complications?

  • I just received my card and applied prior to the deal expiry, however there is no mention at all of the 120k bonus points on any of the paperwork they sent me. I definitely have the deal as my annual fee is discounted to $199. Did anyone get any written confirmation of the bonus points when they received their card?

    • I haven't got this card personally, but from my experience with other cards/banks, they never mention the bonus points in any documentation (until you get it on your statement). So I wouldn't be too worried. You can always call them to confirm.

      • Thank you. I ended up calling last night. I was given verbal confirmation by the CSR but he wouldn't email or put it in writing. Dodgy but I have no choice it seems!
