The Zero 9 electric scooter is generally available within Australian stores for $1499 and a popular import option to save a few hundred is to order from Falcon PEV in Singapore.

Falcon PEV are having a flash sale for singles day, saving 22% with the code. The Zero 9 is $999SGD plus $147.65SGD delivery, making this unit available for $991 AUD for the next couple of days. Remember sale starts Friday night 10PM and finishes Monday 9:51pm.

The Zero 9 is well positioned in the market with:

  • a reasonably semi-portable weight of 18kgs, foldable.
  • decent mileage of 45kms namepate due to 48V 13Ah battery.
  • 600 Watts rear motor with 25amp controller for peak of 1200w
  • Pneumatic (air filled) 9" tyres combined with full suspension for a nice ride
  • Front disk brakes and rear drum + regenerative brakes.
  • 47km/h top speed (can be capped to lower speeds)
  • Max payload 100kg

Having done some research, I'm seriously considering as it would be quite an upgrade from my Xiaomi M365 which weighs 12.5kgs, 30kms range, 42V 7.8Ah battery, 250w with 500 peak front motor (although I have increased mine to about 700w), 8" pneumatic without suspension (although I have upgraded to 10"), rear disk, top speed 25km/h (again, upgraded that to about 30). My M365 has clocked up about 2500kms riding to work this year, and I'm wanting a little more torque to climb some of the hills on the commute.

The usual state laws apply, in Qld you would have to stick with the two lower power settings, to keep within the 25km/h limit.

      Singapore drives on the same side of the road as Australia. If you were importing from China, Korea or Myanmar you might have some programs there….

        Top speed varies for each market. There are wire and software based limiters. These can be modified.

        Falcon PEV website states that for the Zero 9 "Top Speed; capped at 25km/h (international 47 km/h)".
        So as we are "international" it would be 47kph top speed. That's faster than my mum drives her Toyota Echo on the freeway!!

    Might be worthwhile waiting since singapore just recently banned e-scooters on footpaths which is likely to ground alot of riders.

    How did you come to ~$926 AUD?

    Item is $999 SGD - 22% = $779.22 SGD + $147.65 SGD Delivery = $926.87 SGD x $1.07 (SGD to AUD Currency Conversion)= $991.75 AUD.

    I have one of these and upgraded from an M365. Much nicer than the M365 - faster, plusher (suspension actually works but could still be better I presume) and brakes are a lot better than M365 (brakes are arguably the most important component imho) - but much heavier - you won't want to be lifting it up stairs too often. Front end seems quite loose compared to M365, especially when going over big holes, due to suspension and folding mechanism being in that area. I have locked the folding mechanism because on one of my first rides I went down our driveway and when it hit the gutter area it folded down on me. Luckily I wasn't going too fast at the time so didn't stack it. Not really a drama not being able to fold it down for me as the handle bar drops into itself and the handles fold in so it can still be made quite compact for putting in a car. Would be much easier to carry folded down though.

    Main reason I bought it was for the extra power to get up hills without having to manually kick/push it (dodgy knee) but it still can't get up the steepest hill I go up without some assistance (the windy part of the bike path that goes up from the Brisbane river to next to the freeway) and on other hills it slows down quite a lot too. Where I tried it out before buying was completely flat so couldn't test this part of it.

    Top speed according to the speedo is really only about 36 to 37km/h on the flat and drops over time (e.g. is about 32 to 33 after 11km). Can't speak for mileage as I've never gone further than 22km without charging. Oh and the battery indicator is largely completely useless and can be ful one minute and then almost empty the next (usually after going up a hill). Some people complain that the throttle is touchy but I think you'd get used to it very quickly (I guess it all depends on what you're used to / expect).

    Overall highly recommended, especially at this price compared to the M365. But be prepared for some cyclists not to like you when you're on the bike path (even though at 36km/h I still get passed by some cyclists occasionally). Change is coming - accept it!

      My Mercane Widewheel (1000W 13.3Ah) gets up there in economy restricted mode. In power restricted mode it really hauls up that hill. I don't bother with unrestricted because 25km/h is enough most places and it's the punchy acceleration that makes it fun. Similar weight to this Zero9, but a bit weirder to ride due to the wide tyres and a bit less pot hole forgiving due to the smaller airless tyres. But it's a great climber.

        Yep my M365 upgrade decision came down to the Zero 9 (or Turbowheel Dart) and Mercane Wide Wheel. Ordered the Zero 9 this morning with this deal. Build quality and bump handling swayed me towards the Zero 9. Wide Wheel dual motor with larger battery was around $1499 vs the Zero 9 with this deal at a third less.

    Singapore changed their local scooter laws yesterday and now you can't ride on the footpath or road anymore. The only legal place for a scooter to ride is now the bike path.

    I wonder if they'll be doing any fire sales.

    Here's an interesting read on these PMDs. Currently in freefall mode, probably another few more weeks or months there might be various stock clearance from different vendors if anyone is inclined to import them over here (pay GST and expensive postage/ freight. I don't think there is after sales support in terms of warranty, unless you ship back faulty parts (after diagnosis of the issue), which is another sum of money.

    Personally, I would buy local for that warranty.

        Falcon PEV are the producers of Zero and distribute world wide. It's unlikely changes to their local market will influence their sales.

          2. its a crowded market over in SG. Given the new legislation, Falcon or any of those stuck with stock will have a hard time selling. Since domestic market is failing, naturally they look outwards to international market to dispose their stock. that said, my position is still valid —> get locally for warranty, after sales support and what not

    FYI Singapore recently imposed some 'regulation' and banned electric scooters from pedestrian pathways. SG distributors are speculating this may impact their sales and apparently have stocked up a lot for this month's sales.

    We may get a better price ;)

      I've done a bit of research on this and there are no reports of anyone on the internet that I've come across where they have had to challenge warranty. It's either uncommon or people don't bother.
