Qantas Money / Travel Card (Frequent Flyer Program)

Hi all,

Just curious about other's peoples perspective with the Qantas Money card. Have you ever called the call centre? Was the experience positive? They seem to have 3 different numbers 1300992700, 1300825302 and 131131. Each number is supposed to serve a different purpose but my experience today indicated they all go through the same menu option. I tried to report my card as lost, but they couldn't identify me due to the language barrier with the overseas call centre. I was hung up on twice, put on hold for about 20 minutes the 1st time, and once told to go to contact my bank directly (despite it being a Qantas card). All up I spent about 3 hours on the phone, and I honestly couldn't imagine having a proper credit card and trying to resolve bigger issues.

I guess I am trying to determine if this was a once off negative experience or if their call centre service has always been poor?

I called them for a replacement card a few weeks back. New card arrived within the 10 business days - which was what I was told to expect. I could tell the person at the other end of the phone probably wasn't aussie born and bred, but I could understand them, and they me, so it worked out fine in my case.

I fly Qantas quite a fair bit, I find that their customer service is a bit hit or miss. For the main airline, they're pretty good (compared to most other airlines in general), but for all of their affiliated stuff - e.g. credit cards, insurance and all of that sort of stuff - they seem to have offshored the support to overseas where the call quality is poor, the staff don't seem to be very knowledgeable or well trained and there's quite a high chance of a language barrier.

In general, I wouldn't use the Qantas Travel Card, I find that their rates are pretty bad. You can get better rates at ANZ Bank, which seem to do the best rates within Australia, and obviously even better still at your destination if you know where to go. I find that I get better rates withdrawing directly from my VISA Debit card compared to the Qantas Money card.

    • This is a good point as I was considering the Qantas Insurace, but it seems like it could be more of a headache than its actually worth.

      • I have Qantas health insurance and so far the call centre has been quite good in answering my queries. The wait times have been about 15min though.

  • Have had the Qantas Cash prepaid Mastercard for many years without any issues. Have found it handy for grocery shopping budget (whoever goes shopping uses it and takes away worry of giving cash to teenagers). Also helps one accumulate Qantas points, one can convert to Velocity points (I usually buy $50 JB HiFi vouchers as gifts with them). No fees, no cash withdrawals, no gambling but can be rejected at some parking facilities.). We don’t use it for overseas transactions (yet) but would not be surprised at conversion rates … PayPal is much of a muchness too. I have had no issues with it and son has just signed up for one too; card arrived in about 10 days. On the rare occasion I have rung them they have sorted the problem quickly and politely. Yes, most call takers are obviously Asian but that is like most call centres hey. Usually they ask security questions for id verification so there should be no problems. I think you should try the “forgot my password” and reset your password so you can sign on again quickly. Once signed in you should be able to put a stop on the card etc. Ring the number on the card 131131 or (02) 9433 2329 (after resetting the;password) or even try the simple Money app. Good luck.

    • I found Jetstar and Qantas staff very helpful when my elderly mother travelled. Jetstar even encouraged her (and us travelling with her) to use the lift to the aircraft rather than climb the stairs, and be seated before others. She had 2 recent knee replacement surgeries at the time. This was a fully booked aircraft but staff were still efficient and very caring. Qantas staff always assist her on her overseas travel too. We have only the highest regard for their aircraft and terminal staff.

I have used my Qantas Money Card for the past 2 years, and have been overseas 5 times in that time. No problems at all using it at ATMs or in Stores as a normal CC.
I also find it handy to store different currencies for upcoming trips. Whenever I have contacted support (once) it has been fairly pain free.
