At 32" seat pitch, 17"seat width, it is among the tightest seating arrangements for international flights. Anyone flown with them? Do ppl who fly China Southern and other super cheap airlines just grin and bear it for the 22 hours, whilst feverishly praying the whole way?

    • Whilst i have not flown them myself other friends have and they all complained about it, no snacks onboard, limited inflight meal, extremely limited amount of alcohol which is gone by the time the cart made its way to you.

You really do get what you pay for and ive pretty much put them as the Jetstar of the International routes, You will get to your destination on time just try and sleep thru it all as best as you can.

I've flown them many times to go to China/Korea/Japan and honestly they are not that bad.

Definitely not a premier airline, but it's not a true low cost airline either. The amount of luggage you are allowed to carry is pretty good for the price as well.

In flight meal is average but more dependent on where you are heading out from. Cannot comment on alcohol choices or availability as I refrain from drinking on planes, but I do like that they offer tea very often.

Transferring at Guangzhou has improved (process-wise) but the transit hub is still very dead, so shorter the better.

I agree that you do get what you pay for, and at these kind of prices it's a good deal.

      • A trick is that you can ask for instant noodles if you're hungry at any point in the flight.

    • Not sure the exact dimensions but I prefer the route to Europe via Singapore as scoot does as it breaks the two flights better . With the Arab airlines you need to fly a leg of 15 hours where if you're going via Singapore it's 10 . If you want to save half the price you don't mind trust me… Airline food is garbage anyways I try and pack my belly before and smuggle some Subway in my bag if i get caught ah well haven't been caught yet :) Subway beats the airline food

      • You can't 'get caught' for taking other food onboard, provided you're consuming it (or leaving it) on the plane.

    • I flew with China Southern to Nepal earlier this year. I didn't notice the seats being any smaller than usual (but as I'm 6 feet tall most plane seats feel small). However the service was pretty bad. They ran out of the meal I wanted and I didn't like the majority of the other meal so I kinda just went hungry. Then our flight got diverted due to a storm and we had to land in an airport an hour away. I don't blame them for this, but the way they treated us on the runway of the other airport was pretty bad - 6 hours of waiting with no drinks, no food, and barely any updates on what was going on. When we finally arrived they were trying to get us all on a later connecting flight but somehow we just lined up for about an hour and they said there were no seats left, but our friends managed to get on that flight and they said there were heaps of spare seats so we could've been on there. Pretty frustrating.

Obviously not a typical flight, and in normal circumstances they probbaly wouldn't be that bad. It wasn't a great flight but if the option for cheap flights came up again I'd probably still choose them to save some money.

  • I'm sure airchina wouldn't mind bringing your own sandwiches or snacks onboard

  • Thanks! Just bought my next flights to Italy.

  • That's a good price for an airline ranked 14th in the world.

I flew with these guys for the first time in June on my way to Paris. I wrote a detailed review that includes info about the free Guangzhou transit hotel on Whirlpool:
