Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2080 Super Windforce OC 8G Graphics Card $999 + Delivery (Free Pick up) @ Umart

990

Not sure if I've seen any 2080 supers under $1000 other than the Colorful or Galax models, so this Gigabyte model seems like a pretty good deal.

Especially worth it if you live near a Umart and can pick up.

Umart has some good deals at the moment actually - thinking of grabbing the x34p monitor for $999

    • +2

      Its totally worth it! I upgraded from a 27" 1440p/144hz to the x34p (34" Ultrawide 120hz).

There was an Ozbargain deal for the x34P for $927 delivered. About 2 months ago.

ok i just bought it haha

Speaking from experience from this monitor, mine started to flicker and had lines going through it within a month of use and had to send it back for a replacement. Just make sure you don't leave it open for a long period of time too, currently I got windows to put my monitors to sleep mode after 15 mins of no use.

      • ok great - i'm in brisbane so can just take it back. it's got a 3 year manufacturer warranty too apparently

  • +1

    Very nice deal!

    • It is $1049 at MWAVE. Hopefully we will see cheaper price on ebay very soon.

Seeing how my GTX 1080 was gimped and never bothered optimising drivers once Turing came out, I would rather wait for the ampere to come out in the next 6 months time. I am sure nVidia will gimp turing once ampere is out and improve RT performance only on Ampere saying 7nm is good, Ampere has better architecture etc. I wish AMD had decent performance (UWQHD at decent FPS)!

        • RX 5700/xt run very respectable framerates at 3440x1440 for many AAA titles. Pair it with a freesync monitor and it's great value!

          • +4

@Currynuts: Not much of an upgrade over my 1080 hence waiting.

        • +4

Seeing how my GTX 1080 was gimped and never bothered optimising drivers once Turing came out

If you're saying it was gimped because Nvidia stopped driver optimisation that is silly.

@Diji1: When Turing was released, the difference between pascal and Turing was very less. Overtime and in newer games, the difference increased by a LOT. It’s not just me who feels this btw, many people over forums have expressed the same. One guy on YouTube even said it was as if nvidia paid game developers to gimp pascal and favour Turing architecture for performance fine tuning.

            • +7

@John Doh: That's because when Turing was released Pascal was already optimized and a mature architecture with years of optimizations. Drivers can only help old hardware so much.
When an architecture is new it has more room for improvement via software. Not everything is some big conspiracy.

              • -1

@ClintonL: Architecturally there is not that much of a difference between the 2 other than inclusion of RT and Tensor cores. But performance wise there is and day by day this difference has increased over newer games.

Gees graphic card these days are so expensive.

    • +1

To be fair, this is a top-of-the-line card and only really necessary if you're gaming at very high resolution or using VR. For the average 1080p gamer you'd be perfectly fine with a 1060/RX 580 :)

      • +1

He is probably comparing it earlier pascal prices.

      • -3

You'll probably find the average PC gamer is more than likely going to be at 1440p now

        • +7

I'd respectfully disagree. While 1440p is certainly gaining in popularity, 1080p still dominates. October 2019 Steam surveys showed that only about 8% of gamers played with a resolution above 1080p, with 64.58% still using 1080p.

@Dimatoid: Unfortunately we can't filter this by country/region/wealth.

In Australia this would be much higher.

          • +3

@Dimatoid: I think youre right, but I think this is due to legacy. I think most (no-casual) gamers now would/should be looking at 1440p or 4k if buying new hardware now and not too budget constrained. Still 1080p is still nice, playable and pretty.

      • only really necessary if you're gaming at very high resolution or using VR

Or requiring high consistent frame rate…..to keep up with your 240Hz monitor for a tear free experience or and just smoother more responsive gameplay….

        • +1

Good point! I have a 144hz 1080p monitor myself and it's a constant battle to get the frames. I've come to accept that I won't get the full 144 for every game. That's where FreeSync comes in handy :)

      • You aren't quite at the top at this price point but it's definitely high end.

      • 1080p 60-144fps please? what card

        • +1

A 1660 should get you inside that frame bracket for most titles on high-max settings. If you want to be closer to 144 than 60 you'll have to fork out a bit more though.

This also depends on the CPU you have though. Anything made in the last 5 years you shouldn't have much of a problem with, but keep in mind that a weak CPU will throttle your GPU causing a drop in frame rates.

          • @Dimatoid: CPU currently R5 2400 sowhat should pair with a GTX1660?
            My biggest titles PUBG

            • @capslock janitor: That'd be a good pair. You'd probably be looking at around 70 fps on max settings. If you wanted an AMD equivalent you'd probably be after a 580 or 590.

              • @Dimatoid: 2400g APU is fine? And thanks for equivalent

                • @capslock janitor: The APU will be redundant when you have a dedicated GPU. But the R5 2400 is plenty powerful enough for just about every title.

                  • @Dimatoid: Yes if it'll be redundant then which CPU do you recommend to pair with the dGPU? Cheers

                    • +1

@capslock janitor: No I mean the APU aspect of your CPU will be redundant since you will have a dedicated GPU. The CPU itself will still be perfectly fine to pair with the GPU, so no need to buy a new one :)

    • Top tier always had prices like that mate

      • -1

This is not top tier and regardless of that, no it hasn't

  • I think Umart site is buggy. This card shows up under flash sale but does not show up when I select 2080 Super and sort them by price low to high.

    • I see other sites buggy like msy when you put filters and search.. eg: amd or gigabyte and boards etc you knew were there dont show

    • +1

Hi VinayAU, Sorry for the inconvenience. I will pass this along to our website team to look into.

    • Does for me. It's listed twice. Once at $999, once at $1269. Both are the OC model.

  • Do umart have modern warfare codes?

    • +2

Hi Caiphus, Are you referring to the NVIDIA promotion? Umart does not have redemption codes, you get those from the GPU or OEM brand of the product you bought i.e. MSI, Gigabyte, Razer, ASUS etc. You can find all the promotion details and redemption links on the Umart website, click here.

  • +1

Damm. Very tempted to upgrade from my 980gtx

    • +1

What's stopping you? Seems like a worthy upgrade (two generations worth).

      • +1

Probably dropping $1000 on a video card.

        • +3

I guess bragging about potentially buying one is the next best thing, right?

  • +1

Got the MSI 2080 Ventus. This is a great price but not really an upgrade for me.

    • :)

    • It is if you use two!

      • Lol, I call that overkill.
In my current settings i get pretty decent framerates and can game at 4k.

  • +1

Bought! Hopefully I don't have to wait for long to pick it up.

  • Just confirming if this is the cheaper variant of Gigabyte's cooler (i.e. not the Gaming OC model)? Not sure if worth the extra money to get the "better" cooler.

  • +1

Looking at building a new pc with a 2080 super soon. Been a long time since I've done a custom build, so I'm a bit out of the loop on when is best to buy— anyone know if this is worth getting at the moment, or if I should hold off for a few months and see if there's any Christmas/boxing day sales?

    • +2

no one is really going to be able to answer that with any real accuracy. This is a good price, but yeah it seems like there is a possibility of price drops happening with rumours of new AMD cards coming in the next few months that will compete with these. These are rumours though and to be taken with a grain of salt.|

Personally, I'm waiting. I'm in no hurry to build, and would prefer something like a Strix or a Gaming X, and happy to wait for them to drop closer to $1k before I pull the trigger.

      • New AMD cards wouldn't be surprising. Aren't AMD cards being used in the 4k 120hz PS5 likely to release next year?

        • Yeah that's what is rumoured, not sure if it has been confirmed yet. Though, that is very likely still a year away from releasing.

      • You can get the gaming x for 1180 on ebay

  • +3

Every time I see something like this I look at my two year old 1080 Ti Asus Rog Strix bought for $984, chuckle to myself, and pat it, while softly saying 'Atta boy Rog. Atta boy.'

    • why

      • +1

        Cause, the performance

        • Is.. Good…?

          • @capslock janitor: Yea the 1080 Ti held up really well and was basically on par with the original 2080, which was significantly more expensive.

    • lol, same with my 3.5 year old $250 release 1060 6gb.

  • +1

Price increased to $1,199 on Umart's website

  • +1

I was gonna buy it but its 1199. why umart? it says it's in stock and the sale shouldn't have ended this early.
