Ute Rage-Merging Causing Damage to My Car (Footage inside)

Footage link: https://imgur.com/a/vDKlUrs

I saw him quite late as the big red Van was ahead and he was pulling out quite fast. He caused damage to the right rear side of my car, guess I just contact insurance and hand them the video?

Contact the local area command and report a hit and run.

This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable.

    • +8

Yep … do precisely this as your first move. With a touch of luck you can get d1ckhead off the road for a while.

    • +8

      This.

      Lodge a police report.

This kind of behavior is unacceptable under any circumstances.

Your insurance is likely to want a police report number anyway.

    • +6

+1, won't be long before he pleads to a magistrate - sob sob "i need mah driver's licence to earn a living!" plz go easy on me

  • +2

Call police get a police report and insurance to lodge a not at fault claim.

So he knew he hit your rear side and run away?

  • Did he hit you when he was first pulling out.. or when he pulled infront the second time?

    • He caused damage to the right rear side of my car

      • +1

Can't believe he continued his rampage rather than then turning the other way, especially considering he was already half way in the opposite lane.

  • +4

    Gotta love modern dash-cams
    Bye Mr 1NB3PP :)

Though you need to change the date setting in yours lol

    • It may be because it use battery not cap, it reset too often.

I can't see clearly the number plate

      • I can't see clearly the number plate

You pause at the right moment, you definitely can

      • +4

I can't see clearly the number plate

        Here is the number plate

      • +1

I can't see clearly the number plate

        You don't need to when Spack's around.😂

    • +1

I didn't downvote you, and would generally agree, but there's gotta be something somewhere that says you're not allowed to cut across 2 lanes of traffic perpendicular when merging… Pretty sure that's the case in the UK anyway.

    • +4

Nah. This guy was already raging at the grey x-trail driver waving his arm out the window and using short words.

    • +10

Ute driver couldn't even make eye contact and went out blindly. Traffic was already moving. Typical tradie arrogance and illegal driving.

      • +2

yep, just another dipshit in a hilux.

        • +2

This was 06:30 in the morning. Imagine the amount of rage on the way home at 17:00 after a day of work.

          • +1

@whooah1979: I've seen it first hand many, many times on the M1 in Melbourne. I swear half the tradies in Melbourne seem to live and commute home to Pakenham.

    • +2

courtesy to a dckhead is courtesy misplaced

      • +2

yeah.. look where this ended up.

He caused damage to the right rear side of my car,

        • Yeah, unfortunately d1ckheadz need it more than others.

        • +1

And who is probably going to end up in court because of this?

Ute driver simply had no business pulling out like that, while old mate in front of x-trail was nice enough to make room, in no way should OP be expected to leave enough room for him to get through, especially given the speed of events. Not to mention that the arm wave could be interpreted as him telling OP to move up.

The expectation of courtesy while driving is the most backwards thing. It's something that should be nice to have, not a requirement like people and this ute driver seem to expect.

          • +3

@GUYANDSON: He didn't even 'pull out', he pretty much barged out as if he had right of way. Then it looks like he travelled down the third lane of a 2 lane road (almost into oncoming traffic), cut in front of you with no indicator and then changed lanes to turn left anyway. His licence should be straight in the bin.

    • No, you should not.

    • +1

      Courtesy extends both ways.

Where was the Ute driver's courtesy when he did a runner after hitting the OPs car?

  • +1

The other driver broke the law by crossing a continuous white line to change lanes

  • +5

Wait. This clip was time stamped in 2015.

    Troll?

  • +4

No doubt that ute driver is a dick.

People do stupid shit on the roads all the time and sometimes I just give way to prevent possible damage to my car regardless of who's fault it would be in the end.

In this case, I probably would've let him out the first time he tried to pull behind the red van. I'd rather not have him behind me.

  • +1

I don’t understand why the driver comes out into the second lane, when he ends up turning left anyway.

    • +2

It looks like he was trying to turn right out of the Red Rooter - but then decided to go on a rampage and chase OP down instead.

      • +1

        Red Rooter

        😮

        • How does Trump fit into this?

  • +5

This is a troll post. My reasons are as follows:

    a) New member, 2 days fresh.
    b) video footage uploaded as "funny road video", I am pretty sure if you are at the stage of not having even contacted your insurer you would not be finding it 'funny'
    c) time stamp 2015 (as highlighted above)
    d) damage cited as right rear, however the ute initially pulled out on the left, and then cut the car off on the right front. I am not sure at what stage the right rear came into contact
    e) No responses from OP

Despite this, the driver is still a d&ckhead.

    • I don't disagree, but without MS Paint diagram hard to be sure.

      C) It's not 2015. Right at the end of the video you can make out the Bunnings sign (Top left hand corner).
      In 2015 that was a Master's store.

      E) OP is in the Penalty Box.

Is the Red Rooster deal current - it's a bacon and something?

    • Spot on.
      OP making a false claim
And no evidence on the video of any accident or impact

  • +3

How do you not see him pulling out from the left?!

    • +2

A little bit of patience goes a long way. Very heavy traffic, hard for him to get out. Be polite and let him in and I daresay nothing would have happened.

      • Sorry but this ute driver appears to be very unpredictable!

  • Guess I just contact insurance and hand them the video?

You couldnt figure out on your own what to do after this incident occured? report it to police and insurance didnt occur to you before posting here? Did you post for sympathy or you couldnt figure out the next steps?

Irrespective of the law you could have just given him way. The guy was already committed. Now you post up his petty crime on the internet to be hated on by randoms.

    • Think of it as a PSA.

  • Is this in Warrigal Road QLD?

    • Vic.

    • +1

Centre Rd, Bentleigh East (nearly bordering Oakleigh South), heading east. I drive this intersection every work day on the way home. So many people run wide to turn right onto Centre Rd. Seen so many close call accidents with oncoming traffic from the intersection ahead.

Call Oakleigh Police. They're probably closest to the incident scene.

  • +3

OP is in the penalty box.

  • Why contact us

  • Good luck with that one.

Its pretty obvious the truck barging in from the right come over unbroken lines and was on the wrong side of the road.
However there is absolutely no evidence of any collision or damage to your vehicle in that video Im afraid

    • The video doesn't have to show a collision. The driver may visit a LAC and report a hit and run based on their own account of the event. The officer may then have examine the driver's vehicle to confirm their side of the story.

      • Good luck with that obne.
Unless there is an injury police dont get involved.
The video proves nothing and insurance company wont be conducting an investigation either based on this video

  • Since the OP is using a ghost account and no longer wishes to comment, thread closed.
