  • It does not say B28 on the listing.
The Xiaommi website says yes and also it has a dedicated sd card slot so 2 sims and an SD card as well

    • Not unusual for retailer to be slap happy with their listings. Best to ask them.
This Indian site shows specs that include B28 700mhz… but even reviews can be very wrong as well.
      https://www.gadgetsnow.com/mobile-phones/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-8…

Is there an Indian verision? What is the Mi model number?

      • The Indian version has the triple card slot not sure about B28

        • According to the Mi Global site the 8T has triple also?? (Link in description)
          Supports 2+1 card slot, nano-SIM + nano-SIM + microSD
Supports dual SIM VoLTE HD calling

  • Umidigi Power 3

Save yourself the trouble, it's a better phone anyway, I would say.

Also cheaper at around $250 AUD or less delivered.

      Umidigi vs Xiaomi build quality?
The 8T appears to have a 3 slot sim tray where the Umidigi has a 2 slot hybrid one.
      Umidigi has MediaTek Helio P60 MT6771, 64-Bit Processor… :-(

Much less custom ROM development due to Mediatek not meeting their obligations under the GPL. Means that when a third-rate phone manufacturer inevitably abandons updating their phone, you're less likely to find a custom ROM to replace it.

@Nightshade: Stock Android 10… What more do you need?

Who's bothering with third party ROMs these days…
            Enthusiasts maybe.

Umidigi are a good company, a small one, but they're doing things the right way.

I have a power 3 on order, in the past I've bought a few A5 pro's as gifts for some family members. They've had a few OTA updates, no complaints. Good quality and good value.

@Oofy Doofy: GCam. Umidigi Camera app is crap and unlike Xiaomi there aren't enough of a following to port GCam for Mediatek SoC. The Note 8 Pro is one of the rare one with Mediatek SoC that receives a GCam port but it still doesn't work well enough.

Another thing is Umidigi is bad at OS Update. They have NEVER update their phone OS. Sure you get Stock Android 10, but next year the Redmi get Android 11 while you will stuck at 10. Xiaomi generally give at least 2 OS update nowadays.

              • @Bigboomboom: Gcam isn't even all that great, it helps to some degree, but it's no miracle camera optimiser.

Third party apps provide more control and work pretty well anyway.

When was the last time you used a Umidigi phone? Umidigi play, F1 play, power, A5 pro? I have, they all do a pretty good job with OpenCamera or Snapcam apps.

It will be interesting to try the new camera setup in the power 3 when I get ahold of it.

@Oofy Doofy: GCam app is a miracle point and shoot camera optimiser, hence why it's incredibly popular. Sure you can spend time to manually adjust parameters to take a photo, then process it using lightroom but that's in no way point and shoot. GCam does everything you need to do manually VERY well, and 90% of people only need that. I have tried all popular 3rd party camera app and none of them come close to what GCam does.

Sure, they do a decent job. Meanwhile GCam does an excellent job for price of NONE. And best of all Google continue to develop it while they still make Pixel phones.

                  • @Bigboomboom: I have gcam loaded on two old Zuk Z2's running Android 10, I don't think it's all that amazing. Cool for zoomed image smoothness/clarity, nice to be able to select HLG for HDR with video. Other than that I don't see anything special going on.

                    • @Oofy Doofy: Apart from getting cheapo phones camera image quality to compete with high end? Sure, if you don't think that's anything special might as well use whatever you prefer. Majority of phone camera image quality right now comes from image processing software and that's GCam strong point. Night mode, Portrait mode, Astrophotography, HDR+ Enhanced all on a $265 phone, that can matches iPhone 11 $1,200? Sure, it's nothing special.

                      • @Bigboomboom: Where is the evidence for this? And for what phones specifically?

                        • @Oofy Doofy: Just do a YouTube of Xiaomi Note 8 (non T) which is identical except no NFC and Band 28. Apart from missing Optical Zoom it's pretty comparable to iPhone 11. Sure, video recording is behind but GCam processing and Night Sight is still comparable to iPhone 11 and better than Xs as Xs did not have night sight.

                          https://youtu.be/0czcsh-Wcwk
Mind blowing what you get for $900 less.

Great thing about these 48MP sensor is that they come in cheap phones. All it needs is good photo processing software which GCam does. Sensor size wise it's bigger than both Pixel 4 and iPhone 11, so it's not hardware that makes cheap phones take cheap photo.

I have Pocophone F1 with GCam and it consistently takes good photo, almost comparable to my Pixel 2. That is because they have almost same hardware, just Pixel 2 GCam is native and Google does a better job of optimising the app comparing to porting, e.g I get slightly better exposure on Pixel 2. There's still some more to squeeze out of these GCam port but not sure if anyone going to go that far.

                          • @Bigboomboom: Interesting. Specific phones I see. Not much improvement on my Zuk Z2's, but it is noticeable enough to be happy with the improvements over stock.

                            • @Oofy Doofy: Yes, because you still need to tweak the Apps for specific smartphone camera hardware. The comparison I gave for my Pocophone F1 and Pixel 2 is because they have almost identical hardware (sensor, lens etc.) and even similar SoC (SD 845 on F1 vs 835 on Pixel 2). The Pixel 2 still takes slightly better photos as it's Google's tweak vs modder's tweak on the F1. If you can find a real port for your Z2 it would turn out much better. My guess is it's a generic GCam apk rather than specific port.

                              For example
                              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA2_XOlt0i4

On the Note 8 Pro the GCam does better colour & contrast but losing details, as it wasn't programmed to take into considering the huge amount of Pixel on the Note 8 Pro camera (64MP -> 16MP pixel binning).

                              • @Bigboomboom: I'm using an actual gcam port for the Zuk Z2, which is supplied by the PixelExperience Rom for them.

    • Where did you buy this from, and how long is the delivery time?

      • AliExpress. Only released recently.
