eBay Reserve Pricing

Hi,

For people here who sell stuff on ebay occasionally, what do you do if the item you are selling is going to sell way below what you ideally wanted?

I see eBay have removed the option for reserve pricing(it was there years ago, I am sure of it).

If I decide to cancel a listing 12 hours before it ends with bids, is there any consequences? Obviously I am not going to sell something for an extremely low price.

Thanks,

Then set a starting price for that you want to, at a minimum, sell it for…

    Pretty simple

    • Somewhat, having a .99 starting bid price seems to really get people bidding away to a better high price rather than one person just bidding on your minimum.

      But thank you for help.

Clearly not in the case you're asking about

Either 99c listing and roll the dice, or set a starting price

Cancelling an auction before it ends because it hasn't reached the price you want, and you started it at 99c, is a bit of a d##k move..

        • Yeah I suppose it is but I rather keep the item than sell it for some ridiculous price which sometimes happens.

I'll just set it to a BIN to be safe.

  • Just withdraw it from sale. No consequences.

Realist it with a reserve price as your starting price. But remember to be realistic.

  • it was there years ago

    decades ago

what do you do if the item you are selling is going to sell way below what you ideally wanted?

List it at 'around' the price you want and see what happens or list it as BIN.

You could also cancel the auction as well, if you must. Make sure you are aware of the rules around that and remember a lot of people don't bid until the last min.

Plus you don't really need to sell it if it sells low, just cancel the 'order' ;)

  • Depends if your item has a lot of interest (clicks, watchers) I've had times where my item didn't have any bids but in the last minute alone there were 3 or 4 unique bidders.

      Probably people using gixen…

  • Just make it a fixed price sale

  • As others have stated, set the starting bid as your minimum you are happy to accept for the item, list as a buy it now or cancel before it hits 12 hours left. I agree with others that a lot of the bids actually come from the last few minutes/seconds so you could be missing out on a lot of potential bids.

Here is what ebay says about it, disregard the reserve stuff as it doesn't apply to eBay Aus.

    Cancelling a listing

You can end your auction listing early, if:

There are no bids yet on your item
There are bids on your item, and you are willing to sell your item to the current highest bidder
There are bids on your item and you don't want to sell it to the highest bidder, but there are 12 or more hours left in the listing. In this situation, you'll need to cancel all active bids before you can end your listing. We charge a fee for ending a listing in this way

You can't end your auction listing early, if:

There are fewer than 12 hours left in the listing, you've received bids, and you don't want to sell it to the highest bidder
There are fewer than 12 hours left in the listing, you've received bids, but the item's reserve price hasn't been met yet
